I think the parties interested in a HD remaster of Brain Powerd could be counted on one hand. ^__^

Dear Bandai Visual,

Please go back in time and remaster Escaflowne instead.

Regards,
Philip Reuben

P.S. An exception will granted if you announce HD remastered Escaflowne soon.

Yeah, no kidding. I don't know why BV thought this would sell very well... Maybe Tomino had them do it for whatever reason and BV didn't want to piss him off...

And for me, if it's remastered in HD, it's GOING to have an HD-DVD/BD release at some point... why spend money on the DVD version when you can just wait? Most die hard fans of a show probably already have a DVD version of it, so why not just wait?

Though with Brain Powered... yeah... I agree with counting the fans wanting a remaster on one hand...

Never assume that a title which is unpopular in the U.S., is also unpopular in Japan.

Brain Powered seems to have its fans in Japan - particularly among those who follow Gundam and Yoshiyuki Tomino.

I'm sure its has its fans because there are people who masturbate to anything Tomino makes. Nonetheless, the show is virtually held to be bad. Real bad. I've never heard a single positive thing said about Brain Powerd, even among the Japanese fandom.

Eh, a lot of shows I love are blasted by US fans. I think this one got shittted on a lot though due to Evangelion fanboys being mad about Tomino's certain comments. I haven't seen it myself yet, but it's on my list of stuff I eventually want to see.

My understanding was that mid-nineties Sunrise series' such as Bebop and Escaflowne couldn't be remastered due to the use of low-res CGI and editing in the composite realm.

But wait, doesn't BP have plenty of CGI as well? I'm curious if this really does mean that all of Sunrise's titles could be remastered down the road.

That sounds like a load of crock to me. Plenty of shows from the same timeframe have been remastered already and even if the scenes with fuzzy CGI posed a problem, surely everything else could be improved.

Brain Powered was made just two years later than Escaflowne, and the same year as Cowboy Bebop. I'd expect that the technology used to make them all was largely the same, especially if (as you say) Brain Powered has CG in it as well.

I guess the question we have to ask is why wasn't the 5.1 boxset for Bebop released a few years back not given new component transfers, let alone a HD re-master.

Also, does anybody know if that Crest of the Stars boxset released a couple of years ago was remastered?

Because Cowboy Bebop isn't a respected classic like Brain Powered :P

Well, the obvious reason would be that it was released early enough and that Cowboy Bebop is popular enough to warrant another re-release before the HD formats take over. Why do everything at once and sell the people one box, when you can do incremental upgrades and sell them two...

Of course it could have something to do with the CGI, that it was poorly composited/edited from different sources and such, but that doesn't mean it's "unremasterable", just that it would take a bit longer to stitch together.

Also, does anybody know if that Crest of the Stars boxset released a couple of years ago was remastered?
I'm fairly sure it was the same old discs (or at least the same old transfers.)

Now why the hell would they choose this? Just because they could? :sd:

And I accept that fandom in one part of the world is not indicative of fandom in another part of the world, since to think otherwise is silly, but how many Japanese fans of Brain Powerd could there really be? I mean, aside from those who kind of fell into it as die-hard Tomino fans in general?

Meh. It's funny to me more than anything else. Excellent news for fans of the show, of course. I figure I got a good laugh out of seeing this news bit, which already is more valuable than anything I got out of actually watching the series.

LOL, I think I'm going to go order this show right now. With this much complaining, I'm sure there is something to it. I love my Tomino.

I noticed most of the shows that the Japanese don't like that are huge in America, I tend to agree with the Japanese. lol

If you want to burn away 30,000 yen and the most boring 13 hours of your life, by all means preorder it.

I'm guessing he meant the [pre-remaster] R1s, which still wouldn't be worth it. Well, maybe for the opening if he likes fanservice.

Well, I will be ordering the Bandai USA box. Good deal, especially since I can get well below the list price. I have absolutely loved shows people have despised, and the only thing by Tomino I didn't like was Garzey's Wing. I'm sure I will have a blast. :P

Well, enjoy. But you`ll soon have two Tomino shows you don`t like. And price is not an issue, either free is too much to pay for Brain Powerd because your mind will be raped with unimaginable boredom for half a day.

I have some other stuff to watch first, but I'll make sure to reply back to this thread after I have about how much I enjoyed it. lol

In Japan, that's enough. According to figures I've seen cited on 2ch, when you compare sales of anime by director, Tomino comes in second only to Miyazaki. A distant second in comparison, but second nonetheless.

Taking a look at ANN`s recent figures, Tomino is #1 for Bandai Visual based solely on the strength of the Mobile Suit Gundam metaseries, which has sold 11.9 million units in Japan since the 80s. The next highest would be Oshii Mamoru, thanks to Patlabor and Ghost in the Shell.

I don't think it's QUITE as bad as Thanatos is saying, but it's definitely boring and not all that great.

If you're a die hard Tomino fan, then you'll probably get kicks out of it, but as a show with real appeal to all but a select few, it fails.
