OK, all you Haruhi nuts, what is this "Nyoro~n" thing that has been sweeping the internet like a meme gone wrong. I remember watching all of Haruhi on TV, but I don't recall this Nyoro~n thing. What is it and what does it mean?

Thanks.

I'd also like to know the full backstory on this one. All I know is that it has something to do with smoked cheese.

Ok, you know the character Tsuruya? (Mile long green hair, fang, laughs a lot?) well, she has obtained a fan created...alterego/clone/chibi-thing named "Churuya", who goes "nyoro~n" and likes smoked cheese.

"Nyoro" is a random word Tsuruya would occassionaly throw into her dialog. Its very noticible in the school festival episode.

Thanks for the explanation. I was wondering about this as well. I've seen her (Churuya) as disarm's avatar for a while, and I had no idea what was up with that and the nyoro~n, except that I knew it had something to do with SHnY.

I've never understood the stuff about smoked cheese though.

Me either. That it was fan created is apparent, but WHY? Me thinks some drugs were involved, but it's funny in a random pointless way.

Which is the entire point. I would guess that the smoked cheese was either a result of something the author saw, perhaps an inside joke with some friends, or perhaps the author just loves smoked cheese.

There's a whole fan comic series about this smoked cheese stuff and they stay funny every time. There ought to be a Nobel Prize category for pulling off something like that.

Fencedude provided the right answer. The artist responsible for Churuya is Utsura Uraraka who goes by Eretto. His website is: http://u-u.2-d.jp/ Note that some of the images that reference events in the show can be spoilerish, so just go there to see his general art style. Most of it is pure comedy though, since smoked cheese spoils nothing =P I know you've seen the show though, so spoilers wont be an issue for you.

His comics have been consistently funny for SHnY fans in their understated way, and photoshop variations of the 4koma strips have become a huge meme, often to humorous effect, though like any fan-driven meme the quality varies. Most are variations involve Haruhi characters and situations, but there are many that parody other shows. Do a danbooru search for nyoro~n (http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/list/tags/nyoro~n) (with tilde) to see some examples of both original Eretto art and fan created art. Be warned that Danbooru has been really sketchy lately, with craploads of links that won't load without a few refreshes, and even then only sometimes -- I think it's getting too popular :sd:

I enjoy most of it thoroughly myself, but I guess that's obvious. Churuya is adorable.
