View Full Version : R3 Please Save My Earth
I'm thinking of picking up the R3 Please Save My Earth set for the music videos, but I was curious if anyone out there would be able to give me an idea how good the video quality is; especially compared to the R1 release. I find the R1's video to be a mixed-bag where it looks decent in spots and filled with cross-coloration in others. If the R3 has improved video over the R1, that will likely be the extra push I need to finally order it.
TIA!

I have the R3 set, but unfortunately, I haven't seen the R1 disc. The picture quality of the R3 version is pretty average. I did notice a lot of "rainbowing". The DVDs looked only slightly better than the Japanese LDs to me. However, you do get English subtitles for the six OVAs (but not for the movie or the music videos) and a very nice box. The R3's packaging is top-notch.
Edit: Like the R3 GE999 movies, I'm not sure about the legality of this box. I have a strong suspicion that they just ripped off Viz's subtitles. But I could be wrong.

It has the movie and music videos? Score!
Thanks for the info. It sounds like the video is similar to the R1, as it has rainbowing as well. Do you know what the total running time of the music videos is?

The Music Image Video is approx. 30 mins. It's kind of like Please Save My Earth's Macross Flash Back 2012. It features some very nice Yoko Kanno songs (performed by "Gabriela Robin" or Akino Arai), a little dialogue, and some new animation here and there. Mokuren's childhood is the subject of one of the videos, there's a nice video about the previous lives of the two guys (when one was a woman; can't seem to remember their names now), the aftermath of the battle at Tokyo Tower is shown, and there's a moving bit at the end with Mokuren and Shion.
Thanks again, ZenAmako, I think you've just about pushed me over the edge. :)
I watched the Mokuren video on YouTube and liked it quite a bit. I like the soundtrack a lot too, so I think the DVD set will be worth it just for those music videos; 30 mins. is longer than I had expected for them.

Anyone have the R2 PSME box and can comment or post screens of the quality of that?
