View Full Version : Most ridiculous anime hairstyles

Every time I see one of the Solty Rei banners appear, I marvel at Solty's hairstyle.
This figure (http://www.figures.com/databases/action.cgi?setup_file=fignews2.setup&category=actionfigures&topic=248&show_article=25&nl=1) helps to showcase it. The way it's like... big strips of paper that stick up and then twirl down, with the extra random bits sticking straight out from her ears. It just leaps out at me as being really implausible.
It might possibly be the most ridiculous anime hairstyle I've seen. A friend suggested Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh, who is a strong contender.
What are other people's suggestions?

I would nominate high school era Mitsuki from Rumbling Hearts (Kiminozo) and Mizuki from Comic Party. In addition to their similar sounding names, they both have that impossible ponytail that defies both the law of gravity and all reasonable limits to the power of hairspray (let alone industrial strength adhesives or stabilizing substances).

This one's pretty good too. Looks like someone's ass.
What's the name of the blonde girl (the Council president's sister) from Mamoru ni Megami no Shukufuku wo? Her hair is full of bizarre spirals and gravity defying twists.
Also, who could forget Miss Spirals from Mai Otome?

I can't remember her name either, but it actually changes every episode. My favorite so far has been the hot springs episode, where she had the bull horns.

Yea, Solty wins this one. I can't even figure out how you'd do that with a talented stylist and a wig - you'd have to take some liberties just to get something even close.

Mariko, Sana's mother in Kodocha and her squirrel-tacular hair designs.

Yeah, her name is Shione, and she's definitely who comes to mind when I think of this thread. I liked how the one time she has her hair down in a normal way, it's totally shocking. :sd:

You can up that one by going with Binbou from Excel Saga, but I don't know if the original poster meant to include parodies.

"Man, Yugi. Your hair really is crazy. What's your secret?" "L'oreal. Because I'm worth it."
I remember the first time I saw Sailor Moon I thought Usagi's hairstyle was the most bizarre hairstyle I had ever seen. Nowadays her hair actually seems normal. My second place nomination would have to be Ryu from Shaman King. For some reason, he always reminds me of Elvis Presley. Third nomination would have to be Linna from the original Bubblegum Crisis just for how retro her hair is. And I can't forget Trowa from Gundam Wing. I still don't see how he can even walk without poking somebody's eye out with that hair.

There have been a few characters whose hair can move on its own and is used as weapon in some cases. Asuna from Negima?! is an example(just Negima?!, not the other versions).
Captain Impulse

Well I couldn't find a picture of him, but Bean Boy (Binbou) from Excel Saga (only in one episode) has a pompadour that extends about 20' out from his forehead. He can use it almost like another arm. It's awesome.

Shiho from My-HiME. Her hair looks like the arms of an octopus even though it was pointed out one time. Kind of strange how it moves around on it's own unless she can control it. :P

LOL, Solty's hair was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread, but I'll add Lahrri Feldnunt's name to the list (from Battle Athletes).
I can't seem to find a pic on-line, so I might take a screen cap late.

lol, Mitsuki's ponytail is nothing. For a REAL impossible ponytail, you need to look at Meiya Mitsurugi from the Kiminozo "sequel" MuvLuv

I saw a scan over at moe.imouto from that show that has a young browned haired girl with hair that looks like a boat. Really. Her hair scares me.

So, the "sequel" reinvents Mitsuki as a samurai girl? Not bad. Not bad at all.

No, completely different character.
She appears at the end of the Akane Maniax OVA. And is pretty much the female lead of MuvLuv.

A agree with Stellvia, especially Arisa's gravity defying hair piece... As for Solty's moving side pieces, this is nothing new as Mahoro Ando (from Mahoromatic) was doing this long before...
Now how many Anime characters can match the extra long blue pigtails of Sasami from Tenchi Muyo...

If her ears are long, green, and hairy, then I'm somehow even more disturbed than I was originally. I just figured it was bionic hair. They just left out the sound effects when it moved.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply she is Mitsuki, but there are certain similarities (the hair color, the hotness, the being good at something physical--which I take the sword to indicate). So, she's in some ways a successor to her, so I used the term "reinvent."
Haven't seen the Akane Maniax OVA (but I know of it).

That could theoretically be accomplished in real life with wire frames. I don't want to know how uncomfortable it would be though. Now if we get into the dynamics of motion on the other hand..... but then again this is anime. They're not obligated to obey physics for any particular reason.

Or, they racked and burned witches on it while she was still in her formative years.

Nope not at all. The winner has got to be Edel (http://web.archive.org/web/20040408113917/www.imagica.com/shop/tutu/chara/img/ch2_edel.gif) from Tutu. In NO image I've ever seen is there any indication that those side pieces are actually ATTATCHED.
Hands down it's Himoru, chairwoman of the Kisaragi school, from Princess Nine (picture) (http://www.animejump.com/modules/ProdReviews/images/princessninecomplete2.jpg) .
Mike Toole had a picture of her with beers in her hair like a koozie, but I can't find that pic.

I nominate Chako from Cosplay Complex.
I remember a comment from the creators that they wanted to see if cosplayers would be able to replicate her hairstyle.
It looks a bit like an eight-section pinwheel pinned to the back of her head. Sorry no pix. :sd:

I have not seen Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars, but from seeing pictues online there seems to be some (male, I guess) character with an afro parted in the middle with very long front-of-the-ears "hangy downs". The goggles he wears don't help with the look, either. Bleccch!

There have been a few characters whose hair can move on its own
As Kingmole pointed out - according to Osaka, Chiyo-chan's pigtails are fully detachable and also usable for flight propulsion (not to mention totally sentient and have a tendency to control Chiyo robotically :sd: )
But even in the first episode, we see Chiyo-chan's pigtails bouncing and making poing-poing sounds apparently of their own accord.
This is similar to what happens with Tenma's hair in School Rumble, which generally seems very much like Azumanga Daioh in its sense of humour.

I'm convinced that I have somewhere recently seen a picture of someone Cosplaying as Solty and realised that there are some characters that should never be cosplayed. I wish I could remember where I saw it now.
