View Full Version : SRPGS with replay value

The last strategic RPG I have played is Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis and I thought it was the best SRPG I have played.
I didn't like Final Fantasy Tactics because I found it to be a bit too linear whereas Tactics Ogre had branching story lines and you could setup mock battles with the units.
Personally I am looking for a SRPG that is similar to Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis with it's customization and practice battles.
Are there any good SRPGS with replay value?

If you're looking for SRPGs with replay value, my first recommendation would be...well, FFT. Not so much for the story, which is purely linear (with two optional sidequests late in the game), but for the gameplay - depending on the classes you choose for your characters, you end up approaching the same battles in very different ways.
For branching story, I guess my best recommendation would be the PS1 game Brigandine: The Legend of Iscalio, which is a large-scale wargame on the level of Risk, but with standard S/RPG battles. There are six characters to choose, and how you approach the game will change dramatically depending on who you play as.

Disgaea is pretty good. It's a massive game with almost an inexhaustible amount to do. There are multiple endings depending on the way you played the game, though I don't think the "path" really branches a lot in the sense you're speaking of.
Super Robot Wars Original Generation 1 and 2 (http://www.atlus.com/srt/) are both out in English in the US from Atlus, and they're cheap, so go buy them!
Vanguard Bandits has pretty good replay value, with 3 main story arcs depending upon what decisions you chose to follow. You can only follow through on 1 story arc each play through and each is totally different with different story, characters and battles. Plus who can resist the concept of Fire Emblem style gameplay with giant Gundam-esque robots doing the fighting? :)
