Has anybody seen this NEW series from Japan? It has only 6 DVD's out as of last month! Here are a couple of URL's to describe it! I have seen Episodes 1-5 and it is a GREAT NEW series! I will Not spoil it for everybody, but you have to see it!

The general consensus around here seems to be that it's inferior to the original, but I'm of a different opinion after having seen all 6 episodes. Especially the ending really surprized me, and tied it together nicely to the original. The animation and music was spectacular. It should also be noted that I really liked the original a lot as well.

Not exactly "new" I would say... but I agree. Gunbuster2 really was a great series. I think you should watch the original Gunbuster first though, to understand the meaning behind the ending. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I knew there was a reason why I didn't get into it.

I was only able to barely sit through 3 eps of Gunbuster 2. I found absolutely nothing in it to make me keep going.

I would say it's "Mahoromatic meet FLCL" but inferior to both.

Even the fanservice was bad /images/graemlins/happy.gif

A very good reason to be extremly woried about what Gainax have in stock for Rebuild of Evangelion /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

Wow it's THAT bad? /images/graemlins/depresse.gif I was about to start collecting the R2 DVDs very soon cause I really wanted to see it as I love the first series. I didn't expect anything near the quality of the first Gunbuster as the art of the OAV died in the early 90's (especially for original stuff) IMHO as the studios passed over expensive OAVs for cheaply made late night shows from around '96 onwards. Anyway, the cover art didn't make it look anything like the quality of the original to me but after reading these thoughts I think I will pass on the R2s unless I can get them off yahoo really cheaply. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

Well that's my personal opinion /images/graemlins/wink.gif others might tell you that it rules, that episode 5 and 6 are the best thing since the invention of Gainax Bounce, etc...

But for me the first episode are rather bland of boring (I could even say annoying) and the later ones, while they try to introduce some more "serious"(everything is relative) stuffs, fail to be anymore interesting.

In short, in Gunbuster they managed to find the correct dosage of drama, fanservice and sillyness while in it's "sequell" they went too "over the top" (No bab puns with the title intended /images/graemlins/wink.gif ) at the begining and too cliché for the rest. (Once again IMHO)

I've seen the episodes and I think it was quite entertaining. It's not like it's completely awesome groundbreaking new and fantastic, but there's far worse out there. Than again I haven't watched the original series, so I can't say it's better or worse.

The fanservice was okay IMO: at least it wasn't the cliché type of fanservice where you see some girl blushing because her panties are showing. /images/graemlins/relief.gif Just some "functional" nudity her and there, because there's no time to bother about that when you're in a hurry.

Also while it didn't cause me to sit on the edge of my seat, I certainly don't think Die Buster was boring. It get's better after a few episodes though. Nice OP music too.

You can buy it cheap(er) as R3 releases. I've not gone for it yet.

The FLCL style character designs are cute, but after the serious 1st series & Mikimito designs, the new look seems goofy by comparison.

I'll get it if BV do a R1 release.

You mean when they do an R1 release. Other studios have pretty much confirmed through some comments that whoever had the first series had the second one - before BV showed their cards.

Bah, what a bunch of naysayers. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

I thoroughly enjoyed the series from beginning to end. Sure the first episode had me thinking FLCL more than Gunbuster but it ended after that.

The visuals were spectacular, the animation was fluid, and the music was strong/appropriate. I wish they made better use of the secondary characters but limited to six thirty minute episodes one can only do so much. The opening song "Groovin' Magic" is catchy and how can you not root for Nono to succeed?

In reguards to the fanservice, remember there's more to it than just breasts & panties.

Admit it, by any other name this series would be reguarded in a much different light.

I second that! I'm not sure if R2 is worth it though, since they are not really packed with extras or anything, but the series was a lot better than what some people make out to be. If you liked Mahoromatic, FLCL, and Gunbuster1 (or any Gainax anime), you really won't regret watching this.
