View Full Version : Favorite protagonist in a Junichi Sato-directed anime

Maybe somewhat of an unusual poll, but I noticed a lot of Junichi Sato protagonists are heroines, and that they tend to have similar traits (with a few exceptions of course /images/graemlins/wink.gif) So, it was something I was curious on, plus nothing wrong with discussing Junichi Sato anime. I'm going to include protagonists from every series or movie he's directed (only ones in which he is a major director). I tried to have everything, so hopefully I got the protagonists right on the series I haven't seen. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif I still may have forgotten someone, so if you have another character to mention, feel free to reply.

I picked Sora and Ahiru (if I had to pick just one, it'd be Sora). I like Himeno and Usagi a lot as well, though.

I went with Sae and Ahiru.

As for Wapiko from Goldfish Warning, I don't consider her a protagonist. She's really more of a comedic foil, much like Mihoshi in Tenchi Universe.

I figured I would get one wrong. She was just listed first on Japanese Wikipedia, and a few English summaries I read said she was heroine, so I just went with that. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

Anyway, though, my picks were also Sae and Ahiru. Sora was very close, though, and I do like many of the other ones I've seen.

I went with Sora and Himeno, although that was a very tough question to answer /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif.

Ahiru and THE Odanga Atama!

I voted Sae and Ahiru (in that order).

The only other shows that I've seen in their entirety on this list are Kaleido Star and Pretear. Although I did see a few episodes of Keroro Gunso on TV in Japan.

I had to pick Akari (My favorite. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif) with Sae as second with Sora as a very close third.

You forgot Lina Inverse in Slayers Premium. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

As for me, Akari and Sora.

Bugger. I misclicked - meant to choose Akari (along with Usagi) but ended up submitting the vote without. Sorry. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I saw her, but didn't include her since Sato was only involved in one movie for the franchise, so it didn't seem like enough for me to count.

Ahiru: Ahiru is probably my favorite character in anime, ever. Even though her true form is a duck, her emotions are those of a human being. You feel happiness and sadness as she experiences it. Also, it's so cute when she quacks. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Doremi: As the lead character of my favorite anime, Doremi's an obvious choice. She's so eager to use her magic for everthing, although she usually screws up. Doremi's also the best friend anyone could ever have. Let's hear it for the "World's Unluckiest Bishoujo."

One thing I need to say first: Sato did Maple Town?!? /images/graemlins/knowital.gif

Anyways, considering how I'm currently into Sgt. Keroro, I voted for a certain frog who loves building Gundam models.

Sae is one of my favorite characters of all time. I didn't even vote for anyone else since she stands head and shoulder above anyone else.

Well, Sora Naegino in my view is the greatest anime character ever so naturally she was my #1 choice. The second one was tough, though, but I went with Ahiru/Duck slightly over Himeno. Very tought question considering all of the wonderful, likable characters listed; just shows what a great director Junichi Sato really is.

For anyone on the new forums, the polls have disappeared, but apparently you can still view the old poll and vote on it if you wish: http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1473457&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

Looking it at it as it is now, it seems Ahiru is pretty far ahead, which is cool (definitely seem Tutu fandom is pretty strong when it comes to these forums), after that it's been pretty tight between Sora, Sae, and Usagi.

I haven't been back to the old forums, but will try to get my vote in.
For the record, I chose Duck  (Ahiru).

EDIT: For my second pick, I chose Sora from Kaleido Star.

I'm going to go with Sora from Kaleido Star.

Sae was my first and I can't abandon her. I wouldn't have had interest in any other Sato show if not for that delightful Ikuko Itoh invention.

Hm, realized I didn't make a second selection, but it would have been Duck anyway and she doesn't need much help at the moment.

EDIT: For my second pick, I chose Sora from Kaleido Star.

Same here (same order, too. :D ).

People would be surprised how close I went between two and not pick the one which is obvious if you look at my name. In the end, Sora did get the nod, but only JUST ahead of Ahiru. And coming up close is good old Keroro...:)
