Anyone here who owns both and can recommend one over the other? As of right now I'm leaning towards Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! because I think the Japanese humor will resonate a little closer to home, and I'm also a quasi-fan of Morning Musume and L'Arc-en-Ciel to a lesser degree. On the other hand, Elite Beat Agents would save me a good $20...thoughts?

I honestly can't stand the vast majority of the songs in Elite Beat Angels (which makes me anti-American on most boards) so... Ouendan.

Personally, I didn't see anything terribly wrong with EBA. I can't say the song list is anywhere near good (and yet, it's not as bad as some people are pointing it out to be). Of course, this is as far as I can go, since I didn't play Ouendan...almost bought it at A-Kon last year, but the cheapness inside me said otherwise. :tired:

Personally, I prefer EBA. I think the difficulty is a bit more fairly balanced, and the fact that you can skip song intro makes a huge difference when replaying stages.

The cliche answer... both. You should aim to get both, as they are both worthy games. The song list may look shit in EBA, but in the heat of the game, you won't notice. However are extremely enjoyable.

Definitely Ouendan. And then skip EBA and buy Ouendan 2 when it comes out.

You won't have time to appreciate the humour in the game btw, as you'll be too busy actually playing the game to notice.

Well, that's what replay is for...though if you're addicted, I can't imagine really going back to watching the cutscenes. I don't know, I had fun playing and then watching the replay in EBA. :sd:

FWIW, the music on both versions are 95% covers and not the original songs. I believe only one song on the JP version is the original ("Melody" by 175R).

IMO, both versions have a few good songs, but most of them are pretty corny, but they usually work with the quirkiness of the game. And the gameplay rocks on both.

EBA:

* More songs

* Generally better interface (you can skip right to start of song, other aspects more polished)

Ouendan:

* Better songs (obviously this is a matter of opinion - also should be noted that the last song is better in EBA which is kind of important since you'll be playing it eighteen zillion times).

* Better voices (not 'acting', there isn't any, just that 'Osu!' sounds better than, uh, whatever it was in the US version).

Summary? Get both! And when you've done that, get Ouendan 2 which is supposed to be due this year :) Seriously, if you're limited for cash money reasons to one... I don't think it matters that much. The 'exotic' bonus of the Japanese version (i.e. crap pop songs sound less crap when you don't understand the words) might make you lean toward that, though.

This isn't true - you'll be able to appreciate the humour precisely because most of it occurs in the animated sequences during breaks.

However you'll certainly miss out (unless you do replay) on the silly animations that do take place during actual play... totally can't see those, they might as well have left the top screen blank :)

Thanks guys. I went with Ouendan, and I gotta say, the game is insanely addicting. I'll probably pick up Elite Beat Agents sometime down the line as well.

Yeah, I got stuck trying to beat that FMA song for a couple of hours last night. :sigh: Too bad you can't skip that lengthy intro.

Thanks to Ouendan and its four difficulty levels, I have now heard the intro to Ready Steady Go more times than any one man should have to in his lifetime.

Awesome game though :D
