Just a heads up - Sonic has been delayed and NBA 2007 has been cancelled.

Weird, I just got them off of EB today. I figured they'd be up to date.

Sadly that's not always the case. Heck in some cases I wonder if they're mainly just guessing the release date. Of course it could be dependent on how often they update and when these date changes or in some cases cancellations occur.
Yikes. That looks pretty underwhelming. Sequels and sports for the more part. I'd hoped for some original content to really take advantage of the PS3, but it looks like the developers are taking the safe route until they learn the quirks and foibles of the new hardware.

It was more or less the same with the 360 and PS2 launch. As always, RR will be the game to show off what the new hardware is capable of and get everyone drooling. Gets me every time.
Anyway, you seen the Japanese PS3 launch lineup? There's like 5 games.

They are never up to date. Trust me! After dealing with EB Games for several years. I've learned that they are always behind (by a couple of days) with their release schedule and Gamestop is no different.

I'm not getting a PS3 at launch, but I'm going to pick up Ridge Racer 7 for sure... I might get Resistence and Call of Duty 3, but considering how hit and miss console FPSes are, I'd have to try them before committing. Rainbow Six Vegas looks like the first truly great game in that series, but I'll be picking that game up on the PC. Overall, I think that the launch lineup for the PS3 is better than what the PS2 had, but that's really not saying much. I'm not anywhere near convinced that I need a launch system.

The PS2 launch had one title in particular that was meant to show off the system, was a completely new game in a fledgling genre, and was pretty damned awesome. They called it SSX. I don't see a PS3 launch title that even attempts to meet all four of those criteria. So I'd say less the same as PS2 and more the same as 360.

Nothing on that list makes the PS3 even slightly interesting at the moment. I don't see myself getting the system for a while.

IGN gave Resistance a pretty solid review (9.1). Sounds like it'll end up being the flagship launch title for this system. Not too bad. If we were to count Zelda as a GCN game, I don't think either of the other two launches are sounding significantly better or worse. Resistance is sounding about on par in momentum as Call of Duty 2 for the 360.

It might not be completely new, but it's generally accepted that the latest Ridge Racer game shows off the power of whichever Playstation it is launching with. Not 100% or anywhere near it obviously, but reading reviews and impressions it seems to be widely considered the most graphically/technically advanced launch title, in Japan at least.

Well, since I've managed to get hold of a Japanese console, I'm going with Ridge Racer 7 and Resistance in terms of Japanese launch titles and, assuming the whole region-free thing holds out, I'll likely go with Genji 2 and Motorstorm (although it could be delayed...) for US launch games.

That's part of the reason I'm not buying a PS3 yet... I'm not interested in a single launch title. It's really weird too. Most consoles have at least one game that tempts me at launch.

Resistance, Untold Legends, Madden, Marvel Ultimate Alliance & Sonic for me!

Hmm, this set of launch games doesn't look very interesting to me. Surprisingly enough.. Usually a system has at least one launch game that tempts me (whether I buy or not), but I'm disappointed that the PS3 has none at all.
Back to waiting for the Wii, then...

Anyone know if the Gundam game is dual language, with both Japanese & English dialogue?
Sony has snubbed Europe for a 2006 launch, so I'm looking into importing.

Yes, along with Ridge Racer 7 and Resistance Fall of Man, the Japanese version of Gundam features both English and Japanese language options.
It'll be a couple of days yet before we find out for sure about the region-free capabilites of the PS3, but it's a sure bet that any game that features dual language options will definitely feature no region encoding.

The fact I have no plans to get a PS3 at launch means none of the above by default. However out of those titles listed the only one I'd even consider is Sonic the Hedgehog. Although based on more recent Sonic experience like Sonic Heroes, I'd well hesitate a bit. Still then again it doesn't matter much in the long run as Sonic the Hedgehog has been delayed.
So yeah even I have to admit this set of launch titles is a failure for me. However in the long run it may not be such a bad thing. After all the first wave of games will suffer from lack of experience with the console. I'd rather the "sequels" to series I truly love get the benefit of both experience and an established user base.

Thanks. I definitely want RR7 as well. Looking good, do you know where to MO a US &/or Japanese PS3 from?

Me too. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif But, it's ok, since I have like nooo money left now, anyway. Another game system can wait. Nintendo would have me with the Wii, if they weren't putting Zelda on the Cube too... so I'm amazed to be safe from both. For now. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

For a fellow European, eBay is basically your best bet. Unless you know anyone in Japan or the US who can ship it to you but bear in mind that either way, you will be paying at least double the retail price and there are hidden costs too.
For example, I got mine from eBay for £740. I had to buy a £50 stepdown and because Parcel Force handle EMS shipments in the UK, am looking at another £150 in their fees which makes a total of £940. I got one game with it and free shipping, but ordered two other games at £35 each which gives a grand total of £1010 for a Japanese launch console and 3 games.
If you get a friend overseas to ship you one, assuming they can get one and will sell it to you at cost (100,000 each week expected in Japan until Christmas), you will save money due to dollar/yen rates but it costs something like £115 to ship a package the weight of the PS3 to us in the UK. Plus, if customs get it you've had it. It will be at least £200 and it may take ages for them to get off their arse and give you notice that they have it.
Good luck though, it's encouraging to see other Europeans ordering/getting them regardless of Sony's lawsuits.
EDIT: Also, regarding PS3 games, if you haven't read my post in the news thread, NCSX have tested US games on a JPN PS3 and they work so it looks like the region-free thing was true after all /images/graemlins/happy.gif
