With the launch of the Wii two weeks away, I figured people would find this bit of information useful.
Target Wii launch quantities:
http://wickedsick.org/wii_finder/
I've read more than a few accounts of people who work at Target confirming the list is accurate with their store, but at the moment the list is *tentative*.
Who is going to be picking up a Wii at launch? Reserved or not? Camping out or just showing up at a store at opening? What games and accessories will you be getting?
Anyone have any similar stock information for other stores?

I plan on picking up a Wii on launch day at a local Target, which supposedly is getting 210 Wii's. (If not 210, the average for Target stores around me is ~60) I'll probably show up 30 minutes to an hour early, as I'm not too concerned about the chances of getting a Wii. (many other stores out there)
At the moment I only have plans to pick up a Wii, Zelda, Red Steel, and an extra controller. I'm considering the classic controller and a third game, as Target has a deal where if you buy three games, you get a $20 giftcard. (Figure split up the order and get the classic controller for free)
Anyone have any information on the component cables for the Wii? Where to buy them?

I want a Wii and missed the EB preorder (did get the PS3 tho). I'm not sure what my plans will really be though since excessive standing/camping is just not possible.

we talked about this in the main Gaming thread but, i hope to pick up a Wii at Launch at my local Futureshop. as it is released on a Sunday, the store near my house will open at 8am so, i'll probably try to get there a little earlier
Futureshop did not accept preorders for the Wii, or at least that is what the guy told me. He said there will be enough Wii's for those that want one, tho i am not so sure. Anyway, I will try my luck on the 19th, hopefully i get one. If not, a friend has two preorders at EB and said he'll give the 2nd one to me if Futureshop runs out of stock
the PS3 i'll wait for, not due to price but, due to initial Launch problems. i'm anticipating at least 1 or 2 problems that Sony will hammer out for subsequent runs

I'm trying to figure out what else to get along with the console. Zelda looks like a no-brainer. I'm also leaning towards Trauma Center and Elebits. But since I haven't preordered any games, I might be playing a lot of Wii Sports if there's a big run on them.

I would be getting Elebits, but I heard it got delayed till December 12. (If not I'll be getting it on launch day)

So no one is discussing strapping one to a booster rocket? Or at the very least, a boat?

Preordered and pre-paid my Wii two weeks ago. I plan on giving it as a Christmas present to my little brother.
As for me, I plan on playing it as soon as I'm done with my PS3 in Christmas time (which I also preordered baby! /images/graemlins/cool.gif )
Enhance the Trance,

I want one, but since I recently spent $225 on a Pop'N DASC, so prospects for a Wii aren't looking good till Spring. Unless, of course I start working more then one day a week, but then I wouldn't have any time to play the damn thing! /images/graemlins/relief1.gif If I wasn't such a rythm game whore, I'd get it.

I thought I read somewhere that the S-video and component cables will only be available online (EBgames.com, Gamestop.com, and Nintendo's online store). I have been watching Nintendo's store, hoping they put the cables up before launch, but so far no luck. I want to order them beforehand so they will arrive on launch day.
Anyway, like I've said in the gaming thread, I'm going to just show up at a store a bit before it opens. I'm not going to pre-order or camp out over night. I don't see a need to do so.
Stuff I'm definitely going to get:
Wii + Wii Sports
1 extra Wiimote
1 extra nunchuk
Zelda Twilight Princess
Trauma Center Second Opinion
component cable (probably will have to buy online)
Maybe stuff:
Elebits
2 Classic Controllers
1 Wii Points card

I plan on getting a Wii at launch, but I'm also one of those who haven't pre-ordered. I'm not too worried about availability yet. I'll be getting Zelda, Trauma Center, and an extra controller for sure at launch. Might get one more title on launch day but haven't decided yet.

I hear that. During my lunch break, I drove down the street to the nearest EB clinging to hope that one was still available, but alas, it was for naught. I guess I can wait until the second shipment of Wii's, though I really did want to have one before the Turkey Day break. Here's to hopin'.

I sadly work the morning of November 19th, so I'm resorting to either staying in front of a Walmart on the day of the 19th (I'm calling first) for a midnight launch, online, or (if I'm lucky again like I was with the DS launch) getting one of the few remaining from either Best Buy or Target.
When it comes to online, I've been following this RSS feed (http://feeds.feedburner.com/NintendoWiiConsoleAlertsUS) using a yahoo widget that displays RSS feeds and updates every minute on my desktop. The feed updates when a site opens up Wii sales, so when this happens I can immediately just click the link and buy it. This is exactly what I did to nail a 360 during the holidays when they were so rare and hard to come by. With the launch numbers for the Wii, I should have no issue finding one.
Edit: I should correct myself, this RSS feed (http://revolutiontracker.com/rev-2.xml) updates instantly the moment a site gets a console up for order. This site I used for my 360. The other site, listed above, was the only site updating for Wii preorders for quite a while via RSS and only updates an hour after a site opens up the orders. So, if I had to choose a tracker, follow the one I list here on the bottom (since they seem to be updating now), but the top one is also worth a shot.

My mom is buying me a Wii when it comes out to replace my PSP (that I never played) that was stolen by my sister (very long story, don't ask). However no money out of my pocket for the Wii. I also preordered Zelda, Red Steel and my girlfriend preorder Marvel: Ulitmate Alliance. Oh..and an extra controler and nunchuck.
Combine that with the PS3 I'm getting (hopefully, no preorder) and I'm gonna have a very busy weekend.

Good deal. MD sales tax is cheaper than UPS shipping (what Nintendo uses) so if I can buy the cable at a store that would be nice.

Oddly enough, that's exactly what I did when I went to reserve a Wii at EB. I admit I did take an early lunch at 11:30am. They had 3 left and while I was in there a mom with an infant walked in and reserved the 2nd to last, so when I left at noon there was still 1 left.
Hopefully you'll both be able to get one before Thanksgiving.

I just gotta hope that I can swing one as a present for b-day or christmas...otherwise it could be quite awhile. I'm almost done with my christmas shopping though...so that'll help to save more closer to the time. I'd still need to get the wired internet connection adaptor though even if my parents DO manage.
Gamewise...I just dunno. Red Steel looks very tempting, as does Zelda and the like. Marvel Ultimate Alliance would be a definite though...still want to get copies of the GCN X-Men Legends games for my own to screw aroudn with. Excite Truck looks interesting as well, even though I almost never care about racers.
GAH! I hope I can get one...otherwise I'd be looking at, best case, buying no anime or anything else for about 7-8 weeks straight. That Geneon sale...and the remnants in the bargain bin....DAMN YOU /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Incidentally, where did you preorder the US Wii? I presume I already missed that by miles...
I need to get a US Wii (b/c I want progressive output and it appears likely that EU games won't support that, plus having a US one means getting games quicker anyway, and the only downside is having more trouble selling them on ebay after finishing).
But I figure I'll probably have to wait until well after launch before being able to get one from one of the relatively few reliable online stores that ships internationally.
So that is my 'launch' plan - wait until I can order a US Wii online, then order one along with Zelda & maybe Super Monkey Ball. Certainly I'm not planning to wait out in the cold at any point, but I'm also not expecting to get it in a hurry. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Import Madness. I'm actually fairly certain I'll get one despite the fact that their quantities are unknown. The reason is, as I said before, I preordered my US launch PSP there literally a week and a bit before it launched, and it was well hyped.
Same with the US launch DS. It was a couple of weeks before and I got it on time. They also are charging a sensible £150 when they could be going for quite a bit more.

I heard they might pull 20,000 from the U.S. shipment and shift it to Japan. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if they did something like that, or at least took 10,000 off the U.S. number.
In any case, you will be able to walk into a store and pick up a PS3 in the United States...so long as you're waiting in line the night or days before. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
A guy I know who works at a Circuit City store (which is next to a large shopping mall) was told they're getting 10 systems for the store (but even that number is unconfirmed and could end up being less). So I think all these people planning to buy a PS3 will have to wait or pay some exorbant cost for one.

Me, I have no preorder, I just plan to go to Nintendo World that morning (also 6am) of the 19th and pick one up when the store opens at 11:00. If they've sold out, no worries. I'm praying by them saying "... all for under $699 plus tax and handling!," means that their bundles go for no higher than $699. Because if the lowest price bundle is $699 for a Wii, I would rather spend that cash on a PS3.

Well, not every release game. But from the bundle I saw from Fry's, it was like $640 for the system and like 9 other games. Honestly though, the only reason the Wii is $250 instead of $200 is that the big box retailers said they weren't going to be making enough when it came to the till (or something like that). Otherwise I'm sure we would've seen the Wii without Wii sports for $200.

US is definitely the way to go for sensible/impatient Europeans (although JPN is also pretty much essential if you want the games that make best use of the controller. See the DS for more info). This is Nintendo we're talking about after all - I'm not expecting a repeat of the Cube, but we can expect lengthy European delays.
Just don't forget a stepdown!
As for selling US Wii games, just register at NTSC-UK (http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/) and use their sale/trade forum. Most of the members (myself included - I use the "for sale" forum quite a bit and most of the members are cool) are going for US Wii's and they're a hardcore bunch so you'll get a sale no problem.

Some Wii news:
(from a video interview with Reggie) (http://news.com.com/1606-2_3-6133432.html?part=rss&tag=2547-1_3-0-5&subj=news):
- No secret last minute announcement.
- Virtual Console list is still being finalized.
- Reggie has had a final-production Wii in his office for the last 2.5 weeks.
- Nintendo is happy with the promotion South Park has given the Wii (even though they never asked for permission).
- Reggie expects the console to be hard to find. He says not due to lack of production (he expects their numbers to hit 4 million world wide by Dec. 31st), but because of excessive demand.
(from Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/discussionboard/discussion.html/ref=cm_cd_fp_tft_tp/104-7759289-9753520?ie=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D5FVR0TDJZT9&asin=B0009 VXBAQ&cdThread=Tx3V88UKKH93KVS) )
- Preorders are still not finalized.
- Amazon will e-mail those who have signed up to their e-mail list later in the week with their finalized plans.
- No bundles!
*crosses fingers for getting one through Amazon.com!*
Has anyone heard about downloadable content for Twilight Princess? Was flipping around yesterday and G4(haha) said something about a Nintendo exec saying that with the Wii, Twilight Princess will have some type of exclusive added content or whatever. I'll be picking up the GC version, but I'd hate to have to buy the same game twice when I get a Wii.

People have complained that Nintendo has not really advertised the Wii. I don't think Nintendo needs to. Between the free promotion they're getting from the internet, South Park, and Toys R Us (it's on the Hot Toy List for this year for those who missed it) they don't need to waste money on advertising right now. They can wait until after the new year to spend advertising dollars.

I haven't played a football game since NES Play Action Football back when I had the NES Four Score, but with the new control scheme in Madden, I'm tempted to pick it up.
I agree the bundle could be better (it really isn't that bad though. Is the 12 month warranty really necessary given Nintendo's track record for replacing faulty systems? And who really cares about a Game Informer magazine subscription? If they took out those two things and threw in an extra nunchuck or retro controller along with a Wii Points card, I agree, it would've been a better bundle.

My thoughts exactly. To be honest the only game in that bundle, I'd have any interest in is Zelda: Twilight Princess. Mainly because of past good experience with Zelda. The rest I'd rather just skip or at least rent if I ever felt the urge to.
Also while the Wii is only $250. Buying any new system is a risky investment. You're taking a gamble that you'll find enjoyable games for the system based on your personal tastes. Thus the last thing you want to do is make the gamble worse by getting a bunch of random games in a single bundle.
It's far better to instead ease yourself into a new system. Thus if/when I get a Wii sometime in the (far) future, I'd much rather maybe pick up one or two games for the Wii at most around the time the system is gotten. Use those two games to get a feel for the system and then later if I'm feeling motivated expanded.

We've all come to expect huge snake like lines of gamers when the latest Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest or Playstation hits Japan, but the lure of the Wii seems to have hit early as there are reports of long queues for preorders (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155067).
I love the video! You get the otaku, the salayman, the middle aged people, the younger crowd and so on /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
So, is this a sign of an impending Wii revolution in Japan, or will there be huge US-style brawls in Japanese stores as the entire country fights one another for one of the 80,000 PS3s allocated for launch as everyone forgets about the Wii? Only time will tell...

Sadly, this will be the first Nintendo launch that I'll have to pass on since the N64 (10 years). I should be able to stroll into a store in mid-December though and buy one like I hope to. We'll see what happens.
I do have two games already abought and ordered though:
The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology
----------
Trauma Center: Second Opinion and Super Swing Golf (or Monkey Ball, going to be a hard pick methinks) will be my next purchases early next year.

Component cables are the red/green/blue trio of RCA cables. Composite cables are the red/white/yellow ones. Component cables can carry HD signals, but in the Wii's case they'll only give better video quality.

Just an update on Import Madness. I got my credit card bill in this morning and for one reason or another they've seen fit to charge me for the Wii already. Of course, they had better be guaranteeing me one (i.e. they're not) as this could be messy to sort out.
IIRC they didn't do this with my PSP or DS preorder. If it does mean I'll definitely end up with one then I don't care but like I said, if I don't this could be a problem.
As for VG+, I'd wait a while. Some of the guys at NTSC-UK know some of their employees/owners well and are reporting that once preorders open (yes, they're still waiting to start) they will be gone in a matter of minutes.

Some folks might think so, but it's actually very easy to screw up cabling. 3rd party folks tend to use cheap materials for their cables, which don't give very good end results. I used to have a 3rd party SVideo cable for the PlayStation back in the day. The video quality was better than my Sony composite cable that came with the system (as it should be), but the audio suffered a significant drop in quality compared to the system-bundled cable. I put up with that for a while, but wasn't really happy with it. Later I bought a Sony brand SVideo cable. The audio quality went back up, and the video quality also went up (fewer noise artifacts). The Sony cost more, but it was made of better materials and gave better end results.
Lesson learned: don't trust the cheap 3rd party cables.

Kotaku isn't bad. It's updated very regularly and runs some good articles but it's pretty sensationalist and will jump on the latest bandwagon (the anti-Sony sentiment of late is a good example) just because its the "in" thing to do.
And yeah, that's reviewer priveliges on getting the PS3 and Wii early. All of the review sites will get debug consoles (IGN got their Wii from an ice cream truck /images/graemlins/tongue.gif) and not final build consoles so they're missing some features, but yeah, I wouldn't be complaining if I got my hands on one.

I got a notification Fingerhut is selling them. They're still up (as of posting) but the price is $399 as opposed to $250. I'm still going to wait until after Xmas.

Component cables went on sale this morning on Nintendo's site and sold out in a matter of hours. They are now backordered untill November 28th. It appears no stores are getting them till December 5th or later. I didn't make it in time for an order....

I saw the news and I think I got them just a tad bit late (my order is currently listed as backordered). No matter, they charge $30 for the cables on Nintendo.com and I've seen the official ones listed for higher prices elsewhere, so even if they come later, at least I got them for a great price.

Well, I just got an email from Playasia asking me to confirm my Japanese Wii preorders. They're selling the US console + Zelda for $599 and the Japanese one for $399.
So, that's my JPN Wii confirmed at least /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
As for games, I confirmed the following launch titles:
Wing Island
Super Swing Golf Pangya
Odoru Made in Wario
Hajimete no Wii (+ remote)
Ennichi no Tatsujin
Necro-Nesia
And I also confirmed Bleach and Sengoku Musou Wave which will be out by the end of the year.
I should add all that up and add it to the cost of my PS3 and US Wii stuff but I'm not that brave. Needless to say I'm in loads of debt so no one is getting any Christmas presents! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

When the Component cables finally sell out, how many years will it take for Nintendo to Re-stock. And will we need a Wii screwdriver to fix the controller if slightly damaged.

My 21st birthday is on November 25th, but because that's about a week after the Wii's launch, I had an idea on how to get it early.
I'm going to ask my parents if I can just buy it on Sunday (by some strange coincidence, I have off from work) because I don't want to risk my local stores running out. Plus, I'm moving on Saturday, so I'd be too busy moving into my newly-built bigass house to play it. And I absolutely MUST play Twilight Princess as soon as it comes out.
Still thinking about possibly getting a PS3. That is, if I can somehow scrounge up five-hundred-ninety-nine U.S. dollars.

Surely. It's been described a Resident Evil with bugs. Basically you take control of a character in a Survival Horror setting with giant bugs (locusts, mantis' etc) instead of zombies and so on.
Control wise, you use the remote to attack with a weapon and also control your flashlight.
Graphically it's pretty poor - worse looking than a pretty Gamecube game.
The control system has come in for some criticism, but it's expected to be revamped and tweaked for launch.
All in all I'm not expecting anything mind blowing but it does look like it could be something of a dark horse. I'll do a Japanese launch impressions post/thread when it arrives anyway so you'll get more detailed info at that point.
The official site can be found here (http://www.necro-nesia.net/)

I haven't. I'm going to wait to see if stores have any neat bundles or deals on Sunday.
Speaking of the Wii, Elebits keeps tempting me to pre-order it for two reasons. 1) It looks a hell of a lot of fun. 2) PLUSHIE! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif It's too bad I can't choose to have the red Elebit though. I like it far better than the blue one. Knowing my luck (and since it's less rare) I'd get the blue one.

My copy of Trauma Center came in... what I'm worried about is Metal Slug Anthology though... seems nobody knows when it's coming out online so I guess I'll have to call Gamestop and see when the retail store expects to get it (since I preordered it there.) I know Gamestop and EBGames (same company) takes pre-orders online, and they do ship internationally. That is an option for you. I don't know what other places are specifically offering this that offers international shipping. Konami's US website has this too, but they don't offer international shipping.

I'm a little weird, but I'm really excited to get around to some of those Gamecube games I never opened... y'know, stuff like Paper Mario and Zelda: The Wind Waker. I held off on opening these since I wanted to play these games with decent cables (aka: component), but those were ridiculously expensive for the Cube. Now that the Wii's out and my component cables have shipped, I can finally get around to these.
I might buy some VC games just 'cause. I'm sure there'll eventually be some way to back these up and it's sorta a convenience to have these on the Wii.

Okay, so this could be fun. My buddy here at work and I are trying to find out what would be the best place in Seattle to try and grab a Wii on launch day morning. I'll describe the Retailer Landscape.
Target and Best Buy are stacked on top of each other and will no doubt get the most people. Across from them to the south is a mall, with an EBGames inside and a Gamestop across the street to the East. Now on the south side of the mall is a Toys R Us. All these places open at 10AM (BB might be 9AM for holiday hours) on Sunday, and all will no doubt draw a lot of people but of course will also probably have the most units. This area is about 20-25 blocks away from me.
Now, about 5 blocks from my house is a KMart. I've called them and they "have no idea" about if they are getting in any stock. It's a risk but it's more solitary. A few miles to the East of KMart is a Fred Meyer's. Again, it's high risk but solitary and probably low stock, if any (have not called). Also a little out of the way is a tiny game store called Game Town or something, but I haven't confirmed there either. Not a fan of the place as prices have been jacked up there when I've visited. It was at KMart where I found the PSP when everyone else was sold out.
So, which place would you choose? /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif I'm really not planning on arriving more than an hour early to the store.

anyway, i asked the first ten campers if any1 was thinking of leaving. stupid question, all ten had tents and sleeping bags, food etc. they were there for the long haul. my heart broke. if i had just been 2 minutes faster, i could have camped out as number 10. according to the futureshop guy, that branch will only get 10 units
driving like a maniac to other Best Buy and Futureshop locations in three different cities yielded no luck. Vancouver, Burnaby AND Richmond have been taken hostage by gamers. no luck for Zanza /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

Amazon can be a pain sometimes. I've had a Wii preordered from them for awhile now. The reason I went with them is so I could avoid fighting the crowds on launch day. But I also wanted a copy of Zelda, a second controller and some points to go along with it. For the past few weeks, none of those have been available for preorder - only to "email when this becomes available".
Finally, as of this morning, Zelda went straight from "not available" to "in stock". All I needed to do was order it, combine it with my Wii order and have the two arrive in one box next week. Unfortunately for me, also as of this morning, my Wii order is now "shipping soon" which fouls up my whole plan. I could order it separately, but that's extra shipping and there's no guarantee it'll arrive at the same time. So, I might as well brave the store and pick up all those extra bits while I'm at it.
Amazon knew Zelda, controllers and points cards were due to arrive soon, so why didn't they open them up for preordering sooner? I can't figure that part out.

I don't think there will be limited copies of Zelda or points cards. Why don't you just pick it up at Target? You might have to order the controllers on Super-Saver shipping or go store to store.

That's pretty much what I'm planning. Between Target and Best Buy, I'm confident I'll be able to track down the bits I'm after before the console itself arrives. I'm just surprised the online shops don't have more stuff preorder-able so close to the console's launch.

I just got one of the coolest phone calls ever. I have a Wii reserved at my local EB Games, and just got the confirmation phone call. Instead of having the regular store employees call everybody to let them know reservations would be available, they have a recorded message from Reggie himself tell you that your Wii will be available at midnight tomorrow. It's a small gesture, but really shows how much fun Nintendo has with little things like this.

Gamespot reviewed Twilight Princess. One has to simply go to Gamefaq's Zelda board to know the fans are in an absolute uproar. I'm a huge Zelda fan, but I still can't help but laugh at their blowing it out of proportion like its a crisis. Still hoping to pick it up when I pick my Wii up at midnite.
8.8 BTW. Not at all bad.
I went around town to scope out lines this morning. 1 Tent at best buy, 4 guys in chairs at Circuit City, 2 guys in sleeping bags at Target #1. Then I went to Meijer's which I thought would be where I'd be going, but turns out they already had 30 people in line last night and had a raffle for who got to stay, so their seats are already full.
But I did manage to pick up controllers at Target today. Got 2 remotes and 2 nunchuks, one set for me one for a friend.

So, I went to the Walmart 5 minutes from my place...they are not participating in midnight sales, even though it is a national ad. *shrug* Guess people will just have to wait it out until 8am. (I'll check the lines at ~ 4/5 A.M. to see, since I live so close by.)
However, I went to my 5 minute KMart (which is in the same mall, at the opposite end of Walmart), and they're getting 3 in. Here's hoping that if I get shut out at Walmart, KMart can hook me up, especially since that store in particular is always DEAD. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Yeah, my Kmart is probably getting a very small number too. For me, Kmart is the store I'm only going to as a last resort, as I don't see myself getting one there. I'd rather look elsewhere.
I'm not too worried though. At least, at this moment not having seen what my area looks like yet. I'm leaving pretty soon. Hopefully things aren't so bad.
On Thursday night there were at least 50 people outside Best Buy and I know they didn't get anywhere close to that number of PS3s. However, I know most of those people wanted a PS3 to resell so greed drove them out there. Most people who want a Wii truly want it to play, plus there are more of them.

That probably a good idea getting the games and accessories bought ready for tomorrow.
That's what will be happening to me anyway. All of my games should be here a couple of days before the console arrives. Doesn't look likely I'll be getting mine before next weekend but at least I am getting it.
Having said that, how many of you that will be getting one tomorrow plan on taking Monday (or more) of next week off work/school? I'd hate to have all day Sunday to play it and then have to get up for work the next day /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

Went to Best Buy today, and it looks like some of the tents were still there...of course, I'm guessing that the other day, the row of tents to one side of the entrance was for the PS3; the other side was for the Wii. I can't put my finger on it, but I think a tent with a sign above it saying "Wii!" was a dead ringer. Maybe not.
Looked like maybe five people were camping there. I don't think there will be too much of a problem with the launch of the Wii, to be honest.

Did something stupid apparently. Have a Wii preorder in place at Ebgames, and surprisingly, it will be open tonite at midnight. Didn't foresee they'd do that for the dozen of us, so I didn't plan ahead accordingly.
So minutes after finding out I told my friends and they want to come over and check it out. But of course I then realize I never switched my Twilight Princess GCN preorder from about a year back now to a Wii one. Hell, I don't even think they had a Wii version back when I preordered. And my Gamestop has fewer copies than preorder, so I won't be allowed to purchase one come midnite.
Not to mention I hate the idea of buying an extra Wiitroller, when I have one from online on the way to arrive on Tuesday (not to mention several other games). But I've got friends coming over, and I can't imagine them being entertained with 1 player Wii Sports. What to do...what to do.....
Damn, and here I actually got my component cables straight from Nintendo on Friday. Oh well, they will be put to use before Monday, because at the very least, I will scour town like hell come Sunday at 8AM for a copy of Zelda, 8.8 review or no.

Oh yeah, this is something I meant to ask. All of this online/wireless etc stuff with consoles kinda goes over my head and I usually just stick to the games, but since the Wii is going to be so easy to take online, using the same wifi USB plug as the DS, I was wondering about getting connected.
I'm pretty sure I read the Wii wasn't wireless out of the box and so some sort of wireless adapter will be needed. Did I imagine that or can I go online straight out of the box?
And on a related note, it seems the Wii Network has gone live (http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/wii/wii-network-is-live-update-hits-215822.php).

Wii Online Support (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/online.jsp)
The Wii comes with 802.11 g/b wifi out of the box, so if you have a wireless router setup it will connect and be online right away. If you don't have a WiFi router, you can use Nintendo's USB WiFi Connector or their LAN adapter, the latter isn't available yet though.

Demand is high, I'm sure, but Nintendo keeps increasing the launch allocations and there's going to be a steady stream of them through the end of the year. I don't think anyone who wants one is going to have to wait very long.

Good call. While I don't know if there's a shortage, because of all the PS3 hooplah, there is no shortage of people hoping to profit off something like this. As that number gets larger and larger, they artificially increase demand, and will no doubt make a launch even like this incredibly tight.
Good part is though, that even if Nintendo is a little short, or keeps the units fairly tight at launch so as to not let the PS3 launch get ALL the attention, they probably still intend to meet then number they've put out for the year. So they'll probably continue to distribute a fairly steady supply through Christmas. They want publicity, but don't want to lose some sold units for it, so they'll still get as many out as they can by the holidays.

Which is why people should just wait for a Wii instead of buying it off of Ebay. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
Well, early word from some of the lines out there is that the Target numbers were bogus... those were numbers they had ordered, not numbers they were actually receiving. Apparently all the lines at Best Buy and Target around here are full and units are spoken for. I'll assume the same for TRU since they were doing pre-orders.
My last chance is Sam's. Hopefully the bundle they were selling on line is the same bundle they will sell in the stores.

thx for the info guys, you all rock
ok, in my PJ's, gonna hit the hay early tonite. i'm gonna be stupidly safe and drive out tomorrow at 5am, 5 hrs before Futureshop opens. unless a HUGE group camps up, i hope to get one as Futureshop did not take preorders. i asked the manager a week ago, and he said no preorders for the Wii cuz he was "sure" Futureshop would have enuff stock to satisfy "all customers."
OK! PS3 disappointment behind me, operation wii in t-minus 7 hrs from now, 5am Pacific! all AoD'ers in Vancouver, if you wanna come keep me company, i'll be at the Robson branch bright and early tomorrow. i'll bring my DS Lite and PSP with games in case we get bored /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I recall reading that you need a Gamecube controller for your Gamecube games, which is why I have to find an extra GCN controller. I'm keeping my Wavebird, but as soon as I get my Wii, I'll be giving my Cube away.
I'd prefer to use a Wii Classic controller just because I think I like it better. As I've said a million times before, it's a SNES pad with omnidirectional sticks, and that's the awesomeness I like. But the Wavebird is a pretty good substitute in the meantime.

Numbers were spot on for my area. Local Target said they have a little over 200, so I'm going to show up a couple hours early. Drove by earlier tonight at 12 and there were only five people in line.

My roommate (the AoDer formerly known as Kratza) is taking off right now to check out the lines - neither of us is expecting success, but it's worth a shot. I would have gone if I had any desire to do so, but I don't. I want a Wii, but not badly enough that I can't wait a few weeks.

i'd keep the second controller as it does indeed connect to the Wii for use when playing GC games, and I beleive NES/SNES games.
I'm just watching the Gamespot launch video and they've been having a lot of questions from viewers (including this sort of thing), apparently the lauch store in NY has 5,000 units
The guy who bought the first Wii was fairly obviously a big nintendo fan (I think he had a powerglove on?)
I can't help but think this is how a console launch should be /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wii basically has a Cube built in. There are two memory card slots and four controller ports specifically for Cube peripherals. I looked at Nintendo's site for more info, but they're more about bullet points than details. It does say that the Wii Classic is necessary for Virtual Console, but it does not say whether you can use it for Cube games. I think I read somewhere that you still need a Cube controller and MC to play Cube games, but I sure can't find the article anymore. So yeah, keep your extra controller, I think.

So yeah, got it set up and tried out some Zelda and Wii Sports (haven't played Trauma Center... tomorrow morning.) Zelda is... from what I played... what you'd expect. Phenomenal. I didn't get to play that much, but it just feels right somehow. I'm going to wait a little while to really start playing that one, but wow. I can't wait. Wii Sports is also what you'd expect. It's pretty fun, but nothing really that substantial that you'd spend a lot of time on. It's definitely a good showcase for what the Wii can do though.
Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed by just how well the Wii works... it just feels really solid all around and you can see that there's some really worthwhile uses for the Wiimote... it doesn't feel like it's just a gimmick which was my #1 concern. That said, I'm sure the system will receive great Nintendo games and bad 3rd party games for at least the first year, but there's some really amazing stuff that companies are gonna be able to do with this. Well, as long as Trauma Center and Metal Slug Anthology don't disappoint, I can live with the inevitably weak 3rd party offerings. Anyway, given how I take a "guilty until proven otherwise" approach to most things in gaming (especially stuff that's supposed to be innovativeZ), I'm very, very happy with how this turned out.
The system seemed to connect to the internet just fine... and it was an extremely simple process which was nice. All systems should have built in wi-fi in order to make the online functionality mainstream. Oh, and Nintendo didn't lie about the size of the Wii... it is fucking tiny (I don't think it's even quite as big as 3 DVD cases stacked together)
So yeah, this was probably the most exciting launch for me personally... I ran back to my car after I got the system partially because I was excited and partially because I didn't want to get mugged by some bastard on welfare. I wish I had more time to mess around with the system, but I'm pretty damn tired.
Johnny (or anyone), if you really want pics, lemme know and I'll take care of that tomorrow.

Just got done playing mine for like 90+ minutes myself. Oddly enough, playing Zelda and then some Wii sports. I'm a little bit more harsh than Chacranajxy though. I've grown up with the big N, but I try not to cut them any slack for it.
My initial impressions are as follows. Looks? Love this the most personally. The fairly mainstream Ipod style. System's fairly small, but you gotta kind of give it its space for all the stand parts. One thing I'm not into is the extra wires involved. One for the touch sensor, not to mention the nunchuk attachments. Can certainly make your room a mess if you have multiple ones lying around.
Graphics? I have a Nintendo first party component cable (delivered just Friday by the big N themselves). Using Zelda as a reference, its not much sharper (if at all) than the S-video equipped FFXII I've been playing the living hell out of recently. There's still that jagged look to a lot of backgrounds, especially when in motion (sorry I lack the technical term for it). Still, let's be honest, Zelda wasn't souped up for the Wii and Wii Sports isn't exactly a visual masterpiece. Other games will be a better analysis of this. I'm quite sure just because it starts fairly equivalent to the nicer looking titles of last gen, doesn't mean it will stay that way. I look forward to trying some other games out.
Now what you all want to hear about, the motion and control aspect. It's very much what I was expecting. It is not catered in the slightest to precision. It is definitely for the motion aspect in general. Is this a bad thing? Not really. One can only expect it due to its need to cater to different living areas. When it comes down to it, its still flailing your arms about in general (no matter how much I play Wii Tennis I am certain I will always suck at the real thing), but the motion aspect at least forces you to get a little more involved with the game, and that certainly won't hurt.
As for the controls themselves, very different. Its going to take a long while to get use to, and they'll be no classic fighting games with this thing. But I LIKE IT. My wrists can rest on my knees with the buttons in each hand. Definitely think I can get used to it.
My take on purchasing decisions? I'll still say its completely up to the software support. I'm not all that impressed with the abilities of the hardware. It's promising but rough, so the third parties are still going to have to put their best foot forward and really spend time (and perhaps tons of money) messing with ideas to enhance the gaming and motion experience. It remains to be seen whether the third parties are attached to Sony at the hip, and I love the 360 hardware to death too (maybe even slightly more than the Wii but its way too damn early to tell), but I'm sure the Wii would do just fine if the third parties showed a little love. Either way, gotta admit its a little cheaper, so if your friends all have 360s and you're waiting for the PS3 to get cheaper and get some A-tier games, its a natural selection.
Will certainly mess around with this thing a little more tomorrow. Gonna crash now. Nite.

[/ QUOTE ]
Wii Online Support (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/online.jsp)
The Wii comes with 802.11 g/b wifi out of the box, so if you have a wireless router setup it will connect and be online right away. If you don't have a WiFi router, you can use Nintendo's USB WiFi Connector or their LAN adapter, the latter isn't available yet though.

I got mine last night at GameStop's mdnight launch party, and then came home and went to bed because I have to be at Best Buy at 6 am to get ready for our launch. OUCH!1
Anyway, got some questions.
1. Do GC games just go into the slot loader like the Wii games do? Does the machine give them back? The reason I ask is because I once but a mini music disc into a car's slot loader player, and well, it wasn't pretty.
2. How badly do the games get scratched up when they slide in and out of the machine?
3. Where do I put my Ethernet cable to go online?

1: Yes
2: I don't know
3: It has wireless out of the box, and Nintendo will be releasing a wired adaptor "soon" that I beleive will plug into the Wii.

1. Yes, GC games go into the slot loader like the Wii games do.
2. They shouldn't get scratched. I've had a slot loading CD player for the last year and haven't had any issues. I know some of the older slot loading machines used to scratch discs at times. Both the PS3 and Wii are slot loading and no one's reported having their discs scratched by them. Although, the PS3 seems to have its own problems, like the red beep of death....
3. There is no Ethernet port on the Wii. You can either use the built-in wireless (B/G are supported) or the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector that you use for the DS via a PC USB port. There will be a USB Lan Adaptor released (December in Japan, January in the U.S.) that you plug into the Wii, but otherwise you'll have to wait to go online for now.

Well, I got my Wii today. The 3 games I picked up are Trauma Center, Red Steel, and Zelda. Red Steel is pretty damn bad. Not only do the graphics looks pretty dated, the gameplay is not that great either. The game is also pretty darn buggy.
Trauma Center is pretty cool, but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't do a full voice over for this version. Everything seems to be pretty much the same as the DS version(the beginning few levels at least) and the music has been improved as well as the graphics. And lastly of course, there's Zelda. This was probably the best out of the 3 games that I purchased. A word of warning: This game starts off REALLY REALLY slow. After about 2 hours in, that's when things get interesting. I was pretty disappointed at first, but now I'm really liking it. So in recap, Red Steel blows, Trauma Center is cool, and Zelda is slow in the beginning but awesome once it picks up. I can't wait for the 2nd generation (graphics and gameplay) Wii games.

Nintendo never ceases to amaze me with their peripheral choices.
Got mine at TRU! They had about 20 extras, we were numbers 7 and 8 in line, but there were more than 20 there by the time they oepned. Only a couple of the pre-order people actually showed up at opening.
The target next door was supposed to have gotten in the neighborhood of 60 units, and only had 33. They were sending people away when the line grew too long the night before.

I got Zelda too, but haven't played it yet. Going to pick up my Trauma Center reserve later today. A lot of people were disappointed they didn't put full voice overs in Trauma Center, but who knows, maybe they'll have a sequel later on and they will.
I should note that I've read an interview with the head designer of Zelda where he said people should judge Zelda as the starting point of Wii's graphic capabilities (basically because they did next to nothing graphic-wise porting the game over to Wii due to spending so much time on getting the controls down which they thought were more important).

Well, it'll depend on the game obviously, but I got used to the controller right away. It feels really natural. I think Trauma Center will put all the uses of this thing to the test, but so far it really is simple enough to pick up and play. I think the issue with the Sixaxis is that it's a standard controller and it makes no sense to have to move that when you've got 2 joysticks, 1 d-pad, and a shitload of buttons on it... both systems are going to see gimmicky uses of the controllers for a while probably.

I just got back from my local Best Buy. I walk in about 9:30 in which they say they are sold out, but still had 3 reserved that hadn't been picked up. They would sell the 3 if no one with a ticket came in by 10:00. I decided to wait in the leftovers line which had 1 person in front for a half hour. Only 1 other parent walked in and stood behind me. 10:00 comes and they BB manager says to wait another 10 minutes. The 10 minutes pass and the manger sadly reported there was only 2 reserved that didn't picked up. So now I have a Wii and Twilight Princess which I will now be playing.

I apologize for being anti-climatic, but after work this morning, I decided to go to the Best Buy on 44th and by some miracle, the line wasn't that long. I was about 18th in line and only waited two hours for the store to open. Maybe this is because the other stores like Nintendo World had a midnight launch and this is for the people who couldn't get it then. I ended up getting:
Wii console
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wii 1 GB memory card (BB handed out a free $5 coupon for this for the people in line) /images/graemlins/happy.gif
Nunchuk
Wiimote
Classic Controller
Grand total: $471.37 /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
I'll play this tonight because I haven't had any sleep since six last night and I have to be rested for work. In the end not exactly a midnight launch like I hoped, but better late than never. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm warming more to FPS lately as Red Steel is one of my most anticipated games and I'm enjoying Resistance on PS3 far, far too much.
I'm even looking into CoD 3. Just not on the Wii though - you seen how complex the controls are on that? Makes Red Steel look like Wii Sports!

Showed up at the local Target at 6:30AM and was number 141 in a line of 210 people. Suprisingly that Wii stock information that was leaked on Target was spot on.

So I get to Target at 7:00am. They only had 39 and all 39 people were there (I missed it by about 4 people). I then go over to Best Buy. They had 102 units and only 90 people were in line. Great. I wait. And wait and wait. It was very cold. However, the mood was pretty darn good. I didn't find anyone that was planning to sell the Wii. Everyone was going to take it home and play or save it for a Christmas gift (mostly for kids).
BUT I got my Wii, along with Red Steel, Trauma Center, Zelda, and an extra Wiimote. They were out of nunchuks by the time I was allowed to go in and get my stuff. I checked Target, 2 Walmarts, 2 TRUs, and a Circuit City. All were out of nunchuks but 1 of the TRUs and the Circuit City. However, they wouldn't sell me a nunchuk because they were "for the people who reserved." /images/graemlins/relief.gif
It's sad, but a nunchuk seems harder to find than the Wii itself. Meanwhile everyone had Wiimotes and lots of copies of each game.
My boyfriend is hooking up the Wii right now. We just got home a little bit ago with all the running around looking for another nunchuk so we could play Wii Boxing 2 players.
I ordered a nunchuk from Nintendo along with a component cable. I want soon!

Ah cool, glad to hear you got one /images/graemlins/happy.gif
Weird that the nunchuk was hard to find, but I've heard that there seems to be more Wii's than copies of Zelda in some places so I guess it's to be expected that some games/accessories are in short supply.
EDIT: Oh yeah, more generally, is anyone having any of the early reported problems like some consoles needing a startup disk to format them, not connecting to the net, remote not working, not even turning on etc? /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

Every store I've been in has a ton of copies of Zelda so I don't see it running out. The game I've seen the least amount of copies of, strangely, is Excite Truck. I only saw it at Best Buy. Nowhere else had it.

Yeah, you didn't get Red Steel, right? I was just watching GT's review and added to what I've already read, I can see it taking ages to get used to the controls in that game.

That game looked like shit from the start though -- Ubi went in with as many gimmicks as they possibly could so yes, that game would be difficult to learn.
[/ QUOTE ]
And there's one more gimmick for the UK release. You get a bonus DVD from ADV Films, with trailers and episode 1 of 'Samurai Gun' on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
That rush of awful that you get from Red Steel and Samurai Gun being in the same package is truly more lethal than being skewered by any sword or shot by any gun.

the 360 version of CoD 3 is the best since the PS3 version has frame rate issues. I'm gonna be picking that up myself. It's really amazing how all of a sudden, console FPSes are starting to turn around. There's some exclusive to consoles that don't suck (like CoD 3) which blows my mind since that most certainly was not the case last gen. The genre still has a lot of garbage in it, but given that CoD 3 is supposedly on the level of the last game, I'm very optimistic about that in particular.

The Wii comes with 802.11 g/b wifi out of the box, so if you have a wireless router setup it will connect and be online right away. If you don't have a WiFi router, you can use Nintendo's USB WiFi Connector or their LAN adapter, the latter isn't available yet though.

If anyone gets into the shopping channel, could you do me a favour and let me know if there is any sort of region restriction for buying points? I'm assuming my Mastercard will be fine and that I won't need an address or anything but I'd like to know 100%

I seriously doubt there's a restriction for buying points... Nintendo wants your money and points should be universal. I'm downloading the update right now and I should be buying the games I said I wouldn't buy in about 10 minutes.

I did the exact same thing this morning (along with a classic controller). Finding Zelda and a regular controller was easy enough, but I couldn't find nunchucks or a cable anywhere. Target had a pretty wide selection of games and parts, but Best Buy had a "Wii out of stock" sign out front and hardly anything for the console at all.
Hopefully Nintendo won't take too long to ship their stuff.

Dear KMart:
Thank you for being so ghetto-looking (and so close to a Walmart) that no one would think you'd be selling the Wii. My brother and his best friend are now two happy Wii owners.
- Hielostar (#2 in line) and Hielo's Mom (#3 in line.)
Ok, seriously. My dad, along with my bro and his friend got in line at Walmart around 5. There's around 35 people, so there's always hope. Group 2 (Mom and I) hit up KMart around 6. One lonely person standing around. Around 7:30 or so, Group 1 walks over to the front of KMart. The Walmart only got 34 Wiis, and Group 1 was around #38 or so. A nearby Walmart pissed off even more people - when that store ran out of units, they sent people to the store closest to me - saying my store had 68. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif
So, the KMart opens at 8, and the manager comes out with 6 tickets, and hands them to people as they enter. Everything was very well run. When you purchased a Wii, you had to buy either two games, or a game and an extra Wii Remote, or points card.
Then...I had to go to work, so I couldn't type this all out right away.

From what I've heard, Nintendo is planning on having continuous shipments of Wii's going out. As far as I know, they expect to have stores restocked in time for Black Friday, or possibly even sooner.
For the Wii Points Card, you do have to be connected to the internet in order to use it. The games need to be downloaded, so it makes sense. Although you don't have to have a Wii Points card to buy games. You can purchase points using a credit card just like you can with XBox Live.
By the way, I spent most of my initial HOURS with my Wii just getting the thing online. For some reason, it didn't really like to play well with my wireless router, a Westell provided by Verizon, until I went through a played with several settings. Of course, the USB ethernet dongle for the Wii won't be available to next month, so that wasn't even an option.

You needed to get in line earlier. My friend got in line at Best Buy at 3am and was number 20. They had 75 units. Granted, he also has a cold now and called in sick to work (it was 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) out), but he thinks it was worth it. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Just to add to this, Kotaku (http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/wii/dead-wii-reports-215885.php) have had reports of dead Wii's already. Granted, only 2 people have contacted them but it only takes a quick look on GameFAQS to tell others seem to be having problems with their console.
I hope that after everyone seemed to be expecting the PS3 to have problems and there haven't been many reports of any real problems with them, that the Wii isn't going to be plagued with issues /images/graemlins/depresse.gif (course, not that it matters. Nintendo only make indestructible/problem-free hardware, right?)
I take it no one here has had any of this happen?

I'm sure if it does, you'll hear about it.
That said, the point isn't necessarily that Nintendo makes problem-free hardware, it's that the hardware is less error-prone than Microsoft's or Sony's. I was talking to one guy in line for Wii that went through 3 XBox 360s and another one who picked up a launch unit and his works fine. That said, Microsoft was excellent about replacing the bad units and I'm sure Nintendo will be too. I doubt you'll be getting a replacement PS3 nearly as quickly as one of the other two.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to try to get my PS3 replaced (if I had a warranty, which I don't but just hypothetically /images/graemlins/tongue.gif) but what I mean is that if this was the PS3, the internet would be alive with comments about how evil Sony were but Nintendo (and MS depending on whether you belong to the "Wii60" club) get given the benefit of the doubt for the most part. Double standards and all that.
But enough of that. I'm just hoping this doesn't become a huge issue.

By now everyone knows that the Wii is not region free, but fret not. I imported all of the Naruto games on gamecube and had to order a boot disk (Freeloader) to get them to with my gamecube. Got my Wii tonight (I am loving this system so far) and decided to test out my import games. The didnt work using them alone, but I used freeloader and now my import games work on my Wii as if they were on my Gamecube.
Word of caution: I inserted the freeloader disk, and selected it from the disc channel, the system read it and restarted. Went back to the disc channel again, selected the freeloader and the system took me to the normal freeloader screen and asked me to swap the disk like normal. I am assuming that the freeloader disc needs to be in the system from the start, or it may restart after the first read. Either way it works, and I will be trading in my gamecube tomorrow.

It's not that terrible. I mean, it's better than being a mental retard and blowing $2,000 on ebay for the console itself. Then again, it appears most people got it, so I dunno if it will go crazy like the PS3. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Whoo! Got mine this afternoon! /images/graemlins/happy.gif
I was surprised that they sold out (here at least--mostly because my friends and I have never had problems with N64, GameCube, and DS launches), but luckily I pre-ordered mine just in case. ^^; Couldn't find any extra controllers and minimal decent games.
Oddly enough, Target, the last place I checked, had the two games I did wanted: Zelda and Excite Truck (which is crazy fun).
I've got it hooked up online and now that my friends who didn't get one are done playing it, my family is now. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

This is the first time I've stood in line for a console launch and I think it will also be the last time as I doubt I can take doing that again. Went to Target a bit over an hour before the store opened but there was a ton of people there, and when they passed out vouchers I missed the cutoff by a few people. I went to Circuit City after that and managed to get their last one. They ran out of Zelda but Target had about a dozen copies when I went back after picking up the cosole. I ended up getting Zelda, Trauma Center, and Rayman. I haven't done much playing though. Spent some time making Miis, and mostly played Wii sports which was rather a hit with my family members, and I've played a little bit of Rayman which so far is pretty quirky fun. The Wii controls in general are so far handling a bit better than I was expecting. I guess everybody is getting online with their Wii because downloading updates took forever, and I couldn't get connected to the Wii Shop. I'll probably play a little more later, but now I am tired and worn out.

Anyone have their media slot's blue LED light up for more than a split second? I turn on the console and it does a quick flash and that is it. I thought it was supposed to stay on for a few seconds, so as to let someone put a disk in, while in a darkened room?

It's just the Wii with two games - Zelda and Excite Truck <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> the game my bf is getting and yeah he knows </span> for $339.99.

After a small amount of sleep and 7 hours of work, I finally managed to make it back home and set up my Wii. Most people here experienced the same long time periods of setting up the console. Getting it online was no problem (since I know how to get this router to work with almost anything), but having to download two updates was annoying. By the time I was up and running, I decided to check out the virtual console and I downloaded Donkey Kong. I also have spent some time with Wii Sports and I can easily say I've never played anything quite like it. Nintendo has definitely redefined gaming with this console and I plan on playing some more of the console this evening (after I take care of stuff I need to do!)

The classic controller is a pleasant surprise in how comfortable and elegant it is in playing classic games. I really wish this was the controller for the Gamecube.

No, as far as I know it's only supposed to light for a split second when you turn the system on. And it's not hard to see where the disc feeds in, as soon as you put it near the loader it sucks it in anyway. Just be sure you have it facing the right way when you do so.

I had my Wii turned off in the horizontal position for a couple hours, came back and the bottom of the unit was VERY hot. I thought the Wii was supposed to use next to no power, when in standby? Has anyone else experienced their Wii getting hot on or off?
edit:
Turned on the Wii and the fans kicked on right away, so I let it stand for 10 minutes or so and it's cooled off. The side of my Wii on the left is a bit bowed now... I'm worried to turn it off and leave the power adapter plugged in. Might leave the standby option to off, but really I shouldn't have to I would think.

Anyone have any trouble picking up Zelda? I've been hearing reports that many places online and off are sold out and copies are reaching $100 on eBay. I've received some Wii games already (Red Steel, GT Pro Series and Trauma Centre 2) but even though I preordered Zelda first, I haven't even had it ship yet.

Zelda is notoriously difficult to find in Vancouver. Bestbuy and Futureshop are both sold out, EB Games stores just have display boxes all over but no actual games. Zellers is useless, they barely had any stock anyway
yeah, i feel bad for some of my friends that lined up for 5 hrs and got a Wii but are having more trouble finding games to play. c'mon Nintendo, Wii owners need their games! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I had absolutely no problem getting Zelda. Infact, I stopped by Best Buy yesterday afternoon and they had a good number of copies of Zelda left. Wii systems, controllers, cables were all sold out. The only thing I could find was the controller glove, Wii point cards, Wii carry pouch, and some games, which Zelda was one of them.

Heh, good things come to those who wait. Just heard that my preorder with Import Madness will ship when they get stock (Wednesday or Thursday) and they are doing International next-day shipping for the price of regular postage /images/graemlins/happy.gif
I'm told it should be with me on Monday at the latest. Time to get that leave from work booked /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Oh yeah and I hear the Wii is like 85w or something. Not something non-Euro importers will particularly care about but I find it funny I'm using the same stepdown I use for my PS3...which is 500w /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

My Wii works perfect. It got lots of testing time yesterday too. I played it for over 4 hours, stopped to eat dinner and watch Super Gals, then played for another good 2 hours. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif Haven't played it yet today because I have to go to the college testing center soon for a test. Once I start playing the Wii I won't stop so I'm waiting 'til I come home from that.
I set mine up for Connect24, but I turned on the option so it won't download updates on its own. I will make it download updates. I don't want it downloading all kinds of weird crap without me knowing.
Also, I haven't seen anyone mention this anywhere so in case you didn't know johnny... Opera is not available yet. The spot where you'll be able to download it from the shop just says it's coming soon, with no specified date. The Forecast and News channels say the same thing so I'm wondering if Opera will be available when one of the updates for those are.

I think whether or not Zelda is available depends on the area. Just about everyone picking up the system here was picking up a copy of Zelda somewhere. I picked mine up at EB with my system during the midnight launch and cancelled my pre-order at Game Crazy when I picked up Trauma Center. The manager was happy because they didn't have enough copies to go around and everyone wanted one. The 2 Best Buy's, a Target, and Gamestop I went to on Sunday were all sold out of Zelda.
So basically, yes, there is a shortage in some areas of the U.S. How widespread it is I have no idea.
