Yeah, I know. REALLY LATE.

Anyway, I'm pretty much clear on everything except...how exactly did the Major survive getting shot in the head?

As I recall (and my memory may be hazy), that wasn't her current body that got shot in the head. She had a spare one starting from episode 22 and the show went to a lot of trouble discussing her watch which wasn't on the body when it got shot. So the whole thing as a ruse so the Major could work without being pursued.

But how'd she end up floating around the net?

Or did I totally misinterpret what she and the "Laughing Man" (Aoi? I'm assuming that that was his name in the red beret) were talking about?

It was the remote control body that got shot. I'm sure she said it pretty clearly near the end at some point.

As for the internet thing...I suppose it took a little while to get back to her real body, after "inhabiting" her remote control body that got shot. I don't know about this though... I tend to think of the internet and hacking in this series as somewhat like using magic...so it's hard to understand :sd:

Well, in that case, hand in your Anime Fan Membership Card on your way out, when you 'log-off'. :P

Larry: But when you think about it, even if it was a momentary "trip" back to her body, it's pretty dangerous considering all the information on the internet (which is apparently divided into two big cities, if I'm understanding it correctly) that could get mixed up with her exposed consciousness (sp?)...

But, the Major found a somewhat nifty solution to maintaining individuality even after multiple synchronizations with data, thanks to the Tachikomas.

Anywho... yeah... that's my take on it.

Don't feel bad. I just finally finished the second season, 2nd Gig. I suggest you watch that asap. Better than season 1 by far.

Much. I'm looking forward to rewatching the series, but it's almost a pain to have to go through S1 again, since it's more all over the place with the plot and characters by comparison.

Can't wait for SSS. :neko:

Yeah, I borrowed the series from a friend, I'll be returning it tonight and picking up 2nd Gig.

So I've finished through the second disc of 2nd Gig, I find its episode classifications far more...obscure.

I'm not quite clear what seperates "dividual", "dual" and "individual" episodes.

Looking back on it...

I didn't really get that either.

Yeah, it's kind of confusing at first, but after a while it will become (somewhat) more apparent.

To some extent, there is less of a degree of separation between the Individual Eleven episodes and the "stand alone" ones. Not like in SAC, where the stand alone and complex episodes were more clearly separate from each other. There's a lot more "bleeding" through the line the separates the "dividual" and "individual" episodes. Some events in the "dividual" episodes will actually have an impact on the "individual" episodes story line.

Dissenting opinion: I found 2nd Gig sentimental, poorly plotted and generally less interesting than series 1. I also thought the animation quality slipped quite a bit, with the Major in particular looking noticeably different (and not in a good way) as the episodes cycled through different teams of animators. In more than one sequence it just looked like the animation director must have been drunk that day.

I always took it to be as a result of effectively psychic trauma. After all remote controlling a body provides all the sensory input as though you are physically present. This overrides your sense of actual self totally, much the same for ghost diving where you become totally immersed in the sensations your avatar is experiencing. So the shock of being shot caused the major to temporarily forget her real body and drift around the net for a bit as an avatar till she got a chance to fully integrate what happened.

If I remember correctly they kinda alude to this in the conversation with Aoi, noting that not many people could handle such an experience as what had happened to the Major.
