I'm very confused as to the accuracy of this license. Over on the Anime News Network forum, someone asked if there are any plans on releasing uncut DVDs (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=327583#327583) of Bobobo-bobo-bobo. I responded to the poster there that Viz Media has the license to the Bobobo anime as mentioned on the Unrelease License list (http://www.animeondvd.com/licenselist/unreleased.php), but haven't announced any plans for uncut DVDs at this time. However, one of the ANN regulars told me that Viz does not have the license for the anime, only for the manga. The user there said that Viz never mentioned at Comic Con that they have the license. I know that Toei themselves brought Bobobo to the U.S. for television broadcast, but I'm wondering if this bit of information about Viz Media obtaining the Bobobo anime license is true of not. Thanks. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

The bit about ViZ Media owning the Boubobo license is false. Somehow some places thought ViZ Media was holding the license, but they've said they don't. (Forget where this was stated.)

They stated this at Anime Expo. I forget how they worded it, but basically the show airing on TV is through Cartoon Network and Toei directly.

If I recall, it was done via the ShoPro arm that eventually was folded into Viz Media itself. That said, it was a broadcast only deal from my recollection, but that does mean that the show is licensed for the US even if no home video version is released.

Yeah, there's not a day that goes by that I don't hope strongly for an uncut, good R1 quality release for Bo^7. It deserves it every bit as much as Excel Saga did and got a bum deal from the dub run muddying the waters.
