Yes it ROOTS starts when... <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>...Haseo begin playing the game for the first time and gets PK'ed, just before he meet Ovan and Shino</span>

And it ends after... <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>...Haseo decided to become a PKK</span>

The intro of the game explains PLENTY (Haseo starting out and his first experience in The World, and then becoming a PKK) to play.
