Hold up, I fail math and reading. It's actually over 40%, 41.5% actually. Extra win, and definitely the best deal you'll find on Geneon under normal circumstances.

You can thank all the people around here who kept on talking about Rozen Maiden. I ordered the first volume, with box, totally blind. I have a weakness for nice boxes, and the idea of a velveteen one is just too intriguing.

I decided to go ahead and order the already solicited volumes of F/SN and Ergo Proxy. And Karin. That's about it from Geneon that I want right now (I am not really sure about Higurashi--cute girls murdering each other is not really my thing :sd:

Why are people placing separate orders? Does the inclusion of items that are not Geneon DVDs during check out affect the eligibility of this Geneon sale? I read over the RightStuf website and this post a few times but couldn't find any information.

Say for example I wanted to order a single Bandai DVD along with a bunch of Geneon DVDs. Would I still get the discount on the Geneon DVDs? It would be nice to get everything in just one shipment (since it won't be that big anyway) and not be charged for shipping ($49+).

I'm not sure to which orders you're referring, but unlike the bounty and abundance sales, there's no restriction about combining eligible and ineligible items in a single order for studio sales. People sometimes make separate orders for in-stock and out-of-stock or preorder items in order to avoid having the former delayed by TRSI's partial shipment rules.


We will make a partial shipment if 50% of the unshipped products are available.
We will make a partial shipment if there have been no shipments made on the order within the last 45 days. This helps make sure that you'll receive preorders in a timely manner if they are several of them on the same order.
If $100 dollars of an order is in stock and available, those items will be shipped.

You can combine other items, including weekly specials and Bargain Bin items, with the sale items and still get the sale price. The only restriction is that you cannot combine different coupons. When people split their orders it is often because of different release dates.
I will be placing one order for a weekly special DVD and two Geneon DVDs that are already released.
I will order the Gatekeepers collection by itself because it will not be released until 4-17-07.
I will then make a third order for Karin volume 1 with box and Rozen Maiden volume 1 plus box which are both scheduled for release on 5-29-07.
Splitting the order like this helps to ensure that things will be shipped when they are available and not delayed.
Another reason for doing this is to save something for a later day in case I want a Daily Deal, which can just be added to the order.
Other people probably have more reasons for doing separate orders.

Heh, been waiting for a Geneon sale because that means I had to grab volumes 7 and 8 of Battle Athletes Victory, and volume 1 of Battle Athletes which weren't included in the bounty sale.
I should have done what you did. I wasn't sure I could count on a TRSI restock, so I ordered the 3 from DVDPacific at $10.06 each (including $0.59 shipping). Sale price now (with GA discount) is $8.76 each. Hmm. . . total difference $3.90? Well, I guess I did OK.

So, if you're buying a copy of a DVD from the "Used and New" section and the seller is "shawnek", you're buying from TRSI. I didn't realize this until a copy of Princess Nine Vol 6 I ordered off of Amazon was delivered in a TRSI box.

You didn't have to do all that. You could have just added the GA to your order, used 'newmember' as the code, and then if they discount didn't apply to the order when you got the confirmation email (which it likely wouldn't), you could just shoot them a response with a copy of the email asking them to apply it, and they could have done so easily.

But it sounds like your situation might become more complex now :sd:

Yes, the discount you see in the email is the discount you get.

I'd still recommend placing it on an order by itself, and giving it 1-2 business days to ship, before placing additional orders. It makes things a lot easier.

If you order the renewal on an order with other items, and they're backordered, and the order doesn't ship - and if you place other orders in the meantime, those other orders will not receive a discount. It'll be a manual process to clean up the discounts for you, and will probably involve having to contact CS about it. The GA membership doesn't apply to orders other than the one it was ordered on until it actually ships.

So, you can cancel, but you quite literally will not find a lower price elsewhere, outside of special liquidation sales and such, which are random and cannot be predicted like TRSI studio sales.

Also, base savings are 35% off msrp, not 33%. Since GA takes another 10% off *that* price, it's 41.5% savings. And TRSI sales have always been off retail. Also, with all you bought, your order would pay for the $12 cost of the GA membership in one fell swoop, and everything else you buy that was GA eligible for the next year would be pure savings.

So, it's your choice to cancel certainly, but take a second to actually do the math before making a spur of the moment decision.

I think the adverts often do, unless I'm remembering incorrectly. This one definitely didn't, no. I think the reasoning is that because it's possible to buy Geneon discs without using the coupon (if you're crazy), you can get them at the everyday 10% discount. Why anyone would, I don't know, but it's an option.

I guess it's not impossible though. Say you have a coupon you want to use (not the Geneon coupon) and it's actually more cost effective to use the non-Geneon coupon because you only need one Geneon disc or CD. In that case, 10% off is better than making it MSRP. Would this be a strange and exceptional case that isn't likely to happen? Yeah. But I'm guessing it's part of the rationale ::shrugs::

But yes, I of course agree that "off MSRP" should be on the ad plain as day, though even if it was many people still wouldn't notice =P

I never actually go to the gotanime.com site but the way I keep track of when I need to renew my membership is just look at my order database to find out when I last put in a renewal. It won't be absolutely accurate as it will likely be off by several weeks depending on whether there was time left on the old renewal or not.

Yeah it is confusing, and I do have the GA membership. Since my home address is in Canada sometimes its more worthwhile for me to buy from amazon.ca since I can get the DVDs for cheaper or the same price without customs hassles and all that jazz. Well, this sale has come and gone and I decided to not make any orders. I figured that by the next time this sale rolls around, there will be more solicitations of the series I'm interested in, and I'll actually have the money to spend on the singles.

When Shana volume 1 was solicited, Geneon wasn't on their string of LE cancellations though. The only other thing was volume 1 bundled with the OST. At this point, it's easier just to wait for a given sale to recur. The only upcoming limited item I'm looking at is Haruhi, and I've already got that covered.

I understand your reluctance to provide for delayed shipments. Some people would abuse such a policy as a means of creating layaways to avoid immediate payment. There are times when it would be worth prepayment to reserve merchandise for a limited period, however. It would enable people with suspended mail service to keep on buying! :sd:

That really depends if the Viz Video and Viz Manga portions are seperate. However, the last sale had both of them combined. In this case, it'll be at least another six months before we will see another one. However, I'll admit that the Dark Lord works in mysterious ways. :)

Yeah, it would be nice to know if we could keep our place in line with Haruhi and add in the Bandai sale discount, but I'd doubt it, I would have to belive that would be a nightmare for the CS team. In the end, not really worth the risk of losing one's place in line (IMO).

Bandai sales are usually 40% off going to 46 if you are a got anime member. That I know of in the past three years, it has never changed in that format. Also, the changing of prices of the preorders on the website to the usual 10% off kind of gives it away to being only a studio sale.

I really don't have anything to buy from Bandai except the second Gundam Wing Anime Collections, so there will have to be a very tempting item at the weekly specials for me to place an order. Although, I just might at the last day of the sale :sd: .

*There have been quite a lot of new items added from many studios. It seems like Geneon is finally rereleasing the El Hazard OVA for 14.99 per disc. I'll finally be able to start collecting this series. Now I just have wait for the next Geneon sale for this year :D .
