Does anybody happen to own any discs from this company? Them seem to be legit and there are a few releases from them that interest me but I can't find anything about the AV quality. I'm rather hoping they just port R2J's but in my experience it's never wise to make any assumptions with Taiwanese discs.

I'd be interested to hear what any owners of their releases have to say.

Cheers.

Well, I got the Daddy Long Legs DVDs from jsdvdmall and the image quality is fine. It's a 90's series after all. Now, the subtitles are another story. I don't think you should buy this unless you're prepared to sit through severely broken english and misinterpretations of what is said.

But it's a lovely series.

Don't know about their other releases but these seem fine.

Progressive? Don't think so, but then most anime DVDs are not.

First, this company is legit. They have released quite a few collections from the World Masterpiece Theater. I own the R2 version of Conan: The Boy in Future (6-Disc). I thought the quality was pretty good for a series originating from 1978. I also own the VCD versions of A Dog of Flanders, Anne of Green Gables, Marco, Perrine, and Raccoon Rascal. The quality of the VCDs obviously won't be as good, but good enough for me! They also have a website if you can read Traditional Chinese, http://www.pimgroup.com.tw. By the way, which series were you looking into? I maybe able to find more information for you!

Unfortunately, however, if my source is correct, PIM is not going to expand its anime licensing business i.e. no more new titles. Most of their non-WMT (World Masterpiece Theater) titles, including .hack//SIGN, Gravion, Statos4, Gokusen, Wolf's Rain, and Kiddy Grade, seem to be out of stock. I'll see if I can nab their GiTS:SAC (2nd GIG is by Proware) with under US$40 at TIBE 2007 (not highly possible, for TIBE emphasizes manga and novels, not anime).

I've got their "3000 Leagues In Search of Mother" boxes. I didn't notice any video problems (though I'm not a videophile), aside from the trailers for their other releases not playing for some reason. The translation was probably better than the one for Daddy Long Legs, I suspect. There was occasional odd usage, but no unintentional hilarity, or incomprehensible scenes. I would've picked up their Perrine sets too, if I'd been able to find a place that had them in stock.

Thanks for the information everyone. I do like this cheap Taiwanese anime.

Gokusen and GitS:SAC were the series I was looking at getting if anybody knows/can find ut about those specifically.

Oh crap. That suddenly makes something make an awful lot of sense... *starts doing budget calculations*

I have a couple of their Kiddy Grade discs and personally consider the packaging and extras (which mirror the R2s) to be better than the US release; I don't know if they did LEs for evey volume but I have volume 12 which even includes the Continuity File which was fully translated (into Chinese rather than English unfortunately..)

I'm kind of interested in the Anne of Green Gables and Heidi DVD but I read they don't have English Subs. Can anyone verify?

According to pimgroup.com.tw and yesasia.com, there are no English subtitles for Anne of Green Gables and Heidi. If you're looking for other World Masterpiece Theater titles, I believe A Dog of Flanders, Marco, and Story of Perrine have English subtitles.
