This thread is about the Musou games. They are known outside of Asia as Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors.
I have been playing these for a while, and I wanted to gauge this board's interest in the series and hopefully start a discussion. What are your favorite characters and games? What additions or changes should be made to the future games of the series to keep it from going stale? What do you think of the upcoming Musou Orochi (DW/SW crossover) or Gundam Musou?

To be honest, I've only briefly played the Dynasty Warriors series on the PSone. I loved the first game but didn't enjoy it all that much when it changed for future games.
Having said that, I do enjoy epic hack and slash games like this - Basara added a nice tongue in cheek element to the genre and N3 was enjoyable enough.
I've always meant to check out that PS2 game which claimed thousands of enemies on screen at one time but can't remember its name :sd:
I am really looking forward to Gundam Musou though and I'll be buying Musou Orochi on PS2 and Bladestorm on PS3 when they are released.

The game you are thinking of is called Ikusa Gami. It was supposed to be released in he US as Demon Chaos. Looks like it still might make it in the UK according to Amazon UK.
I'm looking forward to the SW/DW crossover game. Koei should step it up a bit though, the Sengoku Basara games are now more fun.
Not much of a Gundam fan anymore but I like the musou idea. I'll probably get the PS3 game.

Yeah, that's it. Cheers.
That UK release has been rumoured for ages and is apparently happening in March. I'd believe it too as we do tend to get quite a few lesser known stuff like this, Shinobido PS2/PSP and so on over here from time to time.

Dynasty Warriors are fun games. I've owned all of them except DW2 and 1. I haven't played Samurai Warriors 2 but the first one was fun except those crappy castle levels. Both Orochi and Gundam Musou look fun. Thanks to DW, Romance of the Three Kingdoms has become one of my favorite novels to read and the games are fun as well.

Shin Sangoku Musou (DW) got me interested in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms books, anime, etc. as well. Likewise, Sengoku Musou (SW) inspired me to read about the Warring States era.
My favorite characters in DW are, from Shu, Zhuge Liang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhuge_Liang), Yue Ying (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huang_Yueying), and Zhao Yun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhao_Yun); from Wu, Taishi Ci (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taishi_Ci), Sun Ce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Ce), and Gan Ning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gan_Ning); and from Wei, Cao Cao (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cao_Cao), Xu Huang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xu_Huang), and Cao Pi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cao_Pi).
Favorites in SW are Nobunaga Oda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oda_Nobunaga), Tadakatsu Honda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Tadakatsu), and Kenshin Uesugi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uesugi_Kenshin) and Hanzou Hattori (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hattori_Hanzo).

I've played all of them, and the Dynasty Tactics series, and Kessen III, and ROTKs 7-10. I need a new ROTK to come out, dammit! Hopefully one like 9.

Heh, ROTK:11's release date is today. I had just found that out a week or two ago and I'll try and get the game as soon as possible.

Are you serious? I've checked semi-recently and couldn't find anything out about it.
Based on some screenshots, it looks a lot like IX, which was the best in the series, so I'm really excited.

Thats what EB and a couple of other US websites I've checked say, but equally a lot of other places don't have it listed at all.

I love Dynasty Warriors games, I haven't played Samurai Warriors yet. I might pick it up once I get back home.
My favorite character, just look at my name ;) . There is something awesome about kicking ass with a flute while wearing a dress and a high heels.

Yup, I mentioned somewhere else on here that that trailer has me so hyped for the game. Ridge 7 was the "testing the water" game for the Japanese but with VF5 and this the floodgates should well and truly open.
Roll on 1st March! :D

Dear Gundam Musou,
Please be awesome and don't suck. Give me something to look forward to in 2012.*

Man, I'm not sure where to post anymore. Every time I come to this forum, someone starts a new thread on 1 game even though we have a general news thread.... ah well. :sigh:

Naw dude, it's cool, I was more the one making the mistake as it should've been posted here in the game-specific thread.

Sooooooo...quick question, what's the point of having a generic news thread if there's going to be a new specific game thread opened up? ;p

Well mainly because having a separate thread for every game news is posted about would needlessly clutter the forum. It's better to keep specific threads to big name/popular games as it frees the general news thread up. Case in point - if me and Digi and the couple others commenting in the idolmaster thread had put those posts in the general news thread it would be a bit silly.

There tends to be very few game specific threads started up, and certainly it seems pointless to start one for a game thats many months off with no prequels.
I think the general rule is that, if someone really wants to, no-one is going to complain about someone starting up a thread on a particular game or series. Otherwise, it just reduces clutter posting news that'll only generate a couple of comments in a single thread, not to mention all the review scores and sales charts and the like.

None of the stores around here have ROTK XI yet! They say tomorrow!

Okay, I had a good cry and then managed to pick up ROTK XI yesterday, on my birthday. I've played it for a few hours and it's my favorite ROTK so far. IX was before, and XI is a lot like it except better. They've made a lot of improvements and removed some annoying things from IX, like the inability to tell your units to go to a spot on the map rather than an actual location. They also made the combat turn-based rather than no-control real-time, which I think is a plus.
