Holy crap. I haven't finished the original series yet (I'm only on episode 34 or so), but I'm really excited about this. :virgin:

I'm pleased to see that they've stuck closely to the original designs and some of Dezaki's visual conceits, while giving it a much more fluid look. The deep backgrounds especially help it feel more alive.

:D I wonder if they'll be able to fit the Black Rose Arc into a feature-length film.

Black Rose Arc? did you confused Rose of Versailles with Revolutionary Girl Utena?

I wonder if Ikuhara is even directing anymore. This remake sure reminds me more of Utena than the original did.

Indubitably. Incessantly. Invariably. Inevitably.

Cool. Thing is, imo the main problem with the original wasn't the animation (sure it was old/lacking, but the art design made up for it) but the story, which was also a bit old-fashioned. (No 'well it's from 200 years ago' gags, please.) I wonder if that'll fare better this time around? Still, it's an interesting prospect.

I'm really excited about this, though it will be interesting to see what differences there will be compared to the original. I'm not update about this remake of Rose of Versailies, but is this a movie or tv series?

Now, if the same were done to Candy Candy, I'd die a happy man. :neko:

I'm pretty sure it's a movie.

I wonder if this makes it over to R1-land, will that mean there is still a glimmer of hope to get the series over as well?

Either way I'm interested, as I've yet to see Rose of Versailles in any form.

Indubitably. Incessantly. Invariably. Inevitably.

Not at all. The Black Rose Arc in Rose of Versailles refers to the middle portion of the series dealing with Jeanne Valois, who
defrauded a Cardinal and stole a diamond necklace.

An alternate version of the story of Jeanne Valois and Marie Antoinette is told in The Affair of the Necklace (http://imdb.com/title/tt0242252/), starring Hilary Swank as Jeanne. :D Rosalie also appears, but no Lady Oscar.

Oh... sorry. Here I thought some Extended Cycle shenanigans were in play. :sd: Every post is about Utena; non-Utena posts are about Utena in their non-Utenaness. :P

That preview looks great. I hadn't heard much about the remake recently, and was wondering what was going on. It seems to be on track. I'm really excited, since Rose of Versailles is one of my favorite anime.

Oh the nostalgia. :virgin:
I remember watching the original TV show 20 years ago when I was a little kid. It's nice to see a new incarnation of it. Unfortunately, it will be constantly compared to the original and will be judged a bit harshly by nostalgic folks like yours truly.

For me i won't compare it with the original show, yet i would expect it to be at the same level in overall. Meaning if the original was an A show then i want this one too be within the same level. I surly won't settle for an average C one that uses the name for milking more money or so. That's my overview for remakes in overall.

1 thing about remakes is that i surly wouldn't mind having any of the original seiyuu back for them. But since the cast for the new ROS movie is a very good one then i don't have to worry about that :)

... I think I need to watch the original right away. This looks very good, and I know the series comes highly recommended--it's one of those that I keep meaning to watch but haven't yet. Either way, I'll certainly want to see this when it comes out. :neko:
