Hair Color: Oh man, I have no idea. It doesn't really matter much to me, so I went with something neutral, brown.

How Old: I like them all ways, though I suppose it depends a lot on just how we're 'liking' them :sd: There are shitloads of fantastic young characters who would be called 'loli'. There's almost nothing in this world more awesome than a little girl kicking asses. But if we're talking, uh, *other* kinds of like, then gimmie my high schoolers. Not because I'm hot for 15 year olds, but because they almost always look a good bit older which puts them right where they need to be. And as I've always said, the mantra I live and die by is "age in anime is utterly meaningless, it's all about how they look". There's always room for a good milf of course (Akiko~ Mizuho~) but overall I'll vote highschoolers.

Character Traits: I went with moe and kicks ass and takes names. If they manage to mix both, them I'm frickin' hooked. I'm not interested in arguing about definitions of moe, btw, so don't bother. If it were available, I'd totally have thrown 'tsundere' in there. But all these traits need to mix around in a diverse stew with some of the others to attain full deliciousness. Why is Haruhi so awesome? Because her personality is diverse and fascinating, that's why.

Important Part: Ah man, this depends entirely on the character type and artist. Sometimes it's definitely boobs, sometimes face, hair can play a big part as well. But in the end I went with legs, primarily because that's where you can have thighhighs and leg ribbons, the best things EVAR. And, of course, zettai ryouiki. Sometimes legs don't matter much, but other times they definitely do. Mmm, Stellvia.

Visually, if you've seen Black Jack (I’m assuming that Osamu Dezaki’s other stuff looks like this) or stuff by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, I like women to look like that...

Detailed line-art, mature presence, sophisticated look... it's really great.

Attitude-wise... I'm actually fond of girls like Ran from Super Gals! since she goes around handing everyone their ass.

In fact, it could be anything, as long as she goes around kicking ass.

But then, I’m kind of a sucker for the super-cute types as well (or designs that give you that “Moe” feeling or however the hell I’m supposed to use the word properly).

… yeah, I think those two extremes are my favorite.

Hmm, interesting. I went with black hair because I'm not a huge fan of the usual anime hair colors we get(not to mention straight, shoulder length black hair is hot :virgin: ). Anime is the one medium where people have blue, red, purple and whatever hair. It bugs me sometimes but if they work it in like in FMP with Kaname, it's fine. As for personality, it depends really. I find myself liking females like Urd from AMG, Haruka from Hime, Arcueid from Tsukihime, Ryoko from Tenchi, Tanabe from Planetes, and even Jura from Vandread.

As for the whole question of age, I'm not a huge loli fan. I know it is kind of the "in thing" at the moment but I'll take the female characters I mentioned above over someone like Sakura from CCS. So I guess you could put me in the "milf" catagory but I'd put myself more into the "healthy girl/woman" catagory. There is nothing wrong with being a fan of Urd :virgin: . As for the body part it depends really. I noticed that most of the character I mentioned(sorry Tanabe) show a lot of leg, so I put that. Haruka has stockings and a school uniform, Urd shows a lot of leg, Ryoko does as well, and even Jura does. In the end though I'm not sure if you can categorize my "taste in character" as it really depends on the personality for me. Urd wouldn't be Urd without her snarky personality, the same goes for Haruka.

I said the exact same thing to a friend just recently.

I mean, what are the distinguishing features of any anime character above the shoulders? Hair and eyes. Both have their own entries. How in hell is face getting votes, let alone winning? :sd: About the only other thing related to the head that one could notice is the nose, and that's only when it's huge and pointy like in Esca and Marimite =P

Well, the eyes are part of the face. If the choice had been for "face with the eyes gouged out" well...ewww...I doubt that many of us would have chosen that.
And the hair defines and shapes the face. And faces do have different shapes, at least some of them do.
And then there are the nose and lips, and possibly beauty marks or other distinguishing features.

As you might guess, I chose "face." :P
As is often the case in these polls we are really defining the options as much as we are selecting them.

I will not list my other choices, but when I was done I had described Kinomoto Sakura-chan. :D

Preferred Anime Girl: Since the majority of the anime DVDs that I own have them, it's definitely the high-school girls that I like to watch.

Character Trait: I love the quiet types (read: Nodoka Miyazaki :P ).

Most Important Body Part: Definitely the eyes, baby! There's something magical about looking into a cute girl's eyes. :virgin:

Age--This one isn't fair. 70% of anime characters are high schoolers and 25% are lolis. The other two types make up such a small percentage they don't stand a chance. College girls are especially rare (outside of hentai where all of the women are "college girls" ;) )since a women out of high school is considered either a MILF or an old hag.

Type--Can't really decide here too. I like all those types except the "kicks ass" type.

Feature--No question here. The eyes are most important.

I could think of a girl I like with just about all the hair colors listed, but I had go with black because my favorite anime girl currently is Eluluu from Utawarerumono.

Eluluu, good choice. There is something really attractive about her, maybe its the noise she makes when she gets embarrased.

I love that sound she makes. I also love the face she makes in episode 1 when Hakuoro grabs her tail and she has this look on her face that's embarrased at first, but then skinsk into an expression like "Oh yeah, that feels nice..." :D

With hair color, I have no strong preferences. There's all different kinds of hair colors among my favorite characters. There's several great blonde anime characters, though, so I'll go with that (also since I have a special interest in the blonde twintailed style)

Age is definitely high-school preferred. There are a lot of factors there I find appealing, and they tend to have an interesting variety of personalities. They're are lots of lolis in anime I like too. Don't like them in er... that kind of way... but there are some great personalities there too.

As far as personality goes: MULTIPLE! I find these types, like Misao Amano and Kozue Aoba very intriguing. In general, I don't really know in this category - I went with moe and clumsy to cover a few of my favorites, but those can also be factors that degrade a character in my eyes too (so it really depends...)

Body part definitely seems to be hair for me. It's a very important part of the character design IMO and when character's change style it's definitely something that's quite noticeable for me.

Hair: black (It's the most consistent for me, since for all the other colors there are times they've worked and times they haven't done much at all. I too lament the lack of white/silver as a choice, though.)

Age: high schooler (IRL, it'd be sorority at least, but for some reason anime has this pesky way of bumping up maturity levels, appearance, etc., making high-school girls seem to fit right into my age range, and anyone in their late teens into the twenties comes across as being in their thirties or forties. Anyway, the high schoolers are the ones always getting to wear the great outfits and save the world using magic, giant robots, or both, so...)

Character traits: aggressive, quiet (Not even extreme tsundere can reconcile those two! It's an either-or, obviously, and while I can't say I've got anything against the other choices it's these two I always end up liking in the harem situations, so I guess that's as indicative as anything.)

Most important body part: legs (I'm a leg person, always have been, always will be. Since it all generally levels out in anime anyway, unless the character is supposed to be intentionally ugly, I'm thinking of the part that really works for me when working above and beyond the call of duty. Been stuck on MADLAX for a while now, incidentally.)

I like my anime girls in the sorority range, but perhaps only because I couldn't bring myself to select "milf." :sweatdrop:

I like them to be quiet for the most part, but to be able to kick some tail and take names when the situation calls for it.

Favorite body part: hmmm, I guess I will have to choose hair. Most of the other selections have decent representation in real life, but good anime hair just isn't to be found.

I defined the face as encompassing everything below the hairline (not the bangs/hair) to the chin, and from ear to ear. For me this also includes the eyes and the shape and flow of the hair. How the hair falls in the face, and may obscure or hide part of the face. Ultimately, though, the face is the only part of the body of an anime character that shows any actual personality, and this is the most important part of liking (or disliking) any anime character.

Thinking of the characters on my top 20 list (all female), I have to say that it's almost always because of the personality, and always how they show it on their face. The exception that proves the rule for me is my #1 pick, but that's only because her usual lack of expressing her character on her face makes her SO fascinating.

So, I forget what the other categories are...

Hair color: Blue if good, although I'll also accept brown, purple and black, with green as a sometimes substitute, if the character is right.

Hair length: Anything that is not a male's cut. Most of my favorites have longer hair, but by top pick actually has a hair style named after herself. I also like longer hair to fall into the face, hiding one of the character's eyes. It's more mysterious that way, but not a requirement.

Personality: I like the quiet and kicks ass types. I specifically like those two combined into the same personality, and my top two choices almost define the combination.

Age: Again, this is hard to define. In one series, a 14 year old will be as mature as a 18 year old in another, although 12 year olds are almost always depicted as too young. I'd say that I like the the characters that show some serious maturity, regardless of their age. This is in both personality and physical appearance. While nothing is more awesome than a loli that kicks serious butt, I prefer my loli-appearing characters to be something akin to a vampire, thus are much, much more mature than they appear. Like Miyu or Evangeline. I'll also go to the milf-like category, although the only actual milfs that that come to mind are Julia (GTO) and Mrs. Motoboshi (Urusei Yatsura). Although I'll let Misato Katsuragi and Mizuho Kazami-sensei into this category, even thought they aren't actual mothers.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter, though, as I'm as attracted to their personality and maturity as I am to their physical appearance. Without an interesting personality, there is no amount of physical beauty that can make up for it.

I seem to prefer blue-haired characters the most (doesn't matter how dark the dye). Purple and pink work rather well for me too, which leads me to blame two of the lead characters from Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Anyway, I like the aggressive, kick-ass types. Anyone with even a hint of milquetoast gets nothing from me, unless they're proven to be inwardly stronger than others in the cast (the only example I can think to cite is Negima!'s Nodoka). Otherwise, I usually go for the confident types. They don't have to be ultra-cool charmers or badasses, though some elements that make up those kinds of characters can be helpful. Proficiency with some kind of skill-based, non-magical/mystical weapon adds always seem to win points with me.

There are too many barely legal anime babes around, which can get annoying/frustrating. As in real life, a character's face is the lead-in (eyes and hair especially), than things like thighs, neck (from the back), etc., as much as one can appreciate those things animated.

That's right. There's no reason to assume dye.

After all, at the Anime Genetics Research Division, they've been working for years on ways to alter the DNA of anime characters to produce all sorts of enhancements to physical characterists.

Of course, there have been interesting side effects, such as pink haired characters developing larger than average busts, but there haven't been any complaints.

So, let us take a moment to salute the unheralded geniuses who make anime characters look the way they do. To the anime geneticists!

Although not really considered one of my top-tier favorite characters, Ana Coppola (Strawberry Marshmallow) is the only character that I can think of that contains all of these qualities.

Some female characters that I'm currently quite fond of at the moment include:

Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga (Azumanga Daioh) - My role model.
Greta (Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy) - I'm not sure of the term that would be used to describe her personality type, but so far I think she would be my favorite character that would fit into that descripition. She's rich, slightly spoiled but in the end, she actually has a really good heart.
Iroha Minamoto (Sumomomo Momomo) - Blond, looks like a loli, often acts moe but at the same time, won't hesitate to beat someone up for being an idiot. She's one of the main reasons why I'm still watching the show right now.
Lucy (Elfen Lied) - My favorite serial killer. :smile:
Miyako (Hidamari Sketch) - The only of the above qualities that she fits into is that she's blond. Surprisingly, I like her other qualities even though they're almost the opposite of what I usually prefer.
Rika Furude (When They Cry - Higurashi) - Loli and extremely cute. :catgirl: Besides those highly important traits, she also was an extremely interesting and fascinating character throughout the entire show.
Sakura Kinomoto (Cardcaptor Sakura) - Almost the embodiment of perfection in my eyes.

It's funny, seeing Ana in the promo art for Strawberry Marshmallow was one of the things that made me get interested in the show, but before I even finished watching the series, Matsuri was the one who stole my heart. :P :D

Like Nobue, I'm also in the difficult predicament of deciding which of the two I like better or think is the cutest. While I feel that I probably like Matsuri's personality slightly more, Ana makes up for it in terms of looks. They definitely make a great pair and complement each other very well. I don't think I would like the show nearly as much if either of them were missing. And the OVA's definitely need to be licensed as soon as possible. While I wait for that, I'll be collecting and reading the manga, which I've recently just started doing.

Hair colour: I went with black, because it doesn't really matter to me what hair colour a girl has in an anime, and black was a more normal hair colour. Though I must say it was a little tempting to pick pink.

Age: High schoolers, mainly because I watch alot of anime where the girls are in high school, or are around that age. I myself am also in high school, so maybe that's another reason why. =\

Character traits: Definitely the quiet types, usually accompanied with the "cute" character trait. This mainly goes by my own tastes in girls. :P Aya Tojo from Ichigo 100% & Nodoka from Negima! come into mind.

My 2nd choice would actually be the aggressive type as well, seeing as I enjoy watching them attempt to get their man. Pity that the aggressive type doesn't tend to actually get their man in the end, at least in the titles that I've watched. Some of my favourites in this case are Satsuki Kitaoji from Ichigo 100% & Pricilla from Gun X Sword, to an extent.

Though I don't often see any girls with these 2 traits mixed together, since they're almost opposites to each other, which is a shame.

body part: In most cases, this also doesn't matter to me. As much as I don't mind breasts (I usually don't care how nice a girl's butt is), I voted for legs, if only because of thigh-highs. I just can't resist those thigh-highs. :sd:

Character Trait: I love the quiet types (read: Nodoka Miyazaki ).
