Not sure if there's interest in this, but I figured I'd start a thread and see. I just finished MGS3 for the first time, so the series in general is on my mind quite a bit at the moment.
So... Feel free to discuss anything you like regarding this series. Please mark any plot spoilers for Portable Ops :sd:

Question: Am I the only one who bought the Digital Graphic Novel for the PSP? It's actually really good.

No, a few of my friends bought it and it's very recommended in their opinion.
Unfortunately, I still don't own a PSP. However, when I finally get one. Doth MGS: Portable Ops and MGS: Digital GN are on my "to get" list.

I should probably pick that up. I loved how the cut scenes in Portable Ops were done so I think I'd enjoy it.

MGS is my 2nd favorite game series (After Super Robot Taisen) :) i've been playing it since the first MSX game back in 1987.
To be honest, the main reason that i bought a PSP (i prefer the NDS much more) is that both MGS DN & Portable Ops were released on them. Actually i bought the Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Premium Pack (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9e-49-en-15-metal%2Bgear-70-1oqh-43-99.html) that comes with a PSP Camouflage + few goodies :)
Bah, I was just going to check if anything was new and I get sucked in with a MGS discussion thread  . I knew of MGS and knew who Snake was for a while but I had never played a Metal Gear Solid game in my life. That changed when I was looking for something at EBGames one day and bought the recently released Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. I took it home and loved the single player story, the music, the characters, and the game itself. I even loved the online mode which I don't play that much anymore.
Then of course I went out and picked up Sons of Liberty(MGS 2), MGS(for the PS), and Twin Snakes all for the PS2. So I'm into the MGS "universe" if you will heh. I can't wait for 4 to come out and to see how Kojima wraps up the story.

I saw a friend's copy of the DGN the other day. Actually, I'd just looked through the regular graphic novel at a comic book store the previous day, and (of course) the DGN is the same but with some pseudo-animation. Honestly, I'm not a great fan of the art style - I think it works for promotional art, but it looks too vague to be used to tell a story. But if I was to get it, I'd probably rather have it in book form to browse through normally.
Not that I even have a PSP to possibly get it for ^^; But I'm strongly considering it because I really want Portable Ops. I just finished playing MGS3 for the first time (I got into the series pretty recently - only played 1 and 2 last summer) and was very impressed by pretty much every aspect of it, especially the ending, and I really want to see what happens next in the story of Big Boss.
Currently I'm getting my fix by playing the original Metal Gear, included on disc 2 of Subsistence (which was the reason I got Subsistence rather than the slightly cheaper original release of MGS3). It's a very addictive game - suprisingly similar in gameplay to the original MGS, although much more rudimentary. My only annoyance it at how (a) none of the doors are numbered and (b) the higher-numbered card keys don't open the lower-numbered doors. For all the backtracking you have to do, it's annoying to have to try every card if I can't remember which key goes with a door.
Question for those familiar with it: I accidentally killed a hostage (actually, a fake hostage) in building 2 and then saved it, so my star ranking has gone down from 4 to 3. Will this impede my progress in the game? Presumably this decreases my possible maximum ranking by 1, which will make the game slightly harder, but will it matter apart from that?

-_- As I suspected, I seem to have reached a point where I can't progress without a four-star ranking. Checking a guide reveals that the person who will give me the weapon necessary to defeat the next boss will only reply to my codec messages if I have a four star ranking. Is there really no alternative to starting the whole game over again?
