Okay pardon me while I geek out for a moment...
I love Shinobi. This movie is blindingly Gorgeous and one of my fav's! (And I'm not just saying that because I work for FUNi. Some of my favorite movies are Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Hero)
If your a fan of the Fantasy, Kung-Fu type flicks this one is for you! Did I mention this is the stunning live action movie developed from the Kouga Ninja scrolls, the same source material for our Basilisk anime series? ;)
So straight from 'The Man' we got word the site is now alive and kicking.

I have the R2 LE DVD which has subtitles. Afraid I'll be passing on this one from FUNi.
It is a good movie, but not great.
People who like Basilisk will enjoy it I'm sure. ;)

Happy to hear that since I ordered it during the last Funimation sale at TRSI.

Oooh, nice. Definitely going to check this out.
I have to second the problem with the trailer. After that little red line lengthens to the left, the scene fades and a nature scene comes up then goes out of focus and that's it. Nothing else happens other than the music continues to play.

Is there a reason why the movie is called Shinobi but the anime & manga are called Basilisk, while the original novel apon which they're based is called The Kouga Ninja Scrolls?

Looks good! Still holding out for the HD version though...

Basilisk is actually Basilisk: The Kouja Ninja Scrolls and Shinobi was made to be a romanance movie so I can only assume they changed it so it would fit the theme of the film better as The Kouga Ninja Scrolls doesn't really sound all that romantic.
Honestly I'm looking forward to this movie more for the female lead, Yukie Nakama, as I've enjoyed her performances in the Japanese dramas Gokusen and Trick.

Oh I knew that, but why add Basilisk to the title? Wht does Basilisk mean? Just curious.

Yeah the movie does seem to have a very different vibe from the anime, just based on the website. Although Shinobi doesn't sound any more romantic than Kouga Ninja Scrolls. The "Heart Under Blade" subtitle certainly fits though. :P
And I can't seem to view the trailer either.

The romance lasts all of five minutes, and then all the rest is ninja kicking ass.
Nakama Yukie is awesome.
People who like Basilisk will enjoy it I'm sure. ;)
Question?
Will the ending to this movie spoil the ending to Basilisk, I'm buying Basilisk blind and am bloody lovin it so don't want to spoiler it by getting this.

Sorry, I can't help on this one. I own all of one disc of Basilisk and am actually looking to sell it as I know I'll never feel like watching it. And if I do, by the time I want to watch it FUNi will have a box set out.

Hey Guys,
Our robot is being naughty again. Bad Robot! Bad Robot!
I heard there's some trouble with the server and we'll have it fixed by the end of the day. So the trailer and stuff should be fixed later on. Sorry about that!
I wonder how much robots are going for on ebay...
And now for a few questions:
As for HD, This version has been taking from an HD transfer and will be very high quality. We put all the extras on a second disc so that compression won’t hurt the films clarity.
but why add Basilisk to the title? What does Basilisk mean? Just curious.
SPOILER WARNING: Why Basilisk for the title?
A Basilisk is a legendary reptile that is supposedly the king of all the serpents and said to have the power of causing death by a single glance. Genosuke has the power to force someone to kill or hurt themselves or others with a glance. Hence the reference to a Basilisk.

Basilisk and Shinobi have different endings and overall paths to the end are different as well. There are some similarities naturally but by watching one you won’t spoil yourself for the other.

But the fact remains that the DVD will be in standard definition. Sure it looks better when it comes from an HD master that has no real defects, but it's still not high def.
So it is safe to assume that FUNimation has no interest in releasing the HD version that is being released in Japan (or has been released; I'm not sure if it's out yet or not)? That's the only way I'd personally buy the movie again.

It's still cost prohibitive for smaller vendors to get into the HD game on either format right now, so I'm not surprised. I'm loving every minute of HD (in BD format) so I've got my obvious biases. I stopped buying live action DVDs in January 05 knowing that all of this stuff was coming up.
Shinobi has been released on HD DVD in Japan during the summer, but it didn't retain the subtitles from the DVD release unfortunately.

Shinobi has been released on HD DVD in Japan during the summer, but it didn't retain the subtitles from the DVD release unfortunately.
At the time it was solicited (I recall someone here posting info on it) I didn't have an HD capable setup, and had already bought the LE DVD set (the combined version for both the Iga and Kouga). I can't justify spending R2 prices on the HD version again and since I have the R2 DVD version (which also has subs), I have no need to own the FUNimation edition.
As much as I appreciate FUNimation releasing the movie here, I'm done buying things just to show the industry my support. I get nothing for buying a release I already own on R2 or R3 other than subtitles which I generally don't need and I don't need to subsidize an English dub I'll never watch.
So I won't double dip on anything unless I'm offered something better or it's a property I thoroughly love. Shinobi fails on both counts. I liked the movie, but not THAT much.

The site isn't working for me in either Firefox or IE 6. In Firefox the main site loaded but very slowly. However, the trailer never loaded. With IE the main page never loaded until I clicked on it (I just had a spinning bar up until that point). The trailer got farther along in IE but never got past the Japanese company logo after waiting for five minutes.
So if you'll come back and tell us when the site is really working I'll give it another try.

Just a heads up the trailer and site should be up and working now.
Thanks again!
