Nope. As Digi said, it's a matter of needing to buy certain accessories which cost too much and I don't know how they work for the most part anyway.
I'm determined to get online so I can buy the Idolmaster stuff in January though.

I doubt I would do much competitive gaming online anyway. I'd just use it for demos/downloads and so on.

If you own a 360, yes. However, if you do not pay, you are only limited to a Silver account, which gives you basic access to Xbox live to make downloads and purchases. If you pay to have a Gold account, you can play other people online and Microsoft has exclusive content for Gold members (usually demos go to first Gold members then Silver). Right now I am a Gold member, but my subscription runs out in about a month and I haven't played anyone online in nearly 7 months, which is why I am considering dropping the Gold membership.

There's decent people on Live -- I play with people I talk to online since I know that they're not the lowest common denominator like the vast majority of people on XBL. Johnny isn't quite up to the standards I'm aiming for though.

But yeah, I'm already somewhat addicted to Live. Not that I haven't played online before, but the PSP/DS/PS3 don't yet have the library of online games and having a good 80-90% of my 360 collection having good online play is a great thing.

That is definitely true. I was more astonished, not the fact they talk amongst themselves, but the fact I found a group of Japanese gamers on xbox live back in Winter 2005!

Two of them speak english and four of them don't, but I understand Japanese well enough to know what they are talking about... when they aren't all talking at once that is. I only need to comment once every hour or so when the two that speak english get stuck on a word and don't know how to translate it.

Of course, shoot first, think later! It's how we play! Either that, or strategy sometimes goes nowhere. I can't really speak; I've only played co-op games online (GRAW, Gears of War, Crackdown). I tried following a tactical approach in Battlefield 2/2142, and it just didn't work out for me. :P

You can sort of do a half-ass, poor man's version of that with the recently added Friends of Friend feature. Someone would need to create an AoD Silver account, and then everyone could just add the AoD gamertag to their friends list and when you view Profile->Friends you can see everyone.

But with no auto-accept on invites, someone would have to maintain the account just to keep adding friends who want on.

Even though I have had my 360 since January 2008 and have maintained an Xbox live account for much longer, I have not yet played any 360 games via Xbox live.......

However I don't have many "multiplayer" 360 games at the moment.

I recently got MLB 2K8.......and really like the 1-player franchise mode despite some 'issues' with gameplay.....and have heard that the online version has even more 'issues'.

I don't remember it, was just kind of random since I've played lots of COD 4 and never heard anyone that out front. As for reporting I've only done it to one person who seemed to have a fixation with my first name, why I changed it to something more neutral who thought I was a full blown pedophile. I don't know how that works out, I didn't have my mic in, he just based it off my Lego name which I use for everything since it's a short handle and most know me by that.

So Steelers it's and I've made other Steelers fan friends online, no biggie. As for games, I just own COD 4 and NBA 06(LOL right?) since it came with the system. I was going to get Madden but I'm just going to wait for this years since the draft is close. Younger brother wants GTA IV, so if you get that I'll probably hop on multilayer or he will. You know him as Mash4077 in the Fantasy Football leagues. Aside from that I don't see anything that interesting with online play as I'm not a huge Halo/Gears of War guy. The only real games on my list "to look out for" atm are:

Banjo Kazooie(whenever that comes out)
Madden/NCAA 09
DMC 4(when it goes down in price)

Ah the joys of Xbox live mic's. Some people like using it as their own personal radio station and others just like hearing themselves talk.
Although on games like COD4 if you get a good lobby then it actually becomes decent and worthwhile having your headset as you can warn people and find where people are and play like a team. Although these are very very and you just get people talking utter garbage for 10 minutes. Just use it when you need to I always have mine plugged in but I just turn the volume down if its nothing but noise.

I agree. I have madden 07 and I enjoy the hell out of it, but never bothered upgrading to 08 as it seemed to be the standard EA polish up and no big improvement. Although if the new Madden has a great online perk Ill be all over it :bigsmile:

Well I've been battling this flu for the past two weeks or so, but I ended up picking up Madden 08 since the younger brother had a Best Buy gift card. So I'm sure Azu will want to play me and beat me 50000000 to 3 since I'm still fairly new at it.

I tried the whole mic thing a little earlier tonight(like 30 minutes ago) and nothing. I mean I'm all for the "teamwork" aspect that you mentioned but it's hard most of the time because I'm usually not the outgoing type on things like that(especially after the experience I mentioned) and most of the time the people can care less or seem to know each other already. Although I have no problem hooking it up when someone from AOD wants to play.

If you beat a preteen, their usual way to 'get back at you' is to talk shit about your mum or sexuality. If you don't respond, they don't know what to do and so leave bad feedback. Sad but true.

I was disconnected from Burnout Paradise once when playing multiplayer and got a 'left early' comment. As I have so little feedback, it counts for 50% so looks really bad.
Either leave negative feedback in return or get people on your friend list to comment favourably if you want your rating to go back up.

I don't think I've ever looked at another's feedback before. With there being no way to respond to feedback left about you or know where it came from, makes the whole thing pretty worthless. As far as my feedback goes someone left me negative feedback saying I was unsporting, or something. Not really sure why.

If you beat a preteen, their usual way to 'get back at you' is to talk shit about your mum or sexuality. If you don't respond, they don't know what to do and so leave bad feedback. Sad but true.

I was disconnected from Burnout Paradise once when playing multiplayer and got a 'left early' comment. As I have so little feedback, it counts for 50% so looks really bad.
Either leave negative feedback in return or get people on your friend list to comment favourably if you want your rating to go back up.

I could see that in a game of Madden but I've had so many hosts just quit mid game on me in COD4 that I don't even bother anymore. I knew this from playing Asheron's Call and playing many games online for years, but if theres one thing I need to ask Santa for is a thick skin. Live is a whole different animal, even playing with people like Azu and getting the "haha noob" treatment. I don't mind the "online hazing" at all, I'm used to it, maybe I need to work on being a jackass like most of the people I hear talking on Live.

I can only imagine the color commentary I'll hear while playing GTA IV online.

So they kept talking smack about this supposed Japanese girl they thought they were playing with. hah! No idea what people will think of me.

Also, for those who like college football, sounds like NCAA 09 will have 12-player online dynasties.

I almost never use my mic; it's buried somewhere in this house...plus the majority of people that I end up playing against are assholes, but anyway.

Despite being a guy, I have a tendency to select female avatars. My reasoning is, if I have to look at this character for however long I'm playing, it better be easy on the eyes. So, case in point, Guitar Hero and Rock Band...opponents will often call me a chick, or worse. Say that they can't believe they're playing a girl, am I hot, etc. Although the best is when there's a group of people watching my opponent and I can hear them yelling in the background, "Dude! That girl just totally kicked your ass! You lost to a girl!"

After some talking with Azu, wolve, and some timely advice from malazar, I just went ahead and changed it to "SteelerGridiron". Yeah I know, "why did you change it Lego?", "Who cares Lego?". Believe me, I can understand any frustration directed at me. But while talking with the younger brother, he to mentioned that he'd also get people thinking that we were someone else, couple with the friend requests made me switch for one last time.

I could really care less anymore name wise, no one has this name or anything close to it. So it's still me, just with a different ending to my name. Man, I've had shitty experience after shitty experience with Live since I picked up a Xbox in Feb, lets hope things change for the better.

No. However, with the new party system coming with the fall update, it looks like you can be in the same party but play different games. This means you can essentially have group private chat.
