R3 Muse DVD question

Hi. I recently was shipped the second R3 TW Muse set of Saint Seiya. The box was a bit tight but thats fine, and overall its an adequate R2 subtitute. However, in order to watch it in Japanese, Chinese subs are forced into place. TO get rid of them you need to watch the show in Chinese which I don't want to do. I know of a way around this (rip, reburn, bleh) but I don't like it much, and I was wondering if other Muse titles (One Piece specifically) have this problem too?

So you're saying that Chinese hardsubs are encoded into the video?

Or can you just use the subtitle button on the DVD remote to turn them off?

It sounds like the subs are forced on - they default and the remote button is locked out during playback. Some players will ignore this, but most won't. Rip and reburn is usually the best way to get around this.

I'll ask people at Muse. Their products are good and shouldn't have hardsubs like Bleach (by another company, of course).

He didn't say they had hardsubs. He said you were locked into having chinese subs if you watched it with Japanese audio. To quote his post: "TO get rid of them you need to watch the show in Chinese which I don't want to do.". Obviously if it were hardsubbed that would be impossible.

Non-removable sub while watching in Japanese audio -- which IS a hardsub by the outcome. :P In the eyes of consumers, that IS a hardsub, no matter how it was encoded.

Anyway, I had a busy week and didn't have a chance to contact anyone at Muse. Before doing so I checked their website again and noticed this for the TV boxset (http://www1.e-muse.com.tw/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=181&osCsid=d88ba353e5065d415a423cdbcc978dbe):

That explains everything. Unfortunately quite a few older titles have this problem. As for thread opener's question: don't worry for One Piece, for their Chinese subs are concealable.
