I noticed that new Slam Dunk volumes haven't been released for over a year. Did Geneon decide to stop or something?

It was actually Toei that had the license; Geneon did the distribution. Their releases flopped so the company either went on a long hiatus or just abandoned the R1 territory altogether.

All of the Toei DVDs distributed by Geneon were officially discontinued.

yeah their releases flopped because of the horrible quality of the dvds (horrible inaccurate dubtitles, etc..) thus justifying to Toei that it was actually the US anime market's fault and not theirs for releasing sub par stuff. Brilliant no?........ :tired: i wish i had the rest of Air Master *Malrock makes a Right Whale sound*

Which is unfortunate because Toei has some really great stuff. I want to get into Saint Seiya but I don't want to get stuck around episode 60. Let's take the rest of the series by force.

Yeah, I miss Air Master too.

Please somebody, anybody..... Get Toei to give you the license for it.

Does anyone know if Toei's R2J releases are just as bad?

I have the R2s, they look pretty good except for a bit of mosquito noise. Never seen the R1s.

I seem to remember hearing that the R1s have the same video quality, but I think that might've come from one of Chris's reviews so he might've been mistaken as I don't believe he has seen the R2s (bad video quality sometimes looks good to him as well, I remember he thought the footage from the original Tenchi Muyo OVAs on the 1st ep of the new OVA series looked great).

The R2s also have full chapter stops, all the episodes on each disk are on one title, and they of course have the next-ep previews.

The movies were given a HD remaster so those look great, but they were obviously never released in R1.

Interesting. I wonder why Toei was being so arrogant/ignorant as to believe that their DVDs would sell in R1 in the way they released them.

Surprisingly, the R1s of Slam Dunk were from the same remaster as the R2s and looked really good. No major compression problems or anything like that, it was just everything else that was crappy.
