The video we got on the latest Animeigo release WAS the remastered footage they used on the R2 Japanese DVDs. They added the English tracks and subtitles to the MPEGs (and broke the DVD standard, though it seems to work on most all players) and released them here in the US.

Unless you want to spend more money than you should on the R2s, you might as well buy the R1 set. There is also a Korean R3 set and I believe a Taiwanese R3 set that uses the R2 footage frame for frame, including no subtitles. That's also a less expensive way to go over the Japanese R2s.

So to answer the question more simply, yes the Japanese R2 DVDs are remastered. ;)

Never knew the R2 DVD release already was remastered.
I'm tempted to buy the R1 release because you said it had the R2 MPEGs. (I wish more R1 releases would do this.) On the other hand the Taiwanese release got LPCM audio. :cool:
