This is probably a stupid question but here it is...

Is the PSP region free? I really don't care if UMDs are region blocked because I won't be buying those.

Yes the PSP is region free when it comes to games. UMD videos are NOT region free.

Cool. Thanks. I am considering buying one. Especially seeing as I have a nice hefty tax return coming. :D

Get ready for some nice load times if you get the psp. I love the graphics and all but sometimes the load times are killer. It's made me stay away from games like Spectral Souls although I may still buy it if it becomes cheap enough. On the other hand, I saw a review that said Puzzle Quest was better on the PSP than on the DS and for that reason I may get the PSP version if I decide to pick that game up. ;)

Load times don't really bother me too much. I'm fairly patient.

If the load times don't bother you (I don't think they're that bad. Maybe its the games I have?) and there are enough games to warrent a purchase for you, then there's no reason not to buy one.

UMD movies are dead, anyway.

I really don't mind the load times myself. Usually they are no longer than what you'd see on your average PS2 game. But I have run across some long ones. Rapala Trophies comes to mind. I love the game to death (it features Lake Minnetonka where I grew up fishing) but it takes nearly 3 minutes to get to playing the game from boot up! Graphics and gameplay do kick ass in the game though.

I just wanted to mention it since I didn't know about it when I first got it. Turns out the first game I played, the load times really took the enjoyment out of the game. I doubt that would have made the difference though had I known about it since I got a really good deal around Christmas. :) Of course my bf is like... why are you getting a psp? ;)

Yeah, the PSP is truly a test of exactly how patient someone can be with loading times. It's... absolutely atrocious in some cases.

Indeed it is. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hjf0D6bRTQ8)
Smackdown vs. RAW is a good example of patience.

Comparing that and Gripshift. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYyDkwIZbTA)
Okay, well it's an example of how well some games load...even if the game isn't all that great.

Though I have to wonder exactly what the problem is. Is it the system, or the laziness of the developers? I ask because Tales of Eternia had absolutely no loading times whatsoever in the entirety of the game.

Hm... that's interesting. I guess it's just dependent on how often the console has to access the disc. I just know it was killer for me because it would load everytime I entered another zone. Unfortunately it didn't take long to go through a zone sometimes.

It's probably a little bit of both. I would think that it depends on how much it is taxing the system, but I think that would only drain the battery quicker.

Smackdown vs. RAW has always been known for its terrible loading times, and this just proves it all the more. :sd: It would be nice if they would give us a friggin' option to disable entrances altogether; it's a pain in the ass to have to constantly hit start to skip each entrance...then have to sit through yet another loading screen to load the god-forsaken match! :tired:

Looks like you won't have to spend as much money to pick up the PSP. The core price of the PSP will be going down to 169.99 tomorrow (4/3). :)

That would happen right after I finally broke down and bought one a few weeks ago.

Well, it wouldn't of made any difference. When I was going to pick one up at the original posting I was going to buy a Japanese PSP from PlayAsia, which would have cost me the same price.

I'm still waffling back and forth. I think it doesn't help any that some of the games I want aren't out yet.

Don't you hate when that happens? You buy something and the next thing you know, the price goes down.

At least it's only $30, I got a PS2 and Xbox right before they dropped, and that was $100 each. :sd:
