Time to sell my R2s.
I really like this show and look forward to the upgrade version. Thanks for the news, Silverstar.

You mean time to sell the R2s and wait for the Blu-ray or HD-DVD version to come out ^^. I doubt I'd get the R2 DVDs of Aika as I'm happy enough with the R1s (it's not that good a show IMO), so it would take something like HD to entice me to get it.
I do like how the list of shows being given HD masters is just increasing. When they finally start releasing stuff there should be quite a bit of backlog that can be dumped to disc without time consuming remasters holding things up.

Is the Special Trial included on the R1 release? I don't remember.

I think the R1 release included Special Trial (but I didn't buy the R1 myself).

While looking for updates at the official site, I found a pink heading advertising the "AIKa R-16: Virgin Mission" OVA to be released next year (or so it seems, as I can't read in Japanese).
New animation to promote the remastered show which will be 10 years old soon. It's a good strategy. Hopefully it will remain as close as possible to the original, retaining the elements that made me an AIKa fan in the first place.
Just to confirm, the boxset will include the Special Trial. It's stated on both the official site (http://www.aika-sumeragi.jp/boxinfo.html) and CD Japan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCBA-2774).

They did? Well crap. I would love for AIKa REMASTERED to be released in the States, but if CPM lost the rights, if someone else picks it up ... will they re-dub it or somehow get a hold of the old CPM dub track. Actually the only character that seriously needs re-dubbing is GUST, I don't know what the hell Alvaro J. Gonzalez was thinking when he did that voice.
I also hope the new OVA is picked up as well, at the very least. Maybe ADV will grab it seeing how they like all these fanservice shows like Najica.

No one needs to license it, they revert right back to Bandai Visual if I'm correct. I also believe that BV would redub it because that's what they did with the Patlabor movies. Gunbuster didn't get a dub only becuase sepparate sound tracks for the music and sfx weren't available. So basically, it's a pretty likely win, win situation. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
