So why is it that most endings in anime are either to understated or to over dramatic? Eureka being SOLIDLY in the latter camp? It would have been ok but having hearts come out of the drive and the big heart on the moon...eh just a way bit to much. Built up to it so nicely as well...sigh. The final transformation of Nirvash and the way he was controling it toward the end was cool I will give it that.
So are we supposed to assume that Renton became a coroliean...think that was what it was about but not 100% sure (yes I know you are never 100% sure about the ending of good anime)
What did every one else think?

Simply put, Renton became one with Eureka. And since the normal way of proving love, body and soul, to one another, isn't something that can be shown on a kids' show, we get Nirvash making sure in every epic way that the world knew a Coralian and a human became one.
Or that's my theory... damm it was cool watching Nirvash engrave their names on the moon.
Oh, and I really like the ending. I didn't think it was overdramatic at all, but more like a culmination of Renton's and Eureka's feelings.

hmm I think the love could have been shown in a more natural way as it had been done before just my opinon though I see how the world needed to see that a human and a coralian fell in love for there to be any hope later however. Does anyone know if the manga goes past this point or does it also end on the somewhat depressing note the show ended on?

It marked the coming of the "second summer of love" (and made more sense than the old "Cha" up there). You've got to admit that combining a mecha series and a surf movie is a bit out there in the first place.
