View Full Version : Any one else want ADV to give Hokuto No Ken the Macross/gatchaman treatment?

Since they got the OVA I guess they could get the TV Series.
Really the only option I have to see the whole Series are poorly subbed bootleg DVDs or the poorly Done Manga DVDs.
Given the popularity of Fighting Anime I think they could air it as a classic on Adult swim or something.
Am I the only that wants it?

I wouldn't mind it, but there are a whole lot of series I would love to get the Gatchaman/Macross treatment before FotNS

I wouldn't mind it, but lets see if ADV will do the rest of Gatchaman before we ask them to look at othe things.

Rose of Versailles and Space Adventure Cobra come to mind first.... but I'd like to see Fist get proper treatment as well, at least like the City Hunter boxes if English production costs are too great.

Never heard of it. >_>
I wouldn't mind if they gave that treatment to KOR though!

I wouldn't mind. I actually got New Fist of the North Star from Rightstuf and I watched the first two episodes today... really, really good stuff. Surprisingly good actually. I'm guessing that the storyline isn't a driving force in the TV series which is disappointing after the OVA, but still... ultraviolence and stupid 80's hairstyles = win.

So NFotnS is pretty good then? I was gonna ask for some recommendations on it but as I loved the original movie, I think I'll enjoy this.
"ultraviolence and stupid 80's hairstyles = win" is exactly true, plus I can refamiliarise myself with the characters etc in time for the upcoming PS2 port of the arcade game /images/graemlins/happy.gif
Anyone seen the live-action movie? /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

As much as I enjoy some classics, to be honest I don't think I'd buy FotNS. It's watchable for like 10 episodes but when you see the same recycled animation of generic bad guys' heads exploding for the nth time it kind of becomes, well... I don't know, boring?
I wouldn't mind it but I'd much rather see any of the Matsumoto shows, Touch or Ashita no Joe (though it would be cool if AnJ was remastered to the level of AnJ2 before it was licensed.)

Yeah, New FOTNS is infinitely better than the movie.

Really? I need to buy it ASAP then.
To answer the question - I'd much rather see series like Captain Harlock, Devilman, Galaxy Express 999 if we're reviving classic shows. Fist just doesn't have the reputation to suggest its worth viewing more than a couple of episodes (ie its supposed to be crap...).

Fist of the North Star is absolute classic from the 80's. It may not have many fans stateside but it's legacy in Japan is undeniable. It's probably seiyuu actor Kamiya Akira's most reknown role.
I'd love to see ADV give Fist of the North Star the 1st class treatment it deserves. I still fume at the way Manga mishandled the TV series. But it's never going to happen. It's too old and I don't think there are enough fans of it to justify such a release.

You know who's a huge FOTNS fan.......John Cena
That's going to get some people interested......or disinterested.
None the less next ADV Panel I goto at an Anime Con I'll ask if they'd do it.

The audience for Hokuto no Ken is the US is so low, subtitled-only boxsets would be the only answer. I cannot foresee 26+ single releases of the series.

LOL at the bad rep HnK gets from so many people(some of which I think may have never actually seen the show to personally judge and are just riding the Hate Train). It really is a high quality show despite budget issues, retconning, and whatnot. People that just see it as some exploding heads have REALLY missed much of the big picture IMO...the show is just about the biggest allegory I've ever seen anime wise. It is like saying Monster is just "random ole' Japanese man" Dr. Tenma running around Europe having an adventure.
It needs a proper release...though I would like it to keep the VA's that Manga used since Shin's was awesome and Kenshiro's earned his chops in the last parts of the Jagi fight it it would be dual language. It is one of many, many classic shows that need VOTOMizing, Gatchaman'd, GALS! 2'ferd, GPX'ering, etc.

I always liked FOTNS and I'd buy it if it was ever given a proper, full release in R1. I have the Manga released discs, which are a mixed bag at best, and wouldn't mind replacing them. I'd take either a Super Gals 2 subtitled box release or a Macross/Gatchaman-style one.

Owning the published volumes of the Master Edition manga as I do, and having seen those 36 episodes of the series a number of times, I for one would like to see how the rest of the story plays out, so my vote goes for a series of thinpacked boxes that cover the show.

You give up and buy the Japanese DVDs.
Or you write ADV a letter every day promising to buy as many copies of Hokuto as it takes.

E-Mail the fuck out of ADV. Or contact DLW and tell him that you hit the hidden vital point Gakuchu and only you know how to save him. Petitions don't work, force does.
...if I really wanted it though, I'd prolly break down and buy the R2's... I mean, the story can't be that difficult to figure out, can it?

Heartily seconded... Although the fights do get a tad repetitive (but hey - what Super-Robo show can't say the same either??) it's a suprisingly interesting religious allegory with some genuinely powerful relationships building up between characters underneath the bloodshed... Ken's journey from a worn-out vagabond who's almost lost his confidence in his abilities and will to fight, to the powerful but lonely "saviour" this world needs is beautifully done (though not a patch on the manga, IMHO...) A man who is changed by those he meets along the way (both friend and foe) and changes those he meets, usually for the best. Even the "Bad guys" have their issues, and not everything is clear cut.
It's Mad Max on steriods with a hefty does of biblical allegory (it could easily open with the words "there were giants on the earth in those days... <g>) and more than a little eastern mysticism. Wild, violent, but with an incredible anmount of "heart"... (If the courage in one scene shown by a 10 year old little girl that shames an entire town who'd accept slavery to death doesn't move you - well, "you're already dead"... ;-P)
Well worth a look from anyone who likes to be made to think a little... ;-)
...Though my attempts to persuade my b/f of this are usually ruined by him walking in whenever I watch it just as yet another bevy of exploding heads takes centre stage... <sigh>

It's funny because the only reason I got the GM series was for the Alex Ross art cover and box until I started to watch it. If ADV does get the FOTNS I hope AR does the covers for them as well
