Airheads & bubblebrains

Anime is populated by its share of airheads, bubblebrains, ditzes or whatever you want to call the type.

Who are the best & funniest, worst & most infuriating, or just plain cutest? Can any beat Mihoshi in Tenchi or Usagi in Sailor Moon?

I instantly, instantly though of Nomura "Tomo" Tomoko from GTO. Such a sweet girl yet totally clueless. She does love radishes though..

Osaka is probably queen of all airheads.

She doesn't get much airtime, but I like the slow... talking... nurse... girl... in... Galaxy... Fraulein... ... Yuna.

unmentioned names that come to mind immediatly are:
Tohru Honda (Fruits Basket)
Yurika Misumaru (Nadesico)
Michelle (R.O.D. the TV)

and one for manga readers:

Pandora (Because I'm The Goddess)

Padudu and Mustard (I think - whichever one had the pigtails) from Magical Play are good ones too.

Both of them are more naive and clueless at times than airheaded, but they each have their head in the clouds more often than not.

Tsukamoto Tenma from School Rumble is an uber airhead.

Yet Tomoko can often see right through to Onizuka's intentions, when everyone else is freaking out.

I notice in many anime a lot of "dumb" characters have a clarity of thought many of the other cast members lack. I guess when you don't have a lot to think about, you see things more clearly.

My favorite airhead is Miharu of Girls Bravo. She is cute, sweet, funny, totally clueless, and totally hot.

Hakufu Sonsaku of Ikki Tousen is close, but she is second because she is not as cute and sweet as Miharu.

Osaka is third because she does not have booby bombs. :>

I don't know if I'd quite label Shiori as a bubblehead...shoot, Yuna's pretty much a bubblehead if you have some Polylina merchandise handy.

One of my favorite bubbleheads not mentioned yet is Makie from Negima. Well, her and Milfeulle from Galaxy Angel. Okay, I'm a little fond of Rino Rando from Best Student Council...although I think it's more about Pucchan than it is about her.

Then you have oblivious people like Belldandy and Mutsumi (Love Hina)...not quite the same kind of bubblehead, but the world kind of passes them by. I think I'd put Ayaka (Negima) in that same category, especially when it comes to Negi.

My favorite is Gourry from Slayers. He even dressed up as Usagi/Sailor Moon once! :D

Although people may not think of her because she's a genius, Full Metal Panic!'s Captain Testarossa often shows like qualities when she's off duty, especially in Fumoffu!

As for people that are true bubblebrains, I just found Kurumi of the Steel Angel variety to be precious. She was always just plain oblivious to anything that didn't interest her. :D

I just remembered a couple more, this time from Princess Nine: Nene (the manager) and Yoko (the wannabe idol).

Nene is the extremely bubbly type, and Yoko seems to obsess about everything except the team.


I need to watch Princess Nine again. It's been probably a couple years now since I've watched it last, and it's such a great series.

Photon Earth, to me is on the same level as Osaka, yet speak even less.

God think of offspring if those two were to reproduce with each other. I think it could very well rip a hole in the very fabric of reality.

I've also got to vote for Mihoshi and Kurumi. They're so cute in their airheadedness. I also like Mitoko (sp?) from Tenchi GXP. I think she's related to Mihoshi, but I haven't watched much of the series yet. I just finished disc three last night.

I guess you could say Chi from Chobits is also airheaded, but she's so damn cute!

My all-time favorite: Akari Kanzaki from Battle Athletes Victory. Sure we discover she has a little more going on upstairs than we originally think, but she will always be my all-time favorite Airhead :D

Sae Sawanoguchi is the best, as always. :D She's so adorable with it, and I don't really think it's ever an overbearing issue in her regard with it.

Usagi has always been a fun character for me, and same for Mihoshi. With Mihoshi, I think past the original two OVA's, though, they overplayed it too much. It worked very well in Magical Project S, at least.

Tenma was cute enough at first, but after a while, it gets really bothersome. Maybe I just feel sorry for Harima, though. :sd:

Well if we're gonna be useing PPD we can't forget to include Ichijo-san. That girl has got issues. And as i was watching the first volume of PPD i was thinking Himeko seemed more like the Tomo type

I also favor Osaka in this sort of "competition" but there are people who will probably hate me for saying I think that way about Sakaki sometimes too. But I love Sakaki... :sd:

Michele from ROD TV??? I have trouble with that one, but there is just something definitely 'out there' about that girl. What about Yomiko Readman though?

Ed from Bebop is more in the 'oblivious' category, but damn does she do it well. :cool:
