I've heard good things about Hyougemono and Danchi Tomoo.

Ooku would be a great choice. I've never heard about the others though, so I couldn't say if it's better than those or not.

The premise (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=7919) sounds really interesting. A manga about a matriarchal society. Hmm.

Maihime (http://www.callenreese.com/maihime.html) is about a ballet dancer.

Koukoku no Shugosha (http://www.tsunamichannel.com/index.php?date=2006-06-09) looks good. Battles, dragons, and tigers, oh my! :D
