I remember reading here that 4 Kids had it licensed, but have never seen any mention of its showing, what's been done to it or if its been shelved?

Also was Mew Mew Power ever finished?

I haven't been following the situation closely lately (so could be wrong), but I believe both Mew Mew Power and Magical DoReMi got cancelled. I'm guessing they didn't meet 4Kids expectations. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Some people would be happy about that I guess, but the continued failure of magical girl series in the US market saddens me, whether its 4Kids or not...

If something is presented badly, it's going to fail. There's just something in the way magical girls (and little girls in general) are dubbed for a lot of US tv that makes them bad and barely tolerable. The Clueless affect and the trend to make them all seem bratty and self-absorbed. The exceptions tend to be aimed at preschoolers.

Besides, failure is relative. PreCure was very popular among US anime fans. In that regard, it was a success. Same with MewMew. I heard less about Doremi, so I can't comment on that one, but I know it has a following. They just didn't work well for 4Kids in a butchered state that alienated the fanbase (though PreCure still has a chance). They also aired in a dying time slot. If they'd been on CN, Nick, or Disney they probalby would have done better.

And Doremi was the least-butchered 4Kids series since the early days of Pokemon. With the exception of a couple cut-happy episodes, the only changes were names and music. I'll even admit to semi-enjoying it (although no changes is still the best way to go!)

4Kids was originally planning on dubbing all the episodes of Mew Mew Power, but apparently something must've happened along the way and only the first 23 episodes were ever dubbed to my understanding. I don't know what's going on with 4Kids and PreCure but 4Kids have stated that they're starting to focus more on their original properties instead of anime so much, so I don't know if they're still going to dub it or not. Hopefully, this could eventually lead to 4Kids' rights to Tokyo Mew Mew and PreCure expiring soon so some other company like ADV can pick them up and give them a proper uncut release. I just hope 4Kids doesn't try to dub Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch...

From what I understood, Studio Pierrot refuses to allow 4Kids to have the rest of Tokyo Mew Mew, due to how the series was handled by them. There are also other factors apparently. This is why 4Kids, I believe stated, they were having trouble aquiring more of the episodes.

In the case of Doremi, it's the ratings that seemed to have cause it's cancellation. There's supposibly something else that caused the show to be pulled from the channel, that's somehow linked to no showings of Precure and One Piece put into rerun hell. (Supposibly, after a certain episode, CN didn't recieve anymore episodes from 4Kids.)

I'll let you guys continue to speculate on why Doremi and the other toei shows licensed by 4Kids are put into these situations.

While it's nice to hope for such a situation, I wonder how long we'd have to wait. I guess the best case scenario is 4Kids loses/gives up the license as fast as they can. While the worst case scenario is they sit on the license as long as they can. Still it would have been nice to see Pretty Cure on U.S. television, but of course in a reasonable form of course.

So, now that 4kids has "officially" confirmed that they no longer hold the license to One Piece anymore ("source": http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=2441948&postcount=159)

does anyone have any concrete info about their other Toei licenses, Pretty Cure (and Ojamajo Doremi)?

The rumor was that Pretty Cure would air as a mid-season replacement, but that time is up and there hasn't been a single peep about the show from 4kids since they announced the licensed at NYCC 2006.

Unlike One Piece, though, which is a shounen jump product, Pretty Cure is entirely owned by Toei animation, so if 4kids lost/never actually bought the license, that means that no one at all has it, correct?

One can only hope Toei decides to off-load it to someone else for cheap and it gets on TV as it really should.

Frankly, I hope Bandai gets the license, since they already make all the toys and seem to be doing a good job with their other shows.
