Air TV was always a bit confusing to me. :sd:

I probably need to rewatch the last part a bit more. I tend to watch the first half mostly.

But, my little brother-in-law is obsessed with the little boy and girl building the sand castle at the end of episode 12 and the little boy's ominous prophecy.

What is their role?

Are they suppose to be reincarnations of Ryƫya and Kanna?
Was that the moment the curse passed on to poor Mizusu?

I tried Wikipedia but seemingly it is pretty bare in contrast to the Kanon page.

I never understood the kids myself. The only one that could be linked to Ryuya and Kanna is the boy. It's impossible for the little girl to be the reincarnation of Kanna because Kanna is still alive up in the sky. At the same time, it's also impossible for her to be the reincarnation of Kanna's soul because that was Misuzu.

Now, as for the boy, the only possibility is the reincarnation of Ryuya. Yes, I know that there are theories where Sora is the reincarnation of Ryuya, but it's Yukito. It HAS to be Yukito. Why? Because Sora wasn't there the first go-around. He only appeared after Yukito prolonged Misuzu's life. Yukito simply took an alternate form in order to allow himself to become Misuzu's friend and break the curse.

Or at least that's the way I see it.

Spoilerish stuff below. Read at your own risk. I claim no responsibility for the accuracy of anything here. :)

Bear in mind this only deals with the Anime and not the Movie. Nor have I read anything else about the show so this is my thoughts alone. In other words, my interpretation of what was trying to be said.

I see it similar to Splitter, but a bit differently. I see the boy not as a strict reincarnation of Ryuya, but more of a rebirth of part of his soul. The part that loved Kanna. The girl is the same, but a partial rebirth of Kanna's soul.

I believe this goes back a bit to Shinto beliefs. At least I think it's Shinto beliefs, it and Buddhaism were so intertwined when I was growing up that it all got muddled up into a general belief structure when I learned it all. But I digress. In any event, they believe that when you die your soul moves on. However, a part of that soul can remain behind. It isnt so much a splitting as perhaps a cloning. But a part can remain.

Yukito's sacrafice does not break the curse I think. I'm not entirely certain it can be broken completely. However, his sacrafice allows Misuzu to live on long enough to break a small part of it. Yukito is reborn as Sora and time moves back to their meeting on the beach. This is episode 10. Only this time, in addition to Sora being there, those kids are there too. Because now they have the opportunity to exist. They sort of appear there because now time is slightly different.

The greater part of Kanna and Yukito's souls will continue on. Over time they will continue to meet and share the same fates. But, there is the possibility each time that their sacrafices will free a bit more of Kanna's soul. I think that is what the boy is getting at. They now exist because part of the curse has been broken. But since it continues so will their tragedies through time.

The sad thing is, I see this in my head relatively clearly but I cant really explain it that well. I do know I remember reading a fairly similar story growing up. I just cant remember what it is right now.

Anyway, those are my ramblings. Maybe I can make it make more sense later...

from the tv-version...

The little girl is presumably the Kanna-reincarnation without the curse. Misuzu seems to be the last of cursed reincarnations.

As for the little boy, it's a little inconsistent. He is presumably another Kanna-protector. Can't really say he's another direct descendant from the Ryuuya/Uraha-line since that died out with Yukito.
