Hey everyone,

I'm getting ready to make my first R3TW order (mostly for Touch), and was wondering if stuff from Catalyst and Proware are good...ie are A/V OK (not expecting R2 quality, but at least on par with R1?) and no Chinese hardsubs?

Thanks a bunch!

Proware is good, quality is generally on par with R2 and no hardsubs. Catalyst, not so much. If I recall correctly the video quality of Touch in particular was pretty awful. Though this was only because they most likely couldn't afford better masters to source their DVDs from, not because they're incompetent (their release of Ashita no Joe was just slightly worse than the R2s.)

Agree about Proware, they are good. And many of their releases have DTS whereas the R2Js don't.
Cheaper than R2J, partly because they are not for the Japanese market, & partly because the exchange rate is so favourable with Taiwan.
Done Eva TV in DTS, doing Haruhi & FMP:TSR. Nice boxes as well.

Catalyst are cheap. From LD rather than R2J DVD probably. But a good, & legit, tryout to help decide if you want to upgrade quality.

Just a heads up for R3 fans, JSDVD's "Soon" section lists the first of 8 boxsets for Legend of the Galactic Heroes due out on March 15.

Order it within the next 27 hours and you'll get extras at the price of NT$15,000. After that deadline one will get for NT$16,200 before March 15. After the first volume shipped the list price (although it's not hard to find discounts) will rise to NT$20,250 without extra.

EDIT: Extras are available as long as one preorders before March 15.

NT$15,000 is too much for me, don't think there are any scripts available either. What company is releasing it?

And does anyone know anything about PimGroup's Fancy Lala (http://mall.jsdvd.com/product_info.php?cPath=104_108&products_id=10207) release? Is it from component masters like the R2 or composite ones like the R1? And are the subtitles decent?

They have some other shows like Wolf's Rain, Gravion, Kiddy Grade and Stratos 4 for about $10 each as well, but apart from being disgustingly cheap they're not that interesting as the R1 releases for those are good enough.

Where from? And will they ship internationally?

Where from?
Proware (http://www.prowaremedia.com.tw/shop/product_info.php?cPath=387&products_id=3031) , of course.

And will they ship internationally?
Unfortunately, NO. You have to find online retailers like JSDVD or YesAsia that ship internationally, or through personal friends.

BTW, yesterday a Caucasian at Proware's booth at TIBE was asking for Fullmetal Alchemist movie with English dub...

I guess I'm buying the mass releases and not getting the extras then, since JSDVD probably won't get sets that include them.

Not exactly their target audience, eh?
