I'm sure quite a few of you have already seen this but I figured I'd share for those that have not...

From Kotaku (http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/history/a-pictorial-history-of-video-game-systems-226149.php)

Knuttz.net console evolution (http://knuttz.net/hosted_pages/Console-Evolution-20070103)

So how many of these systems have you owned?

For me...

Atari (The one with the faux wood)
NES
Sega Master System (One of my favorites)
Sega Genesis
Super NES (SFII Turbo CE best game ever!)
Sega CD (P.O.S.)
Sega 32X (P.O.S.)
PS1 (Classic)

And seeing the NEO GEO still makes me drool just like it did back in the day as a kid.

They're missing the Turbografx-16 CD add-on! :D

Here's what I owned:

Atari 2600 (both wood & redesign)
Odyssey^2 (got it recently and haven't hooked it up yet)
Atari 5200
NES
Sega Master system
Turbografx-16
Sega Genesis
Sega CD
Sega 32X
Super Nintendo
Panasonic 3DO
Playstation (original & redesign)
Sega Saturn
N64
Dreamcast (Best Console Ever)
Gamecube

I was always a console generation behind everyone else - Bought nearly everything at garage sales or on deep discounts at the end of their life cycles. Never had a SNES until a year ago, never had Playstation until several years after the PS2 was out.

I just play games so little that it's impossibe to justify spending $200+ on a system. The Genesis and Dreamcast were at the tail end of their respective reigns, the Gamecube was the first I've ever had actually during the console's viable lifecycle.

I will probably be an early adopter on the Wii once Sonic Wild Fire and Mario Galaxy come out.

They are missing the Texas Instruments TI 99/4a

The first on the list is a little iffy. It's been gone for a long time, but the first we had was either the Wonder Wizard or one of the Telstar 'pong' sets.

After that it's pretty easy though

Atari 2600
NES
Super NES
PS1 \
Sega Saturn - First gen I could get all three
Nintendo 64 /
PS2
Sega Dreamcast
Gamecube
Wii

-NES (Twice...rabbit ate cords to the first one, so we sold it to Funcoland. Both original versions.)
-SNES (Original version)
-Gameboy (Original)
-Gameboy Pocket (purple)
-Gameboy color (did that come in purple too...?)
-Gameboy Advance (Arctic blue)
-Gameboy Advance SP (First red, then blue)
-Game Gear
-Nintendo 64 (Black)
-Sega Genesis (The first redesign.)
-Sega CD (Original)
-Virtual Boy
-Playstation 2 (Both thick and slim. Just recently bought the slim to take back my thick one from my sister so I could continue using swap magic on it. Still need the power cord back though...)
-Gamecube (Black)
-Sega Nomad
-Nintendo DS (Turquoise)
-DS Lite (Light Blue-import)
-Sega 32x
-Wii

On a side note, my browser really hated that page. Got about 3 runtime errors every time I tried to scroll down. (What sucks is I still looked at the whole page... :sd: )

Let me think here …

• Atari 2600 (wood)
• NES
• NES new version
• SNES
• Playstation
• PS2
• PS2 K chassis
• Gamecube
• Wii

• Game Boy
• GBC
• GBA
• GBA SP
• GBP
• GBm
• DS
• DS Lite

That's a lot of injection-molded plastic!

NES
SNES
Genesis
Saturn
Playstation
Playsation 2
Dreamcast
Gamecube
Gameboy
Gameboy Advance

My eldest brother has a DS Lite and Game Advance SP. Okay it seems the SP was lost, but ah well. He also had a Game Gear once. Then there was the N64 which he owned, but got rid of after awhile. I also think there was an Atari Console, but I can't remember which. Let's just say it was a much older one. Say relative to the NES days or earlier.

Wow, them's a lot of pictures! :P

Out of those, I owned...
Atari
Atari 2600 (my parents' system, really)

Nintendo
NES
SNES
Nintendo 64
Gamecube
Wii

Sega
Sega Genesis
+Sega CD
+Sega 32X
(I believe I had the Master System Converter for that as well...I should know, seeing as that damn thing bricked my Genesis...had to send it for a replacement)
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast

Sony
Playstation 1
Playstation 2

Microsoft
Xbox
Xbox 360

Also owned the Sega Nomad, which was a beastly portable Genesis, but I assume it wasn't listed because of the lack of handhelds on the list. :P

Handheld Systems (obviously they were not listed):
Game Boy (Bulky)
Game Boy Advance SP
DS (Bulky)
DS Lite (Polar White)

I think we had some form of Atari, but I'm not sure wtihout digging it up and comparing images. It had a full keyboard though; just not sure which one it was.
Gameboy (original clunky one)
Super Nintendo (redesign)
Gameboy Colour (pink)
Nintendo 64 (Pokemon Stadium edition)
Game Boy Advance (pink)
Game Cube (black)
Game Boy Advance (purple) (part of an electronics bundle Dad got off eBay)
DS Lite (black, trying to find a pink one to trade for)
I usually tend to get the consoles at the end of their life, whereas the handhelds I tend to get durring their prime; the purple Advance and the 64 being exceptions. I've preffered a red SP to the purple Advance though. :P
I think I did have one of those super-cheap handhelds that failed though. I'm only mentioning it since the game was on a cartridge, but I never got a second cartridge for that system.

I hope they decide to make a translucent light-blue Wii. That would look freaking awesome. That'd be the one I want.

Lesse, I'm not sure which one, but one of the pong games, and:

NES
Genesis
Game Boy
SNES
Atari Jaguar
Sega Saturn (best system ever :D )
PlayStation
Nintendo 64
Dreamcast
PS2
Xbox
Gamecube

I've held out on the current generation, but when prices go down, and I have a steady source of income again, I'll probably pick up a PS3 and a Wii. :)

Well let's see:

My early gaming days were thanks to tag sales. My parents could never afford the newest and greatest video games so I had nothing until I was in the 7th grade.

My first video game system was an NES. I can even tell you where I bought it. It was at a garage sale in the neighboring town. They had the system, a couple controllers, the gun and power pad with Mario/Duck Hunt/Track & Field and Contra as the games. My dad wasn't sure if he should spend the $5 or $10 on it but eventually he gave in.

Mom, on the other hand, had a fit. When I say fit I mean she almost took it away from us and threw it away. She said that I would be too obsessed and I didn't need it. Well eventually she gave in and I played that thing and stocked it with games from tag sales for years.

Over the years I also picked up:
Many Atari 2600s (and Sears systems)
1 2600 Jr.
1 Atari 5200 (it didn't work so I sold it on eBay)
Odyssey 2 (ditto on eBay)
Several Intellivisions
1 Intellivision 2
Sega Master System
Sega Genesis
SNES
Saturn (which never worked)
Original Gameboy
Gameboy Pocket
Dreamcast (bought from a former friend who ended up needing money for drugs so he sold everything he had.)

And bought new in the store:
Game Gear (when they were re-released at Toys R Us for $30.)
N64 Pikachu edition (it was on clearance)
Gameboy Advance (first and only system bought on launch day)
PsOne
Gamecube
PS2 Slim (just a month ago)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something but oh well.

The history in question did not cover hand helds.

From that list I had or have:

Atari 2600
Atari 400
Atari 5200
Colecovision
NES
Atari 7800
Genesis
SNES
Playstation
Saturn
Nintendo 64
Dreamcast
Playstation 2
Gamecube

I think I'm going to stop for awhile.

Stuff owned... all are original makes unless specified. An asterisk means I still have it.

NES
SNES
Genesis
Game Gear (x2 - first was destroyed when mom wanted to play and then was dumb and spilled coffee on it)
Gameboy
Gameboy Pocket (blue)
Gameboy Color (yellow)
Gameboy Advance (glacier blue?)
Gameboy Advance SP (NES version)*
N64 (x2 - technically the first belonged to my stepfather, have a green one now)*
PS1 (x2 - had an original but it died, then bought one with Dual Shock controllers - it wasn't a PSone)
PS2* (x2 - had an original but it died... have Japanese PS2)
PStwo* (my replacement for the original PS2)
Dreamcast
Gamecube*
Wii*
DS (blue)
DS Lite* (white)

Yep, that's all. However, I've also played Sega CD, Saturn, Atari (like Sugei said, the one with the faux wood), and Xbox, though I've never owned them.

Stuff I wished I had played at one time or another includes the Sega Master System, Jaguar (don't ask), Sega 32X, and the never-came-to-North-America Wonderswan Color (when I thought we weren't going to get the upgraded FF1, FFII, and the version of FFIII that was never released).

I feel genuinely sorry for any of you in America who had to buy and look at that monstrosity of a SNES you got.
Whereas in Europe we got the same lovely design as the Super Famicom, Nintendo obviously didn't like the US at the time and so created the ugliest console ever to see if it would still sell.

Call me crazy, but I wasn't that concerned about how the SNES looked when I got it. Today my concerned would be the space the system takes up more than anything else.

Between my fiancé and I, we've owned and probably still own:

SNES
Sega Genesis
Gameboy
Gameboy Colour (pink)
N64
Playstation 1
Playstation 2 x2 (we both own one)
Gamecube
XBOX
XBOX360
Wii
DS Lite

And my fiancé has an old, old Texas Instruments game system lying around the house that he hasn't hooked up yet

I have to say my 14/15 year old self really didn't give two smacks what it looked like. All I knew was Super Mario World was the game.

Yup. Who cares what the hardware looks like or what it does? The games are most important.

Of course it makes no difference. I'm just pointing out that whereas Europe got the same as the SFC design, the US one was glaringly different and IMO pretty terrible looking and makes it stand out.

Well, I'll take getting Chrono Trigger released over having an SFC design. :P

Safiel: If you are talking about the Ti994A, tell him not to bother. 30 minutes to load a game via cassette tape, each and every time. Plus, if you get a glitch, you have to start over! WONDERFUL!....not. I still remember Tunnels & Trolls though. Got me a warball & chain, and thats how I finished the game!

Monumentally crappy system by any standard. Yes, that was my first console. No, wait, that would have been the old Tel-star that you hooked up to your TV to play tennis and such. so it goes:

Tel-star
Ti994A
Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Intellivision
Gamecube

Yes, a rather large period of time whre I owned no consoles. :sd: I had a Commodore 64 and a PC during that time used mostly for games though, so I was still playing.

-Gameboy
-Nintendo 64
-Gameboy Color
-Playstation
-Gameboy Advance
-Nintendo Gamecube
-Gameboy Advance SP
-Playstation 2

As you can tell, I started later than some, and I am widely a Nintendo buyer. ^^;
