Super Paper Mario for the Wii has been out a couple weeks now, so I thought it would be appropriate to start its own thread.
I'm on level 4-2 and I'm still not sure what I think. While the game is on, I'm having fun playing through the levels, but once it's off I forget about it.
What I like
The vibrant primary color palette.
The self-referential humor and how the game doesn't take itself seriously.
Not just a straightforward platformer, I really enjoy the puzzle solving and that Zelda kind of feeling.
Good variety of levels, from traditional 2D side scroller to space shumping.
What I don't like
The RPG elements don't quite come together.
Too many puzzles can be solved easily by pushing the A button and going 3D.
The first boss battle against the dragon was awesome, but after that they have been quite boring.
I often get the feeling that I'm just going through the motions.
The store items stay quite plain, and the coins feel pointless. I can only buy tokens and play the mini-games so much.
So halfway through the game I'm 50/50. There's no doubt I'm having fun, but I find myself shrugging my shoulders on occasion as well.

I haven't had a whole lot of time to play it, but the game isn't something of a classic but it is definitely fun for the most part. It is not really an RPG, more of a story book. Some of the gameplay has been boring (running in a hamster wheel for a length of time was a bad idea) other ideas have been interesting (I love going 3D).
Overall, it is not a bad game, but it just falls short of a must have title

The hamster wheel seemed like an attempt to poke humor at inane game tasks, but it failed miserably. I just got annoyed. :sd:
Run for a minute . . 1439
Run for another 2 minutes . . 4298
Run for . . OH FOR CHRISTSAKES, GIMME THE DAMN RUPEES!!!!! KILL BUTTON ENGAGE!

I received the game last Friday and finished it early Monday, about three days playing. While I did not like much of the humor of this game, here is one humorous scene (from Chapter 3-4) that I find very funny:
The scene between the charmeleon nerd Francis and Princess Peach is funny, as it pokes funny on the Japanese dating-sim convention. It also pokes fun on the anime otaku, and mentions the term "anime" several times!
Since I finished the game and the essentials, I wonder whether the 100 "Sammer Guy" tournament, the Flopside "Pit of 100 Terrors," collecting all 256 cards, etc. are worth it? After fighting about 37 rounds in the tournament, I begin to lose interest in it. What is the point of fighting a hundred vassels (of various sizes, weaponry, and skill) one after another? That is why I got bored of the repetitious nature of the tournament and returned my party to Flipside using a warp pipe.

So far so good, I beat Chapter 3-4 this afternoon and I've been having a good time!
I agree with the repetitive nature of some of the challenges; however, I this the good outweighs the bad.
Kudos to Nintendo for making a fun game that allows you to go through the world in 2D, 3D, and flashlight (the sprite)
Time to get to Chapter 4

I've already beaten the game. I thought it was quite fun but definitely not perfect. The battles weren't terribly difficult.
Really, nothing left for me to do in the game except some side-quest stuff and the Flopside Cave of Trials.

I found the game pretty fun. Sure it's not the greatest, but fun none the less. I still think it's a must for Wii owners, especially since not much else is coming out at the moment.
I've beaten the game and cleared both pits (the flopside one you have to do twice :sigh:) as well as the 100 Sammer guy part. I'm not sure I want to acquire all of the cards, but the completetionist in me beckons...

I'm currently having a lot of fun with it, when I actually get the time to play. Right now I'm at the beginning of Chapter 2-2.
