From Animenation News:
Game News Site EG (http://eg.nttpub.co.jp/news/20070126_20.html) has revealed that Kotetsu Shin Jeeg ("Steel God Jeeg"), a new version of Go Nagai's classic 1975 television series, will premier on the WOWOW television network at 11 PM on April 5th.

Can someone please translate the cast/staff.....many thanks :)
Original Work: Go Nagai
Director: Jun Kawagoe
Story Editor: Tadashi Hayakawa
Writers: Seiji Tonoike, Natsuko Takahashi, Yuuko Kakihara
Character Design / Animation Director: Akira Kikuchi
Mechanical Design: Toshiyuki Horii
Haniwa Genjin Design: Hiroshi Ogawa
Animation Production: Actas
Jun Kawagoe also directed all the Getter Robo OVAs, except the first three episodes of Armageddon which of course were done by a certain "uncredited" director.
Incidentally, Hironobu Kageyama recently announced that JAM Project will be doing the themes to two shows this spring. Lantis is in charge of music for this show, so it's pretty much a lock that one of those two shows is this one. (Gigantic Formula is rumored to be the other one.)
I have to say, so far, of the four giant robot remakes coming out this spring, this is the one I think will turn out best. Jun Kawagoe has a history of at least competent giant robot shows. I have little faith in the announced creative teams for Giant Robo and Reideen, and all I have to do is look at the character designs for Dancougar Nova to know that they're not on the same page I'm on.

Agreed regarding this show (and the kiddish character design for Shini Dancougar :( ) . Plus so far the Go Nagai remake works (at least the Super Robot ones) were pretty decent to excellent IMO. So i have good expectations for this one :)
Now who are the cast ? not that i am expecting any of the originals but i hope that they'll be good ones :sd:

Here's some of the cast:
Daisuke Ono as Kenji Kusanagi
Kana Ueda as Tsubaki Tamaki
Susumu Chiba as Kagami Misumi (Hayami Seiji in Cutey Honey Flash)
I'm guessing none of the original characters are gonna be in it?

Oh, whoops, didn't even see that part of the page.
Kenji Kusanagi: Daisuke Ono
Tsubaki Tamashiro: Kana Ueda
Kyou Misumi: Susumu Chiba
The cast list posted to ANN misspells the character names, which is odd because the announcement actually provides the proper spelling for them.

Thanks regz91 & Rando for the info :) i wonder though if Hiroshi Shiba will be in the story or this one is a complete remake with different characters and so (which seems to be). Well i surly can't wait to watch the show....CHANEL SET ! :)

Have you seen the trailers for Reideen? In my opinion it doesn't look, and definitely doesn't sound (it's Ike Yoshihiro after all), half bad.

More details
Title: Kotetsushin Zieg
is a Japanese animated television series and sequel to the 1975 Super Robot series Steel Jeeg, created by Go Nagai. It is directed by Jun Kawagoe (previously known for New Getter Robo and Innocent Venus). The show is slated to air on the satellite network WOWOW beginning on April 5, 2007 at 11:30 PM JST.
Press material describes the show as "A simple tale of 'Good versus Evil' while at the same time a robot anime created for the sake of the [b]adult core audience (yay no kiddish crap...hopfully :sd: )."
Plot
The story of Kotetsushin Jeeg takes place fifty years after the original and features a new cast of characters—primarily the new main character Kenji Kusanagi (voiced by Daisuke Ono), a high school student who becomes Kotetsushin Jeeg to fight the sudden reappearance of Haniwa "genjin" ("Phantom Gods," or clay robots) from the Jamatai Kingdom ruled by Queen Himika. Other characters include Tsubaki Tamashiro (voiced by Kana Ueda) and Kyō Misumi (voiced by Susumu Chiba). New versions of the Build Base (commanded by Senjirō Shiba, whose relation to Steel Jeeg's "Machine Father" is unknown) and Big Shooter will also appear.
No further details have been disclosed.

God, I wish. There's a serious case of "They're not just like the originals! Waaaaaaah!" going around.

Not to stray form the subject. But as you may have noticed that the character design for Kotetsushin Zieg is way different from the original one and yet many (including myself) are very glad for news and are eagerly waiting for the series to start. The same thing was for me for all the Mazinkaizer & Shin Getter Robo OVAs where the character design is different from the original.
The case Dancougar Nova is that many of the mecha & Dancougar fans are not happy with the character design for the new series. That doesn't mean that's a "waaaaaaaah i want the same original character design back" (at least for me), but rather there could have been a better one for it. Like when i keep wondering how would have the Shin Getter Robo OVAs might have been if Akira Kamiya played Ryoma instead of Hideo Ishikawa :>
However, what's done is done and nothing we can do about it.
On the a bright side to Dancougar Nova, Masami Obari is directing the show and doing the mecha design. Also, both Norio Wakamoto & Kazuki Yao are returning for the show with different characters as a tribute to the original series :)
While Wakamoto's character is a new one "Will", it remains to be seen if Yao's "F.S" is the same Fujiwara Shinubo or not.
" CHANNEL SET" & " MAXIMUM LEVEL SHOOOOOOT" ! ;)

I changed the topic's name a bit since i wanted to post those, and have an intelligent discussion about the show:

Dancouga Nova ED (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkvObtjx1jY)
The OP is a kick-ass :) i wonder which characters are F.S & Will (if they are in the OP/ED).

And you honestly call that an intelligent discussion ? by stating that those who don't agree with your opinion are idiots ???
I am not a mod. here so it's not my place to offer any advice or so, but i believe that it's better to state an opinion without disrespecting others.
Beside they're both Super Robot shows !, and Dacouga was already discussed so let's save Chris some bandwidth :)

No, I said that people who prejudged the characters based on just their designs ended up having no clue what they are talking about.
And what do you mean "dancouga was already discussed"? How do you "Already Discuss" an ongoing series?
Oh, and "saving Chris some bandwidth" is just silly.

According to the official JAM Project website, Jeeg is the massive project that several of the JAM members have been hinting at in their blogs. Not only does it feature Ricardo Cruz, the Brazilian fan member who appeared in the song "GONG", but it also features the return of Ichirou Mizuki as well. (Mizuki sang the original theme song to Koutetsu Jeeg.) With 8 JAM Project members participating, this is definitely a song to look forward to.
The other new JAM Project OP is the new Saint Beast series. This song will be featuring Hiroshi Kitadani. The Gigantic Formula OP will actually be done by Minami Kuribayashi instead.

Cool, some old faces. Damn, Michiru hasn't aged well. Himika looks great. Looks less like Sister Jill, Thank God.
Why is Seijiro (Hiroshi's Dad) there? SPOILER
Didn't he die in the last episode of Jeegu?

Poor Michiru... but Himika seems to buy her clothes from Hot Topic now :P

I admit that I didn't see the end of Jeeg(the Spanish version didn't run thru the entire series) but didn't Seijiro Die in Ep 1, and his mind passed to the base computer?

Her name is Miwa Uzuki (or Michi as Hiroshi calls her) actually, Michiru is the female character from Getter Robo, but since they kinda look a like and even voiced by the same seiyuu (Rihoko Yoshida) it's easy to mix them up :)
As for Shiba Senjirou ?
yes he was a computer program and died at the end of the show. I wonder how did they bring him back ? I hope that's not Hiroshi :sd:
Rando
04-06-2007, 03:01 PM
Ah, my mistake. Can't believe I mixed them up. (I actually forgot they both had same seiyuu)
It's not Hiroshi, it even has Seijro's name next to it.
So are we gonna see an old man Don, as well as Shorty and Mayumi as adults?

I watched and OP & few clips from the first Eps. As i said before, Go Nagai's remakes are the best ! :)
1 thing about the OP
There is a mysterious character in the OP. He might be Hiroshi ! well since he is a cyborg it's very likely that he is still young, or at least didn't age much ;)

Watching the first episode. Pretty good stuff. Not too thrilled about the opening or the 3-D mixed in.
Looks like there's gonna be alot of cameos in this one. (Typical for a Go Nagai series) Already saw some characters from Harenchi Gakuen, Kabuto Kouji, and Pokoidaa,
Oh, and Kisaragi Kenji? Does this mean a possible crossover? (Jeegu and Cutie Honey do have their similarities...)

Just watched the 1st episode. Like in Mazinkaiser the character designs harken back to the 1970's, which, when done properly, can have pleasant results, and they pulled it off here, or at least in the first episode. I hope they maintain this level of quality throughout all the series.
Now, what I wish is:
1-For it to be licensed ASAP by an R1 company. Hopefully, ADV ;)
2-For Gô Nagai and Dynamic to get off their collective asses and produce a remake of UFO Robo Grendizer!
PS: Only thing I miss is the original theme song as sung by Ichirô Mizuki.

Many thanks to my friend Shin Ryoma for providing some more insights about the series (Please be aware of a minor spoiler). For those who don't wish to read the below, basically this is a semi-sequel semi remake:
The staff retconned (to use a comics term) the second half of the original series, which basically never happened.
Hiroshi Shiba's father never dies in this version, and it's shown as still alive in the future, although not in a very good shape.
Regarding the change in the original story basically:
- Jeeg failed to keep up with all Himika's minions (you see him struggling to stay up with Antares) so he used the bell power to extract "something" (seems a sword) from a volcano that enshrouded a whole Japan island with fog-like barrier. He's being MIA (Missing in Action) since then (or so it seems).
- Several have tried to pass the barrier but never returned. It is constantly monitored.

So it's basically like New Cutey Honey-type of sequel?

I watched Kotetsushin Jeeg with minimal expectations as this is the kind of show I don't usually watch and ended up being somewhat entertained. It had a very fun likable cast and it was hard to dislike this show. Haven't seen the original but the references were nice.
Still couldn't help feeling that I might have liked it more if not for the following issues:
(1)While it was a nice and somewhat conclusive ending, I felt that the last 2 episodes seem riddled with plot holes and too much deus ex machina with lots of characters suddenly being able to do things "just like that" without any prior buildup or explaination.
(2)How about some character development for the baddies? They were nothing more than one-dimensional villains mumbling about power and destroying humans.
(3)As this is by Go Nagai, I would have expected a ton of gratuitous nudity. C'mon - Go Nagai basically made lechery and perversion an art form and for the show not to be dripping in ecchiness is just lame.
(4)I was hoping that this would be as campy and cheesy G Gundam or Sousei no Aquarion and unfortunately, my expectations were not met.

Oh come on. The show was INCREDIBLY dirty. Just because it doesn't show nipples in EVERY EVEN REMOTELY CONCIEVABLE OCCASION doesn't mean its not incredibly ecchi and perverted.
I find it somewhat bizarre that you seem to think any fanservice, nudity or ANYTHING that doesn't explcitly show the naughty bits is lacking is just...odd.

I finished watching today and it all AWESOME!!!
I know that I got more of an advantage as I've seen some of the original series as "El Vengador (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsim9ST5Zzg)" in "El Festival de los Robots (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32u8iTUuFrk)" althought they only did 18 eps from the 1st half of the series (so we didn't see the Robot horse) and I loved every second of this version.
It was very nice that except for the comic relief characters everybody was bought back, the bad guys as bad as ever and Queen Himika dropped her tunic to wear that Dragon Bikini :virgin: , I liked the interaction of the 3 main characters (Kenji, Tsubaki and Kyou) and the return of Prof. Shiba (now alive instead of his brain put into the Build Base Computer), his family, who were a integral part of the show; Miwa who even 50 years older has great poise and class, althought the revelation that the Jamadai Empire came from Outer Space threw me for a loop, but it as fun.
PS: the 2nd half of episode 12 is made of PURE UNADULTERATED CLASSIC GIANT ROBOT WIN!!!!!
and to Piano...
1-Well, I didn't see any plot holes, maybe it was because I was holding my breath most of the time for those 2 eps.
2-Being frozen for 50 years will put any evil overlord in that mood.
3-As basically the only source of fan service in the original series was Miwa's pilot uniform. this one has it's fanservice in Kenji's dreams :P alongside Tsubaki and the Build Angels.
4-This show is just what was promised a Giant Robot show for Adults and it did it awesomely. fans of Kotetsu Jeeg won't be dissapointed.
