One of the titles I bought from the Geneon sale at Right Stuf was Texhnolyze. I'm really looking forward to watching it, but I have a question.

In the past I have watched my anime DVD's on a small TV screen in my room, but recently we've gotten a high definition widescreen television for the family room and I've watched and enjoyed all of my anime on that TV since then. I don't want to go back to the small screen, but there's one advantage that the screen in my room has. I can watch the more inappropriate stuff that my family members don't want to see when they walk through to the kitchen to get a drink at night. I don't ever watch hentai or anything, but it's an advantage for shows like Berserk and such that are very messed up.

So I've heard Texhnolyze is a messed up anime. My family members move in and out of the family room toward the kitchen and back to their rooms when I'm watching anime on the TV. Should I be worried about watching Texhnolyze on that screen like I would be with Berserk, Gantz, and Elfen Lied? I've watched Gankutsuou and Ghost in the Shell in their entirety with no problems, but is Texhnolyze safe?

Well, I sure wouldn't watch Texhnolyze in front of my folks. It's fairly violent, and there is sexual content as well.

I don't recall rivers of blood so, if memory hasn't failed me, I'd say it was roughly on par with GitS on average in terms of graphic images. You might want to watch the very first episode in private, however, considering some of the material that starts the story rolling. Things calm down a bit after that but the final disk probably has the worst ick factor (violence and some nigtmarish imagery) so be prepared to eject that one.

Texhnolyze does not come close to the amount of blood and sex that Berserk, Gantz, and Elfen Lied have. Its violence level can be compared to Ghost in the Shell but with more blood involved.
