I noticed that there are no overlays in this episode of Bleach.

I'd wait until the next episode when there is more text that is more essential to the plot to see if they really have stopped doing overlays.

Of course that won't help with how wrong Renji's voice sounds though. He should at least have a deeper voice than Ichigo, damnit. :anger:

Yeah, I completely missed seeing him. That's why I didn't know who he was.

The English VA certainly gives a different impression of him than the original. Hopefully he'll grow into it, but it sounds to me like they're trying to make him seem more like a snake in the grass.

Granted I only watched one episode on AS (that was more than enough for me :nervous: ), but I'm not sure I they got any of the voices matching their character in the episode I saw (during the Ichigo vs. Ishida hollow hunt). Whoever's doing Urahara was especially godawful. He sounded like he was trying to come off half asleep...and wasn't even convincing at that.

I hope it gets better for the dub fans, 'cause what I heard wasn't all that promising.

I disagree, in general. Many of the characters are reasonably good fits. Keigo, in fact is probably one of the best, and maybe even better than the Japanese one (sacrilledge). Although, Urahara was weak, Ishida was just wrong and I hear Renji is off, yeah it's not perfect.
