Yeah,... another question from me about my neverending quest for a plasma tv this holiday season :)

Been reading and researching on plasmas and have heard two differrent stories about their heat output.

1. It doesn't matter because the current technology is way better than in the beginning.

2. The heat output is detrimental to the device and shortens its lifespan

Any one who has a plasma care to elaborate or comment on this subject?

Thanks

Heat is NOT a problem. Yes, I can certainly feel that my TV is on when I put my face up to it, but it was the same way with the CRT TV I had. But this in no way means that my room is turned in to a sauna when it's on for an hour or two.

As with many plasma 'myths', most may have been true with regards to some models in the past, but if you buy a current set of a certain quality (doesn't mean it has to be the most expensive), you will not experience any problems. Much like with burn-in.

Aside from powersupply issues it won't affect lifespan. It depends upon the brand and quality of the unit. Good plasma brands don't have any problems with these issues. The aforementioned powersupply can be responsible for a considerable amount of that heat on cheaper brands, and watch out for units that have noisy cooling fans. The tv should be able to run silently.
