The easy choice for me is Ayu and Kanon. The power of Uguu is strong and only Kanon can truly utilize the power. The power of Gao is nice, but it is not as compelling.

While one cannot ever underestimate the power ogf Uguu~, the cuteness that is Gao cannot be denied either. Uguu~ is a vocabulary and language in and of itself and I'm almost sure it can cure cancer as well. On the other hand, I doubt even Scrouge could stand up to the cuteness of the Gao.

Still my preference is Kanon.

My favorite girl would probably be Kaori. And to an extent her sister Shiori. Although, that's probably the dirty thoughts flittering in my head. Mai is a close second, but Kaori is the total package. She is all that and a bottle of jam.

What I think we really need is an Air 2007. They need to give Air the Kanon 2006 treatment and really expand things out and explain it more. Air was nice and tight, but it really could have used more episodes and taken things a bit slower and more indepth.

I would have liked Air better if it didn't feel like they were trying to shove the other girls to the side as soon as possible. While Kanon still has its main focus it did feel a bit more balanced story wise. Granted I'll concede a long version of the story of Air may fix that problem, but still.. Maybe I'm just bitter because I was more fond of Michiru and Minagi.

Air wasn't really about the girls for me, but about the story, and Kanon was vice-versa.

Misuzu and a pity vote for AIR. :sd: Am I the only one who thinks that AIR's fast pacing was as much a strength for it as slower pacing ended up being for Kanon? The two approaches both have their benefits.

Well, I didn't want to be too biased towards the other girls if they didn't happen to have an unintelligible catchphrase.

Plus, I think some of the girls do have a catchphrase but it would actually be a sentence perhaps (i.e. Shiori's "I hate people who say that"). That might take me longer to figure out and whether I should also write it in Japanese.

Since I can't modify the other polls, here's a quick one that focuses on unintelligible sounds. :)

Well, I went with Nayuki for my favorite. After that, it would be Misuzu, Shiori, Kannabi no Mikoto and Ayu fighting it out.

As for which cast is better... that's not even fair in my eyes, at least based off the anime (haven't played the games). Air is much, much more "about Misuzu" than Kanon is "about [anyone]". Misuzu plays much more central a role in Air than even Ayu does in Kanon. So as far as the whole cast goes, Kanon wins hands down. Air's cast is hardly bad, but they're just not quite as focused on. This is also, of course, largely because Kanon is twice as long. :sd:

As much as I love GAO, I had to go with the one, the only... uguu~. Uguu~ is just so epic and powerful that I dare not stand in its way. There can be no imitations. Uguu~ is life.

Air needed so, so much more Kanna. I'm very glad we got Air in Summer, but I could absolutely go for at least a 13 episode Kanna-epoch arc.

Of course we already know how it all ends, which could be a bit of a downer... but I want it anyway!

But as a group, the girls of Kanon are superior to the trio quartet of AIR.

And if I really wanted a girl for myself, I would want Mai. For the power of bunny ears is superior to all.

As much as I love Gao, what might be best, and not impossibly seen as a retread, would be a complete 13 or, hell, 24 episode retelling of the Summer Arc, in detail, with backstory and everything. There's not enough good anime set in historical times. This would be a chance for KyoAni to show they could do the Heian period as well or better than Production IG.

Well, let's see. I'm a bit of an anomaly, I guess, as I didn't vote "straight Kanon" - Nayuki is my favorite character from the two and Kanon my favorite show but "Gao" is my favorite catchphrase! :P

Kanon, even though I've only seen part of Air, I just can't see it eclipsing Kanon. Though the scene with Makoto, Nayuki and Ayu in their cameo appearance is much funnier now I've seen Kanon :D .

And I concur on the power of Uuguu. But Makoto got my tear ducts working for the first time in years, so it's a tie between Uguu and Auu for mine (since Ayu's story did the same later).

And now, I must see if I can dig up somewhere that (a) has the Last Regrets single in stock and (b) will ship outside Japan. Alas, none of CDJapan's distributors handle Key's music and none of the online retailers I've seen with it in stock will ship it outside Japan :(

While neither site lists it, you might try sending an email to Jungle (Osaka) or Himeya, both of which carry Key Sounds Label releases and do ship outside of Japan. The price won't be as nice as Amazon Japan or CD Japan, but if you really have to have it, I don't know of too many other ways to get it.

Thanks for the tip, much appreciated :D . I've emailed both stores asking about the disc - and found a compilation CD of piano arrangements from both Air and Kanon 2002 in the process.

In the beginning there was the word and the word was Uguu. Most of them are equally cute, but what puts it over the top for me was the hilarious ways Yuuichi made fun of it or imitated it.

How did that go in one of the early episodes....? When he quips Uguu back at her and Ayu goes "Ah, you copied me again!" then he gets right in her face and says UGUUUUUUU with that sour look. I laughed so hard I could barely breathe. :)

Sure, no problem. Unfortunately, Himeya doesn't have the best prices, but they are reliable and they will ship outside of Japan, so when I have no other choice, I've been willing to pay a little extra and go with them.

Having just watched Air, the power of gao/nyhaha beat uguu, but just barely. Something about Misuzu's pathetic little "nyhaha"s tipped the balance for me. Haven't picked a favorite cast, and I'm too emotionally drained to rewatch and compare. Nyahaha~
