Wow, talk about a pretty boring issue. Still, though, I wanted to see both Le Chevalier d'Eon and Peach Girl so at least the sampler DVD is worth something. :D

I assume that this is part of a bigger article, right? Maybe a Spring/Summer preview or something?

It's not labeled as such, nor separated in any noticeable way from the preceding "features".

cover - Nono from Gunbuster 2
I hardly ever buy Newtype USA, but that cover is almost enough to make an exception. :virgin:
I think that this issuie would have been better if ADV offered Dub and Subs for the DVD episodes. Since there's a Kurau Article in this month's issuie, I'm very interested to see what they have to say about the show.

We usually do (when and where possible). Unfortunately we were unable to do that for this issue. But subs'll be back next month.

Am I the only one that noticed a Madlax thinpack shown in an ad near the end?

Nope! :D
Page 95...
Noticed something else about that ad:
It's Madlax- The Com lete Collection
The "P" is missing in the word "Complete" on both the front & spine of the thinpak box...LOL

I just found it interesting since it hasn't been solicited or officially announced yet. A number of people have been wondering about it but not a sinlge person has mentioned it being in that ad.

Does the Madlax ad list a release date of any kind?

Since the ad is emblazened with the title
"Get Ready For March Madness"
one might think that all the thinpaks shown are available for sale in March.
I'm one who wants to get the Madlax thinpak,
but I haven't come across anyone listing it yet.
Since the last single DVD release (Vol. 7) was last March 28, an announcement for the thinpak should probably be very soon.
Though, because of that graphic error (the missing "P") :D , I might guess that someone jumped the gun by placing Madlax in that ad a little too early...

Yeah, it just says March madness. Some of the sets have been out for a month or two already (FMP: Fumoffu, Elfen Lied) while others I haven't seen yet (Samurai Gun, Yumeria, Area 88).
On another note, I now have even less reason to buy NewType than I already did. I was quite disappointed with their complete disregard for spoilers (and warning about them) in the Gunbuster articles. I haven't seen Gunbuster 2 at all and it mentions that something that I probably wouldn't even pay attention to has some sort of secret. But its even worse for the original Gunbuster. That one, at least, I already saw years ago, and I remembered the ending damn well. But if I hadn't seen it, a certain aspect of the ending would have been pretty obvious after reading the article. And whiile I remembered the ending, I didn't remember much about what happened in between. NewType made sure to spoil several things such as a character death (and how it happens) and that certain characters marry each other (and they even say its a real shock when it happens... if you hadn't read their article beforehand).

Those of you who subscribed - how do you know which issue your subscription will start with? Thinking about subscribing as it's a devil to find the mag in the UK. Tried emailing the subs dept, but they haven't replied yet (only 48 hours, so there's a chance yet)

In my case, by memory. My subscription renewals always start in January, and I've been a subscriber for the last two years.

Thanks. I'm hoping that if I subscribe this week, the sub will begin with the April issue (no.4 of whatever volume this is?) but would be happy with the March issue!

Another dumb question - do subscription copies arrive in clear-plastic, or a proper envelope?

It should be clear plastic just like the way they're sold on the newstands.

Yup. It's clear plastic.

For US subscribers, most US magazines start 6-8 weeks after the subscription is initiated. However, I am not sure how that "hop across the pond" will affect the timing in your case. Both in terms of when you'll start getting them and when you receive them relative to when everyone else gets theirs. As it is, based on the timing of this thread every month, us folks here on the west coast get ours 2-3 days after the people back east do.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Maybe placing Madlax in that ad was a mistake on their part. The Gilgamesh thinpak is due to come out this May so perhaphs it was suppose to be that series instead of Madlax that was to be displayed on the ad. Chris just posted ADV's new solicitations and the Madlax thinpak was not on the list so at this time we don't know when the Madlax thinpak will come out.

You don't have to search for it, just ask you local comic store to order it for you. I was the first to ask for it at mine and now they have several orders in.

Well I'm a regular at my local, Nostalgia & Comics, here in Brum, but they have great trouble getting Newtype - they regularly seem to get the Japanese version instead. I didn't manage to get to them for a couple of months and when I went in to collect my standing orders I found 3 Japanese Newtypes, and no American issues. I've been picking it up in the local Borders when they have it, but it costs £10.50, rather than 8.50 in a comics shop.
So I've bit the bullet and subscribed - worked out at £78 for 12 issues, which is 6.50 an issue.
