I thoroughly thank VIZ video for releasing all of Maison Ikkoku. I am looking foward to picking up the DVDs to replace my old VHS tapes, and imports. It's long over due. I am surprised and glad they finished the TV series. My question now is where will the rest of the franchise go? I understand there are a few movies and OAVs. Will we see any of those?
The movies mean the most to me. One is just a recap of the entire TV show, but the other takes place after the events of the last episode. It would mean a lot for me to see it after years of the TV show.

1 movie & 2 OVAs.
One of the OVAs is a "reminisence" consisting of a bit of new animation, then flashbacks from the whole series. The R2J looks like LD or VHS to DVD dump in video quality compared to the other OVA.
MI movie is definitely worth wanting IMO. It takes place in a time slot from about 1/3 into the final TV movie. The R2J disc has creditless openings & endings from MI TV.

You know, I am a huge fan of InuYasha and lately I have been thinking of getting into Maison Ikkoku. It looks adorable. I'm glad to know now that they have the complete dvds out.

MI is definitely worth a try. Its the only Takahashi anime series with a definite very satisfying ending.
Box sets 1 - 3 were sold through retail & online stores, but 4 - 8 only from Right Stuf or Viz themselves.
Try the manga as well, 15 volumes total, slightly different & shorter than the anime but also very enjoyable. :)

Shorter?
The manga had more stories than were used for the anime. There were a few anime only shows, but they skipped the Nozomu intro arc entirely and never used him in the anime except for the after the wedding movie.
Granted the anime used most of the manga storyline and was one of the best manga to anime conversions I've seen, but I wouldn't call the manga 'shorter' than the anime.

Another episode involves
getting stranded on a desert island thanks to Mitaka.
Sounds like fun we desperately need in the states.

Yeah that does sound pretty funny.

The movie and the OVAs (except the recap one) are very good, but somehow I get the feeling even though Viz licensed them they have no intention of releasing them anymore.

I may be wrong but I don't think Viz has them.

No, they do have it. They have the DVD Box Sets for Volumes 1-8. They also have the manga in 2nd edition for volumes 1-15.

Figure this. The MI TV episode #24 is released with its unique Gilbet O'Sullivan op & ed, & another episode has one of those songs reprised as background in-episode.
But on the movie DVD, which has all TV ops & eds creditless as an extra, those for #24 are presented without their songs. There is text in Japanese before, but I can't translate what it says.

I don't have the text in front of me, but I believe it said the songs were not included on the creditless op/end because the distributor no longer held the rights to them.

I gotta get around to writing that 'Thank You' letter to Viz for not quitting on Maison Ikkoku. It's one of my all time favorite anime series.
I've been in the mood to re-watch it lately too. If anyone starts a discussion thread or something, hit me up!
