I heard that the new firmware update was adding something that was supposed to remove the "jaggedness" of playing PS2 games on HD TVs. Well for me it worked great. My PS2 games look way better in my LCD than they did pre 1.5. If you havn't given it a try take a look. I think you'll be surprised. This don't look awesome or anything but they look way better than they used to. IMO anyway.

Way off my original topic but I figured I just post here rather than starting a new thread.
Anyone know if you can hook up the Guitar Hero Guitar controler to the PS3 with a converter and use it? Or is it not compatible at all?

Yep, a simple firmware update was all it took. Unfortunately for the haters it wasn't as "ZOMG! PS2 games on PS3 will look like NES games forever!" as they may have hoped.

Currently, it is not compatible with the PS3 at all. Or so they claim... :sd: Maybe with yet another converter down the road...

Damn! Guitar Hero is the only reason I leave my PS2 hooked up now. Sony! I demand another firmware update that makes guitar hero controlers compatible with the system.
Do you think they heard me?

They've got eyes and ears everywhere.

Which wouldn't have been a bad thing if it were true; NES games had style. For all the technological advances they've made, 'style' is the forgotten element in game design anymore.
Having said that, I'm pleased to hear of firmware 1.5 because I'm still in the FF13 = BUY NOW camp.

Yeah, PS2 games are back to being the sexy minxes they always were. I'd almost convinced myself that PS2 games always looked as bad as they did initially on the PS3. Pretty much over the moon that they got this sorted.
Now we just need the ability to upscale the games as well, eh, Sony?

Nope, there is an adaptor that will allow the GH controllers to be used. :)

For gamers who want ultimate control when it comes to their PlayStation 3, the Play Adapter for PS3 is the perfect product. Allowing the use of PlayStation 2 accessories with the PlayStation 3, the adapter enables consumers to experience PlayStation 2 titles with Sony's Dual Shock 2 controller. The adapter can also be used to connect your favorite PlayStation 2 accessories to the PlayStation 3, including racing wheels and guitar controllers, expanding the compatibility options of Sony's new console. The Play Adapter for PS3 will have a suggested retail price of $14.99.

Why do you need an adaptor to use a guitar? The ps3 has no regular ps1/2 style controller ports?

No it doesn't and using a regular PS2 to USB converter doesn't work.

Does the PS3 do anti-aliasing on PS2 titles? I know they figured software workarounds for later games on the system (is that right?), but that is half the reason I've never bought a PS2 - going from my beautiful anti-aliased Dreamcast to looking at PS2 in action, it looked like a jagged, ragged mess.
How anyone ever thought those were superior graphics is beyond me. Pop Soul Reaver into the DC and zoom right in on Raziel - now that is a smooth beautiful character design.
Though if the PS3 fixes that little oversight, that would definitely be one more strike in its favor.

sadly, PS2 games look the same as they do on the PS2.

Hell yeah. Soul Reaver's graphics were such an advancement on Dreamcast over the PS1's graphics. In fact, Soul Reaver and Shenmue is the only reason I still have my DC.

From what I read on IGN, this is because you have to press the "Playstation button" before loading up a PS2/1 game. Well, there's no "Playstation button" on the Guitar Hero controller so the console doesn't see it.
Yet another bungle on Sony's part.

Happy b-day Dusto! Well that new Nyko adapter that was linked to ealier will clear that all up. It has a PS2 to USB converter that has a PS button on it so the PS3 will recognize it. I'll pay $15 for that.

Oh ya ya. I should have mentioned that in my post about the Nyko adapter. And thank you for the b-day wishes.

This brings up an interesting question for me. Sony was originally going to have the PS3 emulate the PS2 and PS1 hardware instead of the current hardware solution with actual PS2 and PS1 chips. The reason for emulating was to use the PS3 to give a graphical boost to the older games. Apparently they ran out of time with creating the emulator program before the launch deadline so they went with the hardware solution.
I have heard that eventually there will be a revision of the PS3 that will scrap the hardware solution as part of the usual making the console cheaper and smaller routine. If this happens, would Sony release a firmware patch for the older hardware based solution PS3s to include an emulation program?

Firmware solution would probably be the way for Sony to upgrade the early PS3 batches for the backward compatibility, which is reletivly easy as that it can be either downloaded or included in the future games to automatically upgrade your PS3. Sony already did something similar with the PSP so i don't see a reason why they shouldn't do the same for the PS3.

I don't see another open PS3 thread, so I'll put this here.
I'm not much of a gamer, I'm an American, and I don't have a PS3, but I came across this piece of news which might be of interest to European PS3 owners of the near future:
BBC NEWS: Euro PS3 to play fewer old games (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6390657.stm)
