Ok so Oblivion Elder Scrolls reqs a PC with 3 Ghz Intel or similar...

So if i were to go and buy a dual core pc... do only I need 2 1.5 Ghz intel cpus? or do I still need a 3 Ghz one which I dont think exists yet do they?

What about AMD Cpus?

My pref is to wait till the next Win OS comes out in Jan... but still I am having a hard time deciding what Ghz number I should buy for a dual core pc that will last the 3 to 5 years since it looks like my pc will run 2 to 3k... thats without a monitor/printer.

The market at the moment is emerging from a single-core based one to a multi-core based one. Oblivion's specs were designed with the idea that more people would have a single core computer over a multi-core machine.

I honestly don't know what to tell you about the requirements for a single core machine compared to a dual core machine and their equivalents (especially since I don't have a PC dual-core machine), but I would invest in at least a 2.0 Ghz + when it comes to a dual-core machine and that should be enough to run the game.

As for waiting till Vista, it might be a good idea. When Vista comes out, companies will have DirectX 10 graphics cards on the market and benchmark tests will be out there to determine a good gaming set up with certain CPUs and graphic cards.

So if I were you, I would hold off till Vista comes out, but if you really want to spend now, go get yourself a dual core 2.0+ Ghz, which should last you for a while.

When considering CPU speeds for multiple processors, you do not combine the speeds. So 2 1.5Ghz processors does not equal a single 3Ghz processor. That's not how it works.

From what I've read, most Core2Duo processors so thoroughly spank the older 3Ghz single core processors the point is rather moot. Personally, given current pricing, I'd go for a C2D E6600. I've heard rumors of more price drops in January so things may change by then. The beefier AMD chips should be good enough too.

Just make sure you get a decent videocard too. That'll probably the more serious performance bottleneck.

Make sure it is a DirectX 10 video card if you plan on investing in Vista. They are just starting to come out with them.

I just got a new Dell XPS 410 with an Intel Core Duo 2 processor @ ~2.13 Ghz I believe; combined, it is clocked in at 3.19 GHz. It does quite well with games, I must admit...of course, compared to the Pentium 4 2.26 Ghz I had before this, I'm probably quite biased. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
