The first volume comes out next month, and I wanted to know if its worth buying? Im looking for a Series with good ation, and a story that doesn't suck.

I would be interested in a response to this question as well. I've heard a little bit about it, but I don't usually get into Shonen Jump stuff. Yet I find myself sucked into Bleach on Adult Swim.

I'm probably the wrong person to answer this, since I tend to like alot of stuff that noone else does, but I'll give it a stab.

I liked it. I liked the manga better, but I did like the anime.

Alot of people dont like the manga at all, I think the usual criticism was the story was kind of blah. Great characters, weak story.

The anime kept some of the story elements, but changed a good bit. I didn't mind that at all, although I like the original story.

What I didn't like was the way they changed the main characters personality. Hard to explain, really, and I don't really want to spoil anything anyway.

Even with the changes, I thought it was a fairly solid show. Nothing earthshatteringly good, just solid. But, solid enough at least for me to purchase it myself

It's a shonen title. Bleach is better than this plotwise imo.

You could always rent it first and buy it later.

Black Cat starts off rather good, but sadly over time it goes downhill and ends up on the bleh side. However over the course of the series there are some nice moments in the series. So I'd say in the long run it turned out average.

I think the more you care about the leads in the series the more you'll like this series and be able to look past the problems I mentioned. Thus it would be a good idea to at least check out the first volume and see how you feel about them. Then decide from there.

no don't buy it. no replay value for me. like the others have said. the beginning is pretty good, and i thought the main dude was badass at first. the ending is VERY rushed imo. i've lost faith in gonzo. 7/10 at best.

To add to this, I have to say that this is one of the sh*ttiest animation I've seen by Gonzo. It got really annoying when they tried to save $$ by cutting on animating mouths move by just showing back profiles or backgrounds when someone is talking.

Are you serious about back and side shots, no shots of people actually talking? I'm very much a film nut, and while there is some style in that. If it's overdone, it shows a lack of respect to the viewer about what style really is....

Well, as long as there's not too many .hack//sign-esque sequences, I'm fine with anything. :D

You know, I think I agree with you on that. :)

You know, after you first started mentioning this, I started trying to look for it in the episodes as I watched. It didn't work too well. :nervous: Most of the time I'd forget all about it because I got too involved with the story and characters. The few times I did notice it, it didn't really bother me - I've seen similar in lots of other anime (and it's not like they do it every time someone's talking - I saw plenty of mouths). Maybe Black Cat does it more than others, I wouldn't know, but not everyone finds it as glaring and unwatchable as you do. :)

I wouldn't have even known about it if you hadn't mentioned anything. I haven't seen anyone other than you complain about it, either - at least not at the level you do. I hope you don't scare off everyone who might enjoy it because of one thing that bothered you. :P You could at least tell them why you think they shouldn't get it because of whatever failings you think the story has, or the characters, or whatever, as well - not just the "problem" with the animation. :)

It's a lot like, say, Soul Taker; it's not as weird, but the directorial style is very similar, all slanted shadows and coloured lights.

I hadn't noticed it as much as piano_cello, but it is there. The show is an odd little beast in that although it's based on a Shounen Jump title it aired in a night-time slot and is treated much more like an "otaku" anime; there's some rejigging to the manga plot and the overall pacing and acting is much more subdued than other Jump action shows.

I quite liked what I saw of it; the story and characters are quite utterly unoriginal but there are some nice ideas in there and the direction rises above the material.

Are you baseing your opinion on fansubs? Gonzo tends to improve the quality on thier DVD releases (adding frames, cleaning up details).

I recently saw the first couple episodes at a convention and it seems like we are watching two different shows. Every time someone was talking they had mouth flaps, the animation was fluid, the fights were nice.

like i said, the beginning is pretty good. but after a while the main dude's personalities sorta changed for the worse. the animation quality is average, didn't make an impact on me and yes i was watching the fansub version before it got licensed of course. the worst bit though is the rushed ending. it seems to me that someone at gonzo wanted to finish this show early. only 23 episodes.
