Think this will ever get picked up?

I bought the paperbacks from amazon a while back but I just cant get into reading it... the names are hard to get around.

Anyway does anyone think the anime will get picked up by someone?

If so how should it be handled? Use the JP version of the names or go with the Original Chinese version of the names in the dub, if one is made.

Family name 1st with dub and subs or go western style?

I recalled playing the video game on the PS and took a 2nd look when Ikki was released.

I know the animation isnt all that great using today's standards, but I'd still love to see this brought out.

That's a tough one; considering how old the show is I doubt anyone would want to release it over here because the market would be very small. That being said, as someone who's a fan of the original work (the novels), all I can say is: give them another chance! Three Kingdoms is easily one of the best works of literature in world history, and it'd be a real shame to not be able to enjoy it in its original (well, close to it) format.

Plus, watching movies or anime based on it is like watching/reading an abridged edition of a really great work.

Edit: Forgot to mention this, but when I first started reading Three Kingdoms (and Chinese literature in general) I too found the names to be *very* difficult to pronounce or remember. However I'm currently taking an introductory Chinese course this semester at school, so the names aren't nearly as difficult anymore. Now the big problem is trying to figure out what tones they use, because none of the existing translations use Pinyin. /images/graemlins/sad.gif Kinda hard to discuss the novel w/ my Chinese teacher when he doesn't understand half of the names I'm saying.

I am always surprised that anime studios don't make more dramatic versions of classic stories: 3 Kingdoms, Journey to the West, Musashi, Before the Dawn, The Tale of Genji, the tale of the Heikei--one could really go on and on listing works that could be the basis of some really splendid anime treatments. There have been umpteen billion live action dramas based on 3 Kingdoms--the Chinese must produce a new one about every five years, I think--and several manhua adaptations. But only the one, older anime series with its very limited technical qualities. Otherwise, I can only think of Genji and the Hakkenden that got any anime at all, both of them not doing justice to the wealth of the original source material. Oh well.

Don't forget Dragon Ball and Saiyuki. /images/graemlins/wink.gif But you're right, considering how many great works there are out there, it's surprising that we haven't seen some sort of adaptation of "Water Margin" or even "Creation of the Gods." Both of those could be made into just about any kind of anime.

Isn't "Suikoden Demon Century" loosely based on "Water Margin"? Not seen it myself, and I don't think it's a very big connection, but still...
