I'm thinking of buying the Kindaichi Kosuke No Jikenbo r2 dvd's for people that have r2 japan dvd's in america is it worth it for series like kindaichi where there is a lot of thiking involed and words and not something like naruto or dbz where they just fight and you can mostly get the story?

Well, it's gonna vary from release to release. It'll depend on the materials used, if they were remastered, how competantly the DVD was authored, etc. R2 releases tend to have higher bitrates and less crammed discs, so high motion shows (like DragonBall, which you mentioned) benefit more.
Personally, I only buy Region 2 discs if there's a deficiency with the Region 1 releases. For instance, I bought the DragonBoxes because the Region 1 discs used less attractive masters and had disc authoring problems and NGE's movies because the Region 2's had remastered video and audio. Also, in both cases, I didn't care for the dubs.
See how the Region 1 stacks up against the Region 2 and if the difference in cost is justifiable. I don't know the series you're referring to myself, but a good deal of shows get nice Region 1 releases too. See what others think.

I usually buy R2s where either I have a translation in some form already, or a particular seiyuu is in a show & its not been licensed, or is OOP.

If you don't know Japanese / have English scripts / have seen the show in some form already, I'd say no.
