View Full Version : New mystery title from Production I.G : "Ghost Hound"
Well, it seems like Production I.G has another new title in the works labeled as Ghost Hound (http://www.wowow.co.jp/anime/ghosthound/). The main area of interest for some will be staff from Serial Experiments Lain(I can't read Japanese and it's a picture not text). I read something a while back about Oshii wanting to work on a new title, but this doesn't seem like his kind of thing.

Ryutaro Nakamura (*村 隆太郎) is definitely involved - he directed both Lain and Kino's Journey. Chiaki Konaka (小* 千*), who wrote Lain, is also in on it.
I'm assuming they are the roles of director and writer, respectively? (My Japanese = not so hot
:sd: )

Production IG's 20th anniversary project, apparently.
Same director as Lain and Kino's Journey -- Nakamura Ryutaro.
Script by Konaka Chiaki.
Character design by Oka Mariko (Jigoku Shoujo)
Production idea by Masamune Shirow.
It's a staff list, so I assume that they'd list the director and such. Andrew will probably know whats up since I either step on his feet with posts about new shows or he comes up with the translation :)

Holy crap..
Man is this going to be one hell of a show

Someone beat me to half the info this time!
No cast announced yet.
While we're at it, does anyone know some more info on Kenji Kamiyama's new production?
...
Yeah, vaguely saw it over at Anime News Service...
Wait, do we have an official thread for it?
(as I don't actually remember what it was called)

Seirei no Moribito.
Was there an official thread?

Now that you have title, you can search for it yourself!
No, there doesn't seem to be one.
Anyway, more focus on this...
Uhhh...
Yeah, I guess I'll check this out... enjoyed Kino's Journey, though... Lain... not so much, to be honest (as Texhnolyze and NieA are pretty much my favorites when it comes to shows that have used ABe's character desgin... thingies).

You could get through Technolyze and not Lain?
I read the Kino books before I saw the anime, and thought the anime softened things considerably. Didn't really care for it.
I'm sure there was a thread for Seirei no Moribito -- maybe under Guardian of the Sacred Spirit?
But it may have been on the old forum. That trailer's been up for a long time.
Time to start a new one?
What really helped Texhnolyze was its production values and the atmosphere came across better as a result.
Well, that and I was also pretty fond of how much more grounded in reality Texhnolyze was (for the most part); while the whole "you can't quite tell where we are" thing in Lain might've been cool to most people, I couldn't get into it mainly because of how it was done...
...
But then, maybe I need to watch again? (not possible though considering that I don't own it anymore).

I dunno, I watched like five episodes of Technolyze and nothing happened.

A manga has just started running in Comic Blade (officially seinen but tends to target both male and female audiences as its more of an "otaku" anthology; features stories as diverse as Aria, Peacemaker Kurogane and Otogijushi Akazukin) called Ghost Hound Another or something like that which is about school kids with special powers; man, that's specific.
I presume the Konaka/Nakamura pairing will mean the anime is deliberately badly written then :) All joking aside, I like Chiaki Konaka's stuff when it's a bit more reined in but Texhnolyze was dull as ditchwater and Lain falls to pieces quite frequently (although it does patch itself together again almost as often). Konaka's single episode scripts are much tighter in shows like RahXephon and Tutu.

I really enjoyed Lain, but also found myself unable to get into Texhnolyze at all - I tried the first 3 discs, and found myself nodding off or napping during each one of them (that rarely every happens, unless I'm already tired in the first place).
The concept was somewhat interesting, but (from what I saw) absolutely nothing entertaining was done with it.
It seems like they've tried to set up a top-notch production staff/creative team, so hopefully it turns out really well.

(~*Starts Drooling*~) Could they have picked a better combo!? I am SOOO STOKED!

This definitely sounds like a quality production. I am going to have to check this out. Any news on an airdate?

Not that I can see. The site just became live yesterday. I assume you'll see a flurry of news on it soon as it's their 20th anniversary project. I wouldn't expect to see this until the Fall or Winter seasons of this year or possibly even next year.

Hmm, Shirow is involved... what is a "production idea"?
When I saw the title, I thought it might be related to his "Galhound" and "Hellhound" work, but from the art on the page, this does not seem to be the case.
So does anyone have any more info on the manga running in Comic Blade?
I find i cannot summon as much enthusiasm for just a list of names. :sd:

Wow, Nakamura, Konaka, Shirow, designer from Jigoku Shojo (how the hell is this not licensed yet?!), I.G. Sounds like it'll be a top tier title, definitely something to keep an eye on.
And maybe they didn't want Oshii on the project because they knew the show would then have to be called "Ghost Basset Hound". :P
I want to see a Basset hound mecha myself..
This is one of those titles where you know someone is helping pump money into it and since it's their 20th anniversary project, they'll make sure it gets licensed. The great thing now is that anyone can get it as Geneon picked up a upcoming Production I.G show.
Just a little update that apparently this is going to be a Fall airing show, so we don't have that long to wait to see whats it's like.

That was my first thought (http://home.comcast.net/~b.langenb/ghosthound.png) also.
You know as Oshii starts to loose it in old age, we'll definetley see a basset hound based series. There was an interview with him where he is a really strong animal rights guy saying that he believes animal cruelty should be punishable by death(obviously he doesn't mean killing someone, but you get the picture if you hurt something like a poor little kitty). With that said I wonder if Oshii's basset hound has become sort of an in joke around Production I.G

Ghost Hound official website. (http://www.wowow.co.jp/anime/ghosthound/)
Details are pretty much impossible to come by at this point, but the staff sounds promising: Ryutaro Nakamura (Serial Experiments Lain, Kino's Journey), scriptwriter Chiaki Konada (Serial Experiments Lain, Big O), and character designer Mariko Oka (Jing: King of Bandits). Not to mention it's going to be animated by Production I.G., which is generally a very good thing.
No word as to what it's about yet, but it doesn't appear to be tied to any of Shirow's previous franchises as far as I can tell.
Usually Andrew is doing this to me but hey, pssssst..
