We've all seen the yearly "report" that shows what the most popular franchises are in the US and R1 market. Things like GITS SAC, FMA, and other popular franchises are on that list due to DVD sales and so on. But taking some time to look at the list, I wondered what it would be from a fans perspective. So I decided to make three lists of five franchises each. They'll be broken down into "Top Current Franchises", "Top "older" Franchises, and "Top future franchises. This is prodominantley from a personal point of view and there are no real right or wrong answers. I tried not to rank mine by fandom and more of a general overview of what franchises are seemingly at the top of their game. I don't like most of the "top current franchises" in my chart but you can't leave them out.
When I say current I mean series that are rolling along currently and still being made with new installments every so often. "Older" or past franchises are series of the past that still hold big market value and get "repackaged" now and then, and franchises of the future are series or properties now that will be big splashes in the future as they have just come onto the scene. Just for fun I also made a list of "prestigious franchises" where I listed them based on you mentally feel about the treatment of the franchise and the quality of the product over the long term. So without further ado, here are the rankings. Feel free to contribute your own as well.
