View Full Version : Sister Princess ~Repure~ Questions

I finally got to watch this a couple of months ago and none of my research has been able to answer my questions so perhaps someone on here can. Maybe these questions were answered in the manga but since I can't seem to find that either...
1. Why did Wataru and his sisters leave Promised Island?
2. On that note, why did they all move into seperate houses?
3. What happened to Mami and her brother? (She's only in the series for 3 seconds)
Were these questions ever answered or was it just one of those 'look the other way and pretend it makes sense' moments?

Not exactly. The Sister Princess anime was not popular with many fans in Japan due to it's rather uncharacteristic nature involving all the characters - i.e. it didn't really reflect how they were represented in the game. (Similar in some aspects to To Heart or specifically To Heart: Remember my Memories anime)
To change this, the Repure anime is set differently (I compare it to an alternate universe in a weird way) follows the game style a lot more in terms of characterisation, other characters (such as Aria's maid) and also in the fact they NEVER mention the name of the brother, as Wataru in the SP anime was never given a name in the game, and was simply known by whichever 'brother-ism' the girls called him.
In the game, the girls, whilst knowing each other, did live seperately from each other and their brother, hence why the Repure anime does this as well.
Because of this, characters such as Mami and Yamada who weren't in the game were not necessary to use in RePure, however as Mami was quite popular of the fans of the SP anime, she did get a little cameo just as an in-joke so to speak.
Personally though, I liked the original more - Repure seemed more creepy and my favourite character (Haruka) didn't get an episode to herself which hit a sore spot, and the brother wasn't so perfect in the original and made for more entertainment IMO.

I completely agree. The main problem I had with Repure was the lack of humor. The original SP wasn't a laugh riot but it had a good sense of humor and a light hearted atmosphere. Repure, like a lot of dating sims, takes itself WAY too seriously.

This sounds like the worst anime ever made.

Speaking of the whole creepy aspect. I only need to point to Sakuya's character story. By that I mean anyone creeped out by the original series will surely be creeped out by that. Heck speaking of Haruka being shafted. In general that was one of the problems with Repure the character focus was highly unblanced. I mean Kaho gets like three episodes to herself. I like her yeah, but one of those episodes could have been for Haruka.

It's in the running if you ask me, but every show has it's fans.

I really enjoyed the original series and I wanted to read the manga and play the games but sadly that's not possible for me right now.
Anyways, thanks for clearing all that up for me.

There was absolutely no reason to include the episode about Kaho worrying about her weight. I mean what is she--70 pounds? /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

I have no idea what her weight is, but my thought is they were going for one of those "skinny girl is overreacting about her weight" episodes. Still regardless I do feel it was quite wasteful. It could have been better spent on something else. Even if the episode must have still focused on Kaho there are other things they could have done with her. Plus "I weight too much" plots aren't the type of plots that can carry an episode not even a half episode.
That's another thing each episode of Repure was a half episode except for the final 13th episode. So it was equal to about 7 regular sized anime episodes roughly. Okay maybe a bit more or less. I'm too lazy to check the run time of each episode minus the character story. Thus another reason they should have been more balanced and better focused.

I don't know, I thought episode 9 of Ichigo Mashimaro was quite amusing /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I was surprised to see a thread about this series.
Sister Princess RePure is basically a retelling of the series that are meant to conform more to the original stories that were in G's Magazine. By the way, you notice that no one ever calls him Wataru, all of them including him live in separate houses and the way that the girls talk in RePure is as if he's grown up all this time with each of them, whereas in the 1st series, the girls never met him until he first came to Promised Island.
It does suck that Mami and Yamada weren't in RePure except for cameos, as they are fun characters and actually there were a good number of fans for Mami from what I've heard.
I noticed that too with Haruka getting shafted. Some of the girls got more than one episode and Haruka really doesn't get any focused episodes for herself except for the individual sister stories, but that is something aside from the main story.
I actually liked the original Sister Princess story than RePure, though I wouldn't mind if RePure were brought over. The 1st season is really meant to be just forget about everything else and enjoy the ride, which is why I like it.
The reason this series is one of my favorites is because it's meant to be fun, not having to rely on heavy drama, the variety of characters that cover different types and personalities, and the character designs are cute and at times have a great presentation to them (look at the G's Magazine stories especially). For some reason, not only the designs but the personalities of Sakuya, Haruka, Karen, and Kaho really appealed to me.

Yeah I wondered about that too. Now it makes much more sense for everyone to have all these memories from childhood.
